Melvin “Wolf” Lobo is returning to his beloved bayou to face Old Ben, the ghost who hungers for his blood. Wolf fled the bayou to escape Ben, but now, having defeated one ghost aboard the nuclear submarine USS John Hancock, Wolf is confident he can do it again. What he doesn’t know, but will soon find out, is that there are things more dangerous in the Louisiana swamps than a malignant spirit.
"Foley's WOLF'S TALE is a classic ghost story and a rollicking adventure. New Orleans is so well drawn it leaps off the page, becoming as much a character as anyone else, living or otherwise. Terrifying and loads of fun!"" – Nate Kenyon, author of BLOODSTONE, THE REACH, and DAY A NOVEL
There are certain very specific things that will attract me to a novel; location is one of them. To me, New Orleans is a place of magic, a place where the supernatural might just exist. Thus it is a location that itself has suspended my disbelief. You can well imagine that having read INTRUDER, I was more than ready for Wolf to go home. Wolf is a man of two worlds. He is a military veteran that has interacted with others from all over the country. Military service is a mind broadening experience on many levels. He is also the product of his upbringing on the Louisiana bayou where the strange and unexpected seem to be part of daily life.
Dan Foley has integrated the flavor of both the bayou and New Orleans into the real and the supernatural in a way that makes for a seamless read. The characters are well developed and each has his or her own voice. No paper dolls here.
WOLF'S TALE is an atmospheric tale that will make you shiver, and it will also leave you wanting to read more stories about Melvin "Wolf" Lobo, his Grandmere and the mysterious Mose.
When a book hits all your buttons, like this one hit mine, rating and reviewing it can be difficult. It's as if this book was a 5-Star read after only a paragraph or two. Upon completion, I fully acknowledge that Dan Foley took some of my favorite literary tropes and made them his. His writing is distinct and unique and gives new life to the old tropes.
I received a copy of Wolf's Tale from the author for review.
A cool horror tale with really well-built characters and setting! I don't normally read horror but I really liked Foley's writing and Wolf's story. There were some twists and turns I wasn't expecting!
