Martina Slajerova is a health and food blogger living in the United Kingdom. She holds a degree in economics and worked in auditing, but has always been passionate about nutrition and healthy living. Martina loves food, science, photography, and creating new recipes. She is a firm believer in low-carb living and regular exercise. As a science geek, she bases her views on valid research and has firsthand experience of what it means to be on a low-carb diet. Both are reflected on her blog, in her KetoDiet apps, and in this book.
The KetoDiet is an ongoing project she started with her partner in 2012 and includes 6 cookbooks, and the KetoDiet apps for the iPad and iPhone. When creating recipes, she doesn’t focus on just the carb content: you won’t find any processed foods, unhealthy vegetable oils, or artificial sweeteners in her recipes. This book and the KetoDiet apps are for people who follow a healthy low-carb lifestyle. Martina’s mission is to help you reach your goals, whether it’s your dream weight or simply eating healthy food.
Interesting recipes and most of them looked pretty appetizing. Not sure I'll make anything from it but liked the information about a keto diet and the stating of some staples that might make it easier for a beginner.
This would be a good book for someone who chooses to eat keto, has the time and inclination to cook, the money to purchase ingredients that are not run-of-the-mill, and has these ingredients available. I do choose to eat keto as much as possible, and this book had a good introduction to the keto diet, and some tips on how to cook, eat, and store foods that fit the keto diet.
I was hoping to find some simple recipes, but these were just too much for someone who doesn't have time to cook or money to procure ingredients that are not readily available in my small-town, rural area.
So thumbs up on the book; it just wasn't helpful in my situation.
The book for review is “Keto in 30 minutes” edited by Jen Fisch.
What do you know about Keto? It seems to be the rage lately with celebrities and every day people talking about how it has changed their lives.
Part one has two sections. The first goes into what Keto is. One gets a nice summary of it. The second section you how to prepare or restructure your kitchen prior to going into the recipes. This includes cleaning out your pantry, going shopping, must have appliances just for starters.
Part two of this book is when you get into the recipes. You get 100 of these. These ranges from bread, sauces, dressings and so forth which you will use as part of some of the recipes to come. And as other cookbooks do you go from breakfast, soup and salads, lunch and dinner, snacks, side dishes, and drinks and desserts.
I also have wondered what was up with Keto. This book gave me some good information and amazing recipes to try out for myself. What I liked was at the end it had advice for going out to eat. The recipes are easy to follow and the pictures are beautifully done. This was a well laid out cookbook.
I received this book for free from the Callisto Publishing Club but the opinions are my own.
while I’m impressed this book does Have diverse recipe selection vs. generic American meals, it still falls short on providing simple recipes. Also,I noticed a few recipes Would have me hitting 3 Grocery stores. Not cool when your book is geared towards having a time restraint within your meaIs. I don’t think many meals can be done in 30. And all I do is cook with a family of 5! Least not dinner meals. Also, There wasn’t much to suit my taste buds and I LOVE pretty every type of food, I’ll give a few a try. But the dessert section was a full pass as was breakfast.
There's a lot of basic, newbie stuff here. I mainly was interested in the recipes. Initially, I wasn't that thrilled with the offerings, but towards the middle & back I started finding recipes that looked easy & tasty, especially with modifications like buying already shredded cabbage & stuff.
I've yet to find a cookbook that I love, but this one provided some new ideas & options, so it served its purpose satisfactorily enough
I've heard Keto is great for PCOS and I'm excited to try these recipes. The pictures make everything look so appetizing and they are well-written with easy to understand directions.
The recipes look good and fairly easy to make. I appreciate that most of the recipes have pictures of the finished item. The information at the beginning of the book is helpful for those of us considering giving keto a try.
Very disappointed in this book... For someone who has been trying Keto style, this was by far the worst cookbook I've seen.... Some of the food pictures looked way less than appetizing...
Also there were NO alternatives...it was either the author's way or the highway
Awesome book - I've already tried 2 of the recipes and both turned out delicious. Not too complicated, these recipes have just enough delicious stuff that you will want to eat them but not with the crazy, impossible-to-find ingredients that some health cookbooks have.
Great introduction to Keto for the busy person. I’m going to embark on this journey in 2018. These recipes make me believe I can do this and not have my family suffer.
Sara brought home. I'm looking for ways to get more vegetables in my diet, especially in the long winter. I am not currently trying to go full keto so of only some value.
The problem with keto recipes is that they often involve ingredients that I don't have and are expensive. There are decent recipes but Pinterest is cheaper.
