About the author

Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani is one of the leading Islamic scholars living today. He is an expert in the fields of Islamic Jurisprudence, Economics, Hadith and Tasawwuf. Born in Deoband in 1362H(1943 CE), he graduated par excellence form Dars e Nizami at Darul Uloom, Karachi, Pakistan. Then he specialized in Islamic Jurisprudence under the guidance of his eminent father, Mufti Muhammad Shafi, the late Grand Mufti of Pakistan. Since then, he has been teaching hadith and Fiqh at the Darul-Uloom, Karachi. He authored many books in Urdu, Arabic and English language.

One of the things I loved about this book was the human side of it. . You can tell how much he loved his teachers and benefitted from their character. Mufti sahb writes anecdotes shared with him by his father Mufti Shafi رحمه الله as well as his own interactions with them. Not only were they intellectuals and scholars but along with that they embodied humility, honour, compassion etc.

Some incidents of the Shaykhs of Mufti Shafi Usmani. The book is filled with gems.

While someone is reading a book which is going to benefit one with information, it needs to be read with utter concentration to comprehend the knowledge. And when someone is reading a book which is going to benefit one with spirituality, it also has to be read with utter concentration in order to get the full taste.

Alhamdulillah, khatam satu lagi buku yang bertajuk The Great Scholars of the Deoband Islamic Seminary (Ulama-ulama hebat Dar al-Ulum Deoband/Akābir-i Deoband Kyā Thay) yang ditulis oleh Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani.

Mufti Taqi Usmani menulis buku ini berdasarkan daripada kisah-kisah yang diceritakan oleh ayahnya, Mufti Muhammad Shafi' Usmani yang mana ayahnya menceritakan tentang guru-guru beliau.

Buku ini bukanlah menceritakan tentang karamah pelik-pelik, tetapi menceritakan tentang keadaan ulama-ulama Deoband. Pandangan mereka terhadap sesuatu isu, akhlak mereka ketika berkhilaf, kisah dakwah mereka, perjalanan mereka menuntut ilmu dan sebagainya.

Saya memang dah lama ingin membaca tentang ulama-ulama India. Dulu saya pernah baca tentang ulama India aliran Ahlul Hadith yang ditulis oleh Dr. Faisal Ahmad Shah. Kini bacaan tentang ulama India aliran Deobandi pula.
