David Edward Carter was an American businessman and writer on graphic design, logo design, and corporate branding. He wrote many books on trademark and logo design and won a number of regional Emmys for his local television productions. After moving to Sanibel Island, Carter had teamed with Pfeifer Realty Group owner Eric Pfeifer to make several historical documentaries about Sanibel Island, including Sanibel Before the Causeway and Postcards and Pictures from Sanibel.
A few creative designs found in this text, and some not so much. I'm glad to see various examples from different industries and institutions, although I wondered why some design layouts were considered for inclusion.
Even though I purchased this book a couple years after initial publication, there were examples I thought were very outdated. For what it's worth, The Big Book of Layouts can still be used as a reference book on good as well as bad design.
Mostly outdated (more outdated than the publication date would lead to believe). There are a few interesting examples but I'd recommend The New Big Book Of Layouts before this one.
