OHKUBO Atsushi

Atsushi Ōkubo ( 大久保篤), also romanized as Atsushi Ohkubo, is a Japanese manga author and fantasy artist known for his work on the manga series Soul Eater, which has been adapted into an anime. Okubo worked as an assistant under Rando Ayamine, on the manga series Get Backers. He also created artwork for various cards for the Lord of Vermillion game.

Atsushi Ōkubo was not a model student and was more attracted to drawing than to learning. At the age of 20, after finishing studies at a manga school where he met Rando Ayamine, the author of Get Backers, he became Rando Ayamine's assistant for two years. Finally, he won a competition at Square Enix's Gangan magazine with his first manga series B.Ichi and it was published for four volumes. After the end of his last manga, he created Soul Eater, still for Square Enix's Gangan magazine, which brought him worldwide success.

Me encanta Benimaru. Sigue sumando puntos y más si es un líder nato que solo se sale por la tangente y hace cosas no convencionales para salvar a su gente.

Por otro lado, que extraño (?) no sé si soy yo o qué pero Tamaki no estorbó con su presencia sexualizada y notablemente mejoró la historia sin perder páginas en fanservice.

Holy shit this had some of the coolest fights in the series so far.

Beni is going head to head with Shinra's captain until finally he comes to his senses that there's something going on. But before we can relax and figure it out the sniper from previous arc is back and shooting at our people. Shinra blast off to try to stop him and learns a bit more about what and who he is while you get Beni's background with his friend and why he is so powerful and why he acts the way he does.

This volume is filled with great fight scenes, some emotional bits I didn't expect, way less fan service (Thank god) and story progression. We now have our companies teaming up, we have a main enemy, we have new power sets, and so on. This is shaping up to be great series if it keeps up.

This volume was essentially one long fight. The town is in chaos because of evil guys have powers tricking the townsfolk and the Fire Force. The reason for the confusion is cliched. But the fights are interesting.

Despite the chaos the plot advances and we learn something new about Shinra’s powers and link to his brother and the White Cloaks / the Evangelist so that was good. Station 7 & 8 are now great friends and fully trust each other while I’m still not sure why the two weird groups don’t trust each other in the first place.

Still a good read even with my nitpicking.

I read this book via Kindle Unlimited.

I am going to say this with my whole chest. I love Beni. We've briefly met Beni before in Volume 4 when all the captains of the Fire Force are called together to discuss the situation at hand and we learn he's a solemn but stern character who has no love for the Sun God or the Government. When Company 8 go into Asakusa to ask for his help, they aren't welcome but then when the knights of the Evangelist set a trap, it's soon Beni vs. Obi as the two captains go head to head following a misunderstanding. In their distraction, chaos breaks out across the town as Infernals are created and even a demon appears. This volume has a lot more heart in it than previous volumes. We learn so much about our main characters and side characters I hope we will be seeing more of, and learn about their motivations and backgrounds more. I loved the action in this volume, it featured some of the best fights we've had so far in this series and I enjoyed the quirkiness of Asakusa.

More fighting and trying to find the cause of the infernals but very little progress is ever made. It just seems to be continual fighting, which is fine, but the story is not moving very fast. No new information is really learned in this one but there is a lot of action.

I love the 7th force arc, and now I owned this volume. I love Benimaru as a character and a captain, he can be reckless sometimes, but knowing that he cares for his people, just make me all fuzzy in the inside, and he just couldn't stop smiling after drinking sake is another adorable trait of his. Hope to see him more in the future.

El mejor tomo hasta ahora. Gran personaje Benimaru, muy bien planteado el arco de Asakusa y termina con un cliffhanger interesante. El dibujo de Ohkubo como siempre on point, haciendo simple lo simple, y cuando hay una escena importante dibujarla con todos los detalles y poses muy cool.

The art and Benimaru’s introduction were great. I appreciate the minimal use of unnecessary fan service in this volume. That just proves to me that shōnen manga can have an intricate plot without showing half naked women.

Wow this keeps getter better and better. You can really feel the same kind of care and charm of Ohkubo’s Soul Eater here and I love it. This volume has the most fights in the series so far, and the conclusion to Fire Company 7 storyline has a nice feel good ending. However the actual end to this volume has me curious as it leads to a surprise appearance. There are a lot of different characters now with some interesting backstories and motivations that I’m excited to see play out.

I think this one was even better than the previous volume. The assault on Asakusa starts and the members of both 8th and 7th fight against these people from a mysterious organization. Shinra and Arthur shine in this volume but the legend himself, Benimaru, is definitely the star of this book. We get to see Akatsuki and Benimaru's true power. The fight scenes were brilliant and I really like where the story is going. The whole plot around the White-Clad is really smart in my opinion. Though the first couple of volumes have certain problems, it progressively gets better. I really liked this one!

Summary:

Fire has always been a thing of nightmares for many. In this world, people are at risk of spontaneously combusting and turning into Infernals. An Infernal wants only one thing - to destroy. They are no longer considered human. That is where the Fire Force comes into play. It's their duty to protect the people.

Company 8 is working hard to understand the truth of what is happening here. They know the infernal situation is worse than it looks – they need to understand who is behind it all (and why). Unfortunately, their desperation to understand the situation is about to lead them into a trap.

Review:

Yikes. Things are heating up (sorry, I couldn't resist). Fire Force Vol. 6 finds a way to up the ante in an already lethal situation. In truth, a lot of this volume felt like it was setting up for something even bigger, which is frankly terrifying.

It also has one of the better fights for the series (so far), which I feel is saying something. It was so much fun to see Shinra step up and let loose for the first time. I feel like we've always known he was a badass, but seeing it is something else.

Also, this volume was so busy with the main plot advancing (and the fights) that it had no time for fan service. So that made for a refreshing change. I know it'll probably come back in full force soon, but I'll take the break while I can.

Overall, I loved the progression in Fire Force Vol. 6. I can't wait to get my hands on the next volume (off to the library!).

Este volumen de Enen no Shouboutai empezó con lo que prometía ser una pelea épica entre comandantes… pero no, nos cortaron el hype de golpe. Konro interviene por el Octavo y todo se resuelve hablando, aunque al menos así descubrimos que hay muchas inconsistencias sobre esa supuesta confesión que Beni escuchó: varios testigos afirman que Ôbi y Hinawa estaban en otro sitio cuando supuestamente admitieron haber creado a un Infernal. Vemos también el origen de la enfermedad gris de Konro y el sentimiento de culpa que arrastra Benimaru desde entonces.

Mientras tanto, la ciudad empieza a desordenarse. Beni se va por su cuenta a investigar y el Octavo hace lo mismo, topándose con Hika y Hina, las gemelas, en plena pelea porque cada una asegura que la otra es falsa. Y en una escena tan ridícula como divertida, Arthur le da una paliza a una de ellas porque “parece un viejo”, mientras todos lo golpean a él por pegarle a una niña. Pero, sorpresa: la cara de la supuesta niña empieza a cambiar, y resulta ser un impostor. Así se revela la raíz del caos que está consumiendo Asakusa: los encapuchados están infiltrando gente falsa por todos lados.

Los impostores se multiplican, la ciudad entra en desorden, y por si fuera poco: Infernales por todas partes. Shinra y Arthur se enfrentan a unos encapuchados, y uno de ellos se transforma en un demonio al tragarse un insecto. Beni, que no es ningún tonto, usa el caos para exponer a los impostores y de paso se enfrenta al demonio, que resulta ser igual al que destruyó su ciudad y enfermó a Konro… y también al que Shinra vio hace 12 años en su casa. Así que la cosa se pone personal.

La pelea de Beni es visualmente preciosa, tanto en manga como en anime. Todo culmina con una alianza entre el Séptimo y el Octavo firmada con sake (al estilo japonés, por supuesto).

¿Y el final? Nos deja con la llegada de un nuevo miembro al Octavo: Víctor Licht. Y ojito, que ya lo habíamos visto de forma sospechosa al lado del Joker. Además, se presenta un concepto nuevo: el Adora Link, aunque aún no tenemos ni idea de qué es exactamente… pero suena importante.

Wer allgemein etwas zu Reihe wissen will, der sollte meine Review zu Band 1 lesen.
Es geht hier um Feuerwehrsoldaten die gegen Feuerwesen kämpfen. Wie diese entstehen, weiß man mittlerweile an diesem Punkt der Reihe, aber ich möchte es nicht spoilern. Ich finde den ganzen Weltaufbau genial. Die verschiedenen Sondereinheiten, die sich nicht wirklich grün sind, die Feuerwesen, der große unbekannte/mysteriöse Bösewicht im Hintergrund. Das alles ist richtig gut umgesetzt und halt mal was innovatives. Dieser 6. Band handelt eigentlich von einem großen Kampf. Theoretisch beginnt der Manga genau da, wo der fünfte Band geendet hat – mit dem Kampf zwischen Obi und Benimaru. Doch schnell entwickelt sich das zu einem großen Kampf im ganzen Viertel und mit den weißen Kapuzen. Daher war der Band unheimlich Actionlastig und Shinra wächst wieder über sich hinaus. Es gibt wieder einige Anspielungen, die einen neugierig auf die große Auflösung dann am Ende der Reihe machen. Mir hat der Teil richtig gut gefallen, weil auf jeder Seite etwas los war und auch wieder Freundschaften und Beziehungen im allgemeinen eine große Rolle spielten.
Die Charaktere sind richtig interessant und haben Tiefe. Witzig ist die Freundschaft zwischen Shinra und Arthur, die sich ständig gegenseitig necken und dann aber doch zusammenarbeiten.
Den Zeichenstil liebe ich total. Ich mag diesen etwas comichaften Stil und finde die Charaktere sehr ausdrucksstark.
Ich freue mich schon auf den nächsten Band.

Le combat entre Obi et Benimaru est stoppé par Konro qui veut que la Huitième Brigade puisse s'expliquer. Konro utilise ses pouvoirs mais sa grisaille l'affaiblit, il doit être alité. Il raconte à Shinra comment s'est formée la Septième brigade et pourquoi son lien avec Benimaru est si fort. Il dit qu'il pourrait mourir pour son capitaine. Shinra lui rétorque qu'il n'aura qu'à l'appeler s'il est en danger.

Dans le même temps, des conflits naissent dans tout le quartier, tout le monde accuse quelqu'un de quelque chose et les accusés clament leur innocence. La Huitième brigade et Konro se rendent compte que des imposteurs se sont infiltrés à Asakusa. De plus, des hommes en blanc sont également présents et un archer tire sur Shinra. Arthur et lui tentent de le débusquer. Ils affrontent en duo l'archer et un autre homme en blanc. Ce dernier, voyant qu'ils n'arrivent pas à battre les deux pompiers, se transforme de lui-même en torche humaine. Il devient un démon.

Benimaru (à la demande de Konro) prend le leadership et calme tout le monde. Voyant le démon (lui rappelant l'adversaire qu'avait dû affronter Konro pendant le combat qui lui a coûté la santé), il va l'affronter. Au même moment, l'archer dit à Shinra qu'il détient l'adora link (sûrement un lien avec l'adora burst).

Benimaru affronte le démon. Shinra (appelé au secours par Konro) le sauve d'une flèche tirée en traitre. Benimaru tue le démon. Le reste des hommes en blanc battent en retraite.

La Septième et la Huitème Brigade se lient grâce à une coupe de saké.

The white hoods assault on Asakusa both reached new heights and concluded in this volume. Largely it was as epic and explosive as I hoped and while it never did reach the heights of the previous boss fight, it still had its moments. Highlights were Shinra and Arthur displaying some form of teamwork which really highlighted how they could potentially be perfect partners for one another assuming they get on the same page more often. Additionally, Benimaru proved just how much of an epic beast he was with his hi ougi displayed courtesy of Konro. And finally seeing Shinra’s brother get annoyed over having his lackeys fail yet again was great.

Overall, this was a fantastic volume that focused on the action and comedy in a way that made it stand out from the rest. Silly moments of fan service of the more less clothed variety seemed decreased too and not present in a way to distract from the pacing as has been seen before so that was a plus as well.

For threads that continue the story as a whole, the devil’s footprints think going on along with the Adolla burst and flame is compelling and really keeps me on my toes hoping to see where this goes. Seeing Shinra use it in a way to actually alter someone elses flame was cool and that ghastly scene where his legs and feet looked demonic was out of this world and rad. Wow. Amazing.

Another excellent manga (volume) from Atsushi Ohkubo. The squad, except for Iris, went to Asakusa. Plotwise so many great things happened and I was very happy to get a deeper introduction to the city of Asakusa, and its deeply rooted culture. Not much more to mention, but something I am missing in his work is that there's a constant "putting characters on the background to let other's shine" pattern. And this is bothering me. You don't have to give every single character something really damn important to do all the time, but I feel like he tells them:

"Okay, this volume, why don't #1 and #7 water some plants and become important again in about 4 issues, yes? Ok! Cu then!"

But when there's action and importance, I feel like the world, the plot, the dialogue and relationships are very good. Therefore, I was thinking about giving it a 4,5 * but Ohkubo must do with a 4* until I lose my mind and become a dickrider.

This volume contains chapters 43 - 51. The artwork is wonderful and easily conveys emotions and movement. Since I previously watched the anime, there have been no surprises so far.

The mysteries and secrets are still hiding the source of the evil and greed. The 8th, and now new allies from other Brigades, are starting to gather to figure out the truth behind Flame People.

Arthur continues to make me laugh! I especially like Benimaru and the characters from the 7th Brigade.

Volume 7 will reveal more about Shinra's little brother (Sho) and the newest member of the 8th Brigade, Victor Licht.

Ahh.. Captain Beni has jumped to the top of my favorite characters! Company 7 is pretty hilarious - I have to wonder what Konro was like before his injury, since Beni was using “his” move, and he took out a demon singlehandedly after being exhausted. It’s interesting that their whole town is a throwback to very traditional Japanese culture - their fighting spirit was awesome.

I don’t like where it’s going with the younger brother being one of the psycho fanatics. And this Adolla link...Since Shinra could hear Konro, is it something like godhood?

While 8th brigade investigates in 7th brigade's area, white hood organization appear and bring havoc. Brigades 8 and 7 join forces to stop them.
We got teased more about Adolla Burst and Adolla Link. Still no idea what those are and what they have to do with anything what is happening. Learned more about Benimaru and Konro. I didnt like Benimaru much at first, now he seemed more likeable.
Ended the volume with new member of 8th brigade? I guess we will be sure in the next volume.

In this book, our heroes investigate company 7 and have to deal with a bunch of baddies who can take on the face of someone else, plus a devil appears, backstory about Beni, and a few more hints about Shinra’s true nature.

Action is exciting. Cool powers and some decent character building. Not so much fan service. A good volume.

No fan service in this one so it gets five stars. Benimaru is definitely my favorite character, I don’t know if I’ve ever seen the strongest character in the series be as insecure as him and I find that part of his writing very compelling. I love everything about his character most of all his attitude and the way his company behaves.

This series has yet to disappoint me! I love it so much!! Definitely top tier in my opinion. Obi ❤️❤️ Shinra ❤️❤️ Beni ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ ugh the characters are the best! The entire plot for this manga series is amazing and I’m really excited to keep reading further and see how it all pans out.

That fight was super cool. I loved seeing Shinra and Arthur in action. Super cool to see Benimaru in action as well, his powers are so cool. I will say it again, I love how each person has a personal style with fire that fits for them. It's cool to see the unique style on each person.
