I seriously don’t think I will ever get sick of the Riley Paige books. She is such an excellent character. I love how smart she is and how she is able to really get into the killers mind and think like they think...I love that every book we get a little more into not only Riley but Bill, April, Walder, and even Gabriela and the other secondary characters that pop in and out of the series. I also like that you don’t really necessarily have to read in order. I mean I’ve read 1,2, 5, 9, 10 and 11 and now 4. The way that Pierce is able to put this thought into these cases and into the murderers is really amazing. I feel like we get to see a more raw Riley with this one. I mean we see her really struggle with PTSD from the Peterson things and we get to see how it really effects her. I feel like April is annoying, she is always throwing tantrums then running away. Will she ever learn? Think about what happened with Peterson why would she even do that or event think about hitchhiking again. Granted I have read book 5 so the cliffhanger wasn’t much of a surprise for me but still…..
I really enjoy the Riley Paige series. There are a few things that kind of bring it down - 1) I do not like when the main character has people "out to get them" or make them look bad... one of my pet peeves... and Riley has a superior agent who is "out to get her" 2) some of her actions are a bit "over the top" ... and you just know that no one would really do something like that But the stories are interesting and entertaining
So this author is really good at writing and telling a great mystery/thriller but she gets into these ruts and they are kind of annoying. In the Kate Wise series she is older and came out of retirement at 55 years old. Her boss in the FBI would put her on a case then remove her when the case didn't get solved in 24 to 48 hours (ridiculous amount of time). The time needs to be realistic for one but in each book except one book out of 7 this boss took Kate off the case and she would go behind the bosses back and continue to work the case. It was so annoying and predictable. You knew he was going to give it to her and a day later he would take her off the case and she would not go home and work it anyway.
In this book the same thing is happening in that she is getting into a rut. The MC is a FBI agent Riley Paige. Her boss and she clash and he will take her badge and gun and suspend her from the case. This is book 4 and this has happened in each book except book 1. Riley does go home but ends up getting angry and going back to the state the case is in and starts working it on her own OR she will show up and make her boss very mad and he threatens to have her fired BUT she solves the case and ends up with her badge and gun back. In real life if a direct order was ignored like this agent is doing then they would be fired. The End! None of this great job for not following orders here's your gun and your badge back. There are 17 books in this Riley Paige series and I hope this isn't going to happen in each one of these books.
The story and the mystery is amazing. She write such a great story I just wish she wouldn't get so hung up on this urge to have the MC removed only to not follow orders and everything turns out great. Just leave the agent on the case already
I have done a lot of moaning and groaning but other then that one thing I would truly recommend this series to everyone. She is really great at writing mystery books
Just nope. First and second books, I thought the character development might be spread out evenly over all the books in the series, but in this fourth book, it's still so severly lacking. The same themes and sentences keep being repeated, without any development. Too bad!
4...Seriously, how can so many bad things happen to one mother and daughter??? And why can I NOT put these novels down??? I shouldn't be this into such dramatics...and Riley's Lone Ranger crap is getting old...but here I am...jumping into the next one...Great case btw!
I listened to the audio book and was really annoyed by the English accents when the book takes place in the U.S. I know the book is fiction, but c’mon...
A killer is holding women hostage, starving and lashing them until he snaps their necks and poses the body. FBI agent Riley Paige is on the hunt.
Agent Lucy Vargas is back in this book. Readers don't see much of her but I see her potential as a dedicated agent. The prisoner from Sing Sing plays another recurring role. How does he know so much about Riley and the outside world?
I thought Riley's problems with her daughter April were over but not so. I also thought the problems with partner Bill were done. Silly me. I don't think Riley's character is advancing very much. The book ends on a cliffhanger.
I do like the stories however I’m only in book 4, and they are very similar. She’s always getting suspended with the threat of being fired, there’s something always wrong with the daughter, and the ending is always basically the same. I hope they are not all like this.
Have really enjoyed this series of ebooks, The relationships & main characters have continued in this book in series. There are brief references to previous cases FBI agent Riley has been involved in. However a new set of tragedies are being introduced, with requests for her to join into the investigation. She is still having disturbing flashbacks from sick perpetrators she's encountered in her past. Knowing how she is. She will try to put all that aside and come to the aid of her long time partner Bill. ** Now let the hunt begin!!
Well in no time the drama unfolded. Mystery set to draw you into the next Riley Paige saga if you so dare.
I LOVE the Riley Paige Mystery Series! Each book is so creative. I am especially fond of books with serial killers...I know I'm weird lol! Each book in this series has a serial killer...score! What I like most about this series is that the stories are original. I can definitely say I've never read about the type of serial killers he writes about. Very creative!
I also LOVE Special Agent Riley Paige! I love books with a strong female special agent character. She isn't afraid to stand up for her victims and do what she believes is the best to save them! She will risk her badge to do what's right.
Riley struggles with trying to be a mother & also be an FBI agent. Each book in the series shows the struggles she & April face. Riley battles this each day..wondering if she is doing the right things for April. I'm looking forward to reading more about their relationship.
The main plot in this book just didn’t do it for me. The subplot helped, and I’m hoping that book number 5 reels me back in. Some vague spoilers ahead: I fully expected the cliffhanger at the end. Maybe it’s my obsession with true crime but I suspected very early on in the descriptions and behavior of this character that this is where the plot was heading. I’m curious to see how this is resolved in book 5. The serial killer that Riley (and the reader) are searching for through the whole book is caught and prevented from further murders so quickly at the end and it felt like a big portion of the narrative focused on the immature conflict within the team and the FBI. The pacing was off for me, and a bulk of the back and forth felt like filler material to make the book longer.

After the last book in this series I was hoping it would pick up more, but I had trouble keeping a bit of my interest. Generally it's a okay book, but the main character going on and on about her past and not moving on is hard to overcome. She seemed to be tougher in the other books. I'm going to see if the next book picks up more.
Emotional angst aside, this book was better than the others. The "cowboy save the world" Riley is still there, but at least this time she doesn't endanger anyone with her reckless actions. And could Riley really be critical of Bill's angry outbursts, when that is all she ever does? And somebody needs to give April and her temper tantrums a good spanking.
While the story was good over-all, i did get annoyed with Agent Riley Paige and the hypocritical ways of her and her partner Bill. She berates him for jumping to conclusions and roughing up a suspect, then she turns around and does the very same thing to another. While I'm on the subject of brutality, why do all of the perpetrators end up dying at the hands of Agent Paige?

I will never look at clocks the same way again. Blake is so good at keeping your attention. By going around about from home life to the case and even into the killers head. Each time I finish one of her books I say ok take a break and read some one else I find the next book and I’m invested again. So on to book 5.
After 4 books in the series, i have to admit, i keep seeing the same pattern over and over. The stories feel unoriginal, like they are cheap rip offs from the cop shows on TV. The characters are uninspiring and shallow. The first two books were good but now, by the fourth, it's become too predictable.
I like Blake Pierce books, they're shorter than a regular novel but pretty interesting. The writing itself could use some work and there are a few typos but they're still entertaining.
I liked that I took some time before reading this one. It is a little bit of the same stories each time, but also a little different. I like how to characters grow.
Time is something that is so intricately wound into our lives that we cannot escape it. From the moment we are born, we are counting down to something. Our next birthday. The next holiday. Going to school. Driving. Graduating. Drinking. Getting married. Having kids. And then starting all over with the next generation and their countdowns, too. Normally we are counting down to joyous occasions that we are happy and excited about. When someone takes that time-honored (no pun intended) tradition and twists it into something deadly and horrifying, people are shocked to their cores.
For Riley Paige, time is something so precious. Time with her daughter, time required for her job. And knowing when it is time to do one or the other is a constant struggle. But because this is something she knows so intimately, she has insights even beyond her amazing skills as an FBI agent. Doubly frustrating for her, then, when she is told to leave the case and go home. Leaving behind junior agents who don't know what they're dealing with, and a head honcho who is so far wrong he'd have to be struck by lightning to see the light.
Perhaps this is a blessing in disguise, though, because Riley knows that she is desperately needed at home, too. Ultimately, the reader knows that Riley must resolve the one before turning her full attention to the other. Because a mind divided, just like a house, will fail.
I loved this read. It was so hard-hitting and evocative. There was, however, a cliffhanger at the end of the story which I did not appreciate. I'm just not a fan of cliffhangers. If you're coming into a series with multiple books out, as I am with this series, then it's not so bad. You can dive right into the next book and pick up without missing a beat. However, we're not all able to do that. We may not be able to find the next book, or afford the next book. In some cases, the next book may not even be out yet. And then the reader is left unresolved and frustrated, and that's just mean.
So while I really love this series, this one has to get three stars.
ONCE LURED is book #4 in the bestselling Riley Paige mystery series, which begins with the #1 bestseller ONCE GONE.
