Or is their vision of a perfect holiday doomed? Do you Believe? - The winter solstice is an important holiday to various human cultures and to the Fey. Neeearly made it through the whole series but just couldn’t push through. Notable in the sexy faerie romance genre for having polyandry and because the author became more interested in implied sex scenes between the two husbands than much else. Main character usual zero personal or physical flaws and annoyingly passive. Eye rolling at the romantic relationships where disagreements are only ever about keeping one safe became literally painful about two books in. Exacerbated by characters being so struck by the protagonists personality void they are inexplicably drawn and fall permanently in love by day 3. Wasted potential in creating character depth by marrying up her love triangle too early. Plus side, here is a novel of the genre encompassing more than CIS but don’t expect any titillating scenes in this regard.
This entry is particularly notable among the series as the protagonist manages to reverse age by having her 38th birthday several books after she was first introduced as 39.
Given the lack of mention of this as one of the protagonists predictably amazingly powerful and rare magical talents, feels a lot like the author got as bored with her as her husbands and I did so just forgot her age, opting to stick with keeping her under 40 (the use by date by date for female protagonists in fantasy novels). I honestly think she was only allowed to commit the crime of being in her late thirties at all because she ages slowly and looks in her twenties.
Like heaven forfend any protagonist commit the crime of having crows feet, no marriage, no children and enjoying it.
Missed opportunity to write about women in their forties becoming new mothers, living in non traditional relationships and share houses.
This is a great series and it was a treat to read this three story anthology, which gives us a glimpse into how the characters celebrate "human" traditions. In this case, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Winter Solstice. My favorite was the third story (I cried) and I was happy to see Ciaran make another appearance. I have a tendency to gravitate toward minor characters and always enjoy learning a bit more about them.
