This is a sequel. The first book in the series is "the 13th continuum " , so far as I have seen not a little people have read that series which is a shame as I think this trilogy is one the best YA trilogies out there ....and you know there are a lot to choose from out there .... if you love that book , then you will certainly love this one ...is a continuation from where the story ends on the first book, we get more character development and unlikely allies and long forgotten enemy returns ... secrets are revealed regarding the origin of the continuums and one character death puts everything in perspective.... if you decided to read this trilogy and love it please let me know ..

The Continuum Trilogy Bk #2 - 3.5 stars...
In this second book, Myra and her friends from the underwater 13th continuum are trying to rendezvous with Aero and his friends from the 2nd continuum from outer space. Once they landed on the surface though they encountered a number of obstactles and hostile creatures that hindered their meeting...
Honestly, there were parts of this story I really liked and then a few parts -not so much. I enjoyed the second half more so then the first but I was dissapointed that the story ended where it did. I was expecting this second book to progress a lot further then it actually did but there was quite a bit of extraneous filler. Then, the story ended with a huge cliffhanger right when the refugees were finally making some headway so now I'm very anxiously awaiting the finale!

If you have any interest in science fiction, young adult literature, or dystopian fiction, this is your book. This is the sequel to a strong first installment of the Continuum Trilogy. This series has been roundly praised for its "world-building," and it's easy to see why. The author constructs not one just one world, but at least three, and they all seem complete and believable. The engaging young heroine and hero struggle through numerous challenges and some of the scenes are real nail-biters. It is possible to read this installment alone, but I recommend starting with the first volume, "The 13th Continuum," where the main characters are introduced and events are set in motion. Once you become immersed in this adventure, you will be eager for the publication of the third and final installment.

Brody does it again in the second book in The Continuum Trilogy. Myra, Aero and Seeker rendezvous in deserts, mountains and the deep underground cavernous city of The Darkness of the Below. In the beginning of the book, all the main characters are separated and slowly making their way to each other. I enjoyed the thought process that Brody must have gone through in order to weave so many different storylines and locations together. There were some areas in the book that lend itself to "larger than life" ideals. The lightening scene was one such occasion. I found myself rolling my eyes and saying, "you couldn't come up with something better than that?". In this same way, I felt the first half of the novel lagged tremendously. BUT the second half of the novel redeemed itself in a big way. Once Myra, Aero and Seeker are finally joined together, we see the razzle dazzle of Brody's writing. The characters are given added dimension in relation to their back story and their new challenges as well as friendships. There were many instances where the twist was expected yet still juicy to read and others where it was a total shock (such as the explanation of how the Doom occurred). Although, at the end of Book 2, you will definitely be waiting on pens and needles for the outcome of the surviving human race in Book 3, there were a couple other questions still lingering in the characters lives as well...who is really in love with who? Will someone sabotage saving the others because of jealousy? Bravo to Brody for entering another novel in the series that is a good foundation for what I hope will be a legendary ending!

Ok, I tell you one thing - this trilogy is so good!
I love everything about it: the world, characters, atmosphere, plot etc. The idea is amazing and I can't wait to read the last book!
I liked how the relationship between Myra and Aero is changing after different events. I like the unexpected plot twists, which made me happy, angry, scared and so on. We finally got more details about The End and the first continuum, and what was actually the point of everything happened. Some thing are still not clear, and it made me want to read the next book as soon as possible.
The first book is concentrated on 2 main characters, but here we have more characters (chapters have different points of view, but stil a third person) and it is an advantage.
I don't know what to add without spoilers, I just want to say thatthis trilogy needs more attention and more people should read it! It is one of my favorite YA dystopia so far and I recommend it to everyone who likes the genre.
P.S. I was reading the book for several hours and then I turned a page and it was the last one! I was literally suprised, I always check how many pages I have til the end, but with this book I just forgot about everything

I am still on this drug but to be honest the whole part with the Seventh Continiuum is terrible. I also can add to the list of the most annoying things Myra's endless wining and her transformation into hysterical and not adorable character, lack of elementary logic and cheap plot twists. I even consider not buying the third book but I am too weak in my addiction. I've left with only hope in the third book will be more bearable, more like the first one.

A wonderful second installment in the thrilling dystopian sci-fi Continuum Trilogy, Return of the Continuums, picks up right where The 13th Continuum left off. Myra Jackson, her little brother Tinker, and her friends are on The Surface of the Post-Doom earth, and are on their epic quest to find the First Continuum. We also check in with Aero Wright and his companions from the Second Continuum, who are also on their way to the First Continuum as well.
One of the many favorite things I have of this series is the prologue flashbacks to a selected Before Doom scene. Seeing the selection process of Aero and Myra’s ancestors – as well as the deliberation process into how the Chosen were selected and placed into their Continuums – was incredibly intriguing, and we find out more on this later on towards the end of Return of the Continuums. Author Jennifer Brody’s skillfulness in seeding in clues that have a massive payoff towards the end of this volume in the Continuum Trilogy shows incredible mastery in crafting Return of the Continuums into a successful second book that advanced the plot in a significant way that has purpose in moving along the stories of all of the characters we have come to know and love with great purpose. We get to see Myra, Aero, Tinker, and friends grow as they journey across earth from where they all respectively crash landed from the 13th Continuum and the Second Continuum, and painstakingly try to find their way to the First Continuum.
We get to see the toll being a Carrier has on both Myra and Aero, the immense burden of carrying the hope of survival for their people has on both them. The people they have lost along the way, making sure that those people who sacrificed their lives for the cause did not die in vain.
I must commend Jennifer Brody on the incredible development of the character introduced briefly in the epilogue of Book 1: The 13th Continuum – Seeker – one of the new characters we meet in Return of the Continuums as a significant POV character. Her story and journey as become one of my favorite viewpoints into this incrediblly vast and expansive world that Jennifer Brody has created in such an immensely masterful way. She is unlike any character that I have read in contemporary literature, yet her uniqueness and her connection to another one of my favorite character’s in Jennifer Brody’s unive
Without spoiling the amazing reveals and surprises that occur – especially in the tail end of Return of the Continuums, I must highlight the continued love and admiration I have for the incredible attention to detail Jennifer Brody executes throughout the course of the Continuum Trilogy. The historical journal entries, flashbacks, memories, Constitutional Amendments and Laws. The deep mythos of the thirteen Continuums that Jennifer Brody has created is intriguing and compelling; and as a reader, I feel such a high level of trust in reading Jennifer Brody’s stories, because I feel confident in her very capable hands that any and all questions that may arise as we journey on with Myra, Aero, and the many other characters that populate Jennifer Brody’s universe will be answered in due time. Every character has their own unique motivation, and (as we see from the Before Doom scene in Chapter 0, to the final roundtable near the closing of Return of the Continuums) Jennifer Brody has very thoughtfully chosen to reveal bits and pieces of information in a very calculated way that maximizes our emotional response to the story to the fullest.
There are not many books that, when I finish reading them, I feel the immense need to take a day to digest the contents of the story and mourn the end of the book in order to move on with my day. Jennifer Brody’s writing is one of those rare finds that elicits a visceral emotional response from her readers, and manages to still leave the reader wanting more. I cannot wait until I am able to reunite with Myra, Aero, Seeker, and everyone else in The United Continuums: The Continuum Trilogy, Book 3; and find out what Jennifer Brody has in store for them, and for us!

Return of the Continuums, the second book in the Continuum Trilogy, is a YA dystopian/sci-fi novel.
Return of the Continuums picks up where the first book left off: 1000 years ago, a weapon destroyed the earth, and humans hid away in 13 continuums (colonies), awaiting the day when they can return to the surface of the earth. That time has come, but it isn’t going how the founders intended. Only a few continuums survived, and they are internally divided about whether to return to earth ... if they even know it’s possible. A two groups of teens from the two known, surviving continuums made it to the surface of the earth, but they now face the harrowing jointing of traveling thousands of miles cross-country to the First Continuum, which will hopefully contain the answers they are seeking.
Return of the Continuums was an enjoyable read. It was a satisfactory continuation of the series. I liked watching Myra, Arrow, and the rest of the characters grow as people as they face difficult decisions and try to survive. There was a bit of a love quadrangle going on, and I don’t think I can predict how it will end. (Unpredictability is a complement!)
The setting and plot was very similar to other books in the genre, but it was still unique enough to provide a compelling story and interesting setting.
A topic throughout the series is the idea of human nature. Humans bent on destruction were the ones that sent the Doom on the earth. And now humans are causing issues inside the continuums because of a lust for power and greed. Not everyone is that way, but the ones who are seem to cause destruction and death. Can humanity change? I want to know where the end of the series takes the topic and have found it an engaging idea so far.
As for the content, it is somewhat clean. The worst things are the following: There is minimal, if any, swearing. There is a decent amount of violence, although it isn’t described in too great of detail — lots of people being killed, cannibalism, torture, horrific dreams, and more. And one couple jumps into a physical relationship very quickly; there is very little description, even of kissing, but a romantic pair “coupled,” as they put it.
I enjoyed this book as a whole and would recommend it to fans of The City of Ember.

Return of the Continuums by Jennifer Brody is a great YA dystopian novel. It continues off where the first novel left off. A bunch of teens working together to finish a quest. The obstacles that await them are challenging. It kind of reminds me a little of Star Wars and the Jedi. They have lost a lot of people for cause that may or may not win. Loss, grief, struggles, war, and survival are themes found in this book. Only two characters hold the burden of survival on their shoulders. Determined, they continue their journey for hope. For those looking for action, adventure, and fantasy...this, is a must read. It contains all of these elements.

Ms. Brody, when do you find time to sleep, or eat for that matter. She's done it again in a brilliant sequel to her debut, The 13th Continuum. I found it fascinating how the human genome and society could devolve like it did inside the 7th Continuum. But quite a few books follow the "no electricity : no society" theme, although the 7th had a few other disasters helping it along. It was also interesting to see how, well, sterile the Earth had become after the Doom. Aside from that, the novel keeps up with the perfect dystopian theme and pace set by her previous book, making easily one of the best I've read.

Another awkward middle story. This one borrowed just a bit too much from Lord of the Rings for my taste. One of the characters was a very blatant Gollum rip-off. Just not as good as book 1. I hope book 3 brings it back around.

Enjoyable sequel, if a bit predictable. I definitely want to read the conclusion and I hope it will answer all my questions about the history of this world and the continuums. Myra's indecision about the boys she loves feels a bit contrived. The situation with Aero makes sense, with the beacon maybe artificially confusing her feelings, but her mood swings about Kaleb don't feel realistic. There are times towards the beginning where she seems almost repulsed by him but then all of the sudden she's crazy in romantic love with him.

Not NEARLY as good as the first one but still a great read. It picked up considerably halfway through and really tugged at my heartstrings. However, the first couple of chapters dragged a bit and I was disappointed to see Myra so focused on her intimate relationships as opposed to worrying about herself. But all in all it was fun and scary and much, MUCH darker than the first book and despite its flaws, "Return" has me eagerly awaiting the third and final installment in Brody's "Continuum" trilogy.

February 28, 2017Jennifer Brody had me hooked on the first book of this series. I was so hooked on the first book that I read it in full on an iPhone 5S screen! For the Return of the Continuums I read in luxury — the paperback.
Return of the Continuums didn't disappoint. The worlds, characters, and story, all grew and continued to surprise me. It was hard to reach the end and not have the 3rd book to pick up.
It's YA and I think works well as a YA book. However, I'm well passed being a Young Adult and I read and as a professional author covering tech, I write at above average levels — and I loved this book.

This was my favorite book from this trilogy. I love the character development as they have to figure out their new lives, lives each of them never expected. Seeing how their lives intertwine is what I was waiting for through the entire first book so I couldn’t wait to start, then finish this book. Always kept me wanting more, a true page turner, “I have to see what happens next”, book. Highly recommend!

This is not a book that could be read as a standalone novel. The book jumps right into the action following Myra and her friends as they search for the First Continuum. It picks up with the same characters and the plot line exactly from The 13th Continuum. Each chapter is told from the point of view of a different character. We get to learn a lot more about the world that the characters live in. We also get a much better picture of how everything is related.
I loved how we get to learn a lot more about the individual characters and really see their personalities take form. I loved Myra as a character, we get to see her strength and loyalty grow throughout the book. We also get to see her make mistakes and grow even stronger. I loved getting to see her interact with other characters as well as reading about her from different perspectives in the book. I also love her brother Tinker I feel like he is way beyond his years in his knowledge and he really brings out the best side in people. I feel like I would love a Tinker standalone novel or even chapters told by Tinker.
This story takes place mostly in the present tense, but we do get a lot of flash backs into what happened to some of the continuum's. The author did a great job showing how humanity evolved during the Doom. We also get a lot of details pieced together towards the end of this book. There is still a large amount of questions and I will be reading the next book in these series because I need to know how it all pieces together. The author does a great job with leaving you wanting more while you are reading.

Things I didn't love was some of the details in the book I felt like the author could have went into a little more detail. I felt like some of the science details we were getting quickly and I could sort of picture what the author was talking about, but still had questions. I felt like this book was a very fast paced nature and I would have liked the author to expand more upon some of the details so create a clearer picture in my mind.
I would suggest this as a weekend read. I felt like the story had a lot going on and it took a lot more of my focus while I was reading. Science fiction is generally a harder book for me to follow so I like when I have more time to digest the novel. Also, there was a lot of suspense so it made me keep wanting to read.

Return of the Continuums feels very much like a filler book, with whole parts not really adding to the story so much as giving our characters something to do. I kept wishing that the last part of book 2 had been the ending of book 1 - it would have gone a long way toward softening the abruptness of the first book and the ennui of the second. Admittedly, I was also wishing for more surprises - the story ticks off all the marks for a decently written book but it never seems to elevate the parts into a more interesting whole.Story: Myra and her friends have washed up on the East Coast US. Aero, on the other hand, is in an area of desert (New Mexico?). Both have to get their friends to the first continuum. When Myra encounters a strange human-like creature, she will soon discover that something went very wrong in one of the continuums. It will take all three - creature and 2 humans - working together to survive a harsh world and make it to the first continuum.
Perhaps because I've already seen this concept of protected post apocalyptic settlements often (especially, close parallels can be drawn to the anime Ergo Proxy), I was wishing for something more distinct. I didn't find any surprises and certainly the rather simplistic 'goodness' of our main characters failed to spark much interest. Author Brody has good ideas on how the continuums went wrong due to each having a focus (e.g., the philosophical-focused continuum goes religion crazy and the military themed continuum becomes overly martial) but again, I've seen this before and the conclusions are rather obvious. Adding in the very trite and over used cliches of "overheard conversation that tells of a nefarious plan!", "best friend sacrifice", "love triangle' and "I have something important to say but get interrupted just before I can say it!" didn't help give the story depth.
That said, it is still an enjoyable if very plot-by-numbers read. The ending has a bit of a cliffhanger and 'surprise' that should encourage readers to want to finish the book and see where it goes. So even if this second book feels like filler, I think readers who enjoyed the first will still enjoy this second book in the Continuum series. As all of their adventures intertwine, the survivors face life and death facing some of their most dangerous enemies as they try to reach the First Continuum, in which their arrivals can restore their Continuums and all of humanity.
Although I kind of like the first book a little better than the second, I still loved this book nonetheless! It was an amazing book! I felt as if I was a part of the story since I felt a variety of emotions from this story, whether I was shocked, scared, or even crying. It truly felt like I was watching an actual action/adventure movie!

I almost cried once or twice, and I'm not going to spoil which part it was that's really really sad, because something tragic happens. Almost all of the elements of a good movie plot is present in the story, from betrayal to heartbreak, romance to action, intrigue and plot twists. The ending will surprise you! Be warned. It will provide the ground for the final (aww....) book that will probably be just as intense. I didn't want the book to end; I was wanting more!
I honestly didn't find myself as "I can't put this down" as the first book. It might have been that the ending might have started off a bit slower. Maybe it was how placing Seeker and the Seventh Continuum into the story started off a bit rocky (like how a plane might not have the smoothest landing). Nevertheless, I still enjoyed it really much. I really want to read the final book! I just want to know how it ends!

As I wrote in my review of #1 in this series, I wish I could remember where I first heard about it so I could thank/credit the source/person. I plowed through this installment in one day as there is plenty of action and well-developed characters to keep me reading. Now to wait for the final installment.

If you've read my review of Jennifer Brody's The 13th Continuum (review linked), you know I was enthralled by it, especially the world-building aspect of the story, and by the author's writing. I was very excited to read The Return of the Continuums, book 2 of The Continuum Trilogy, but I had to hold back, not wanting my over-eagerness taint any type of false expectations. That was absolutely silly thinking. The Return of the Continuums was everything a fan of the first book expected and more.
Jennifer Brody's writing continues to fascinate me in her prose, her attention to detail, as well as her creativity in building this world we know of, and technically adding more worlds. The complexity of it all astounds me, yet it made sense! How? I have no idea, but it works. Of course, I didn't exactly expect more detailed explanation of the world I thought I knew enough about from book 1, but it was well presented and executed. I didn't expect, but I was glad of it. It created more suspense and excitement, and development of the characters. We get to see Myra and Aero's back stories and how it affects themselves and their relationships. Of note, the flashbacks to "before the Doom" were a great detail that tied everything together nicely.
What I can tell you about The Return of the Continuum isn't just a bridge between the beginning and the end of the series, it's the reason, or at least it held the reason, and by the last page, you will pre-order the last book in the series, The United Continuums, hoping to get it as soon as you can.

This picks up right from where the last one ends. No sugar coating and not pulling any punches. It jumps right to the destruction of the Continuums. Doom was quite the evil mistress and ruined life as we knew it.
After Doom was detonated, Myra and her friends lead out to find the First Continuum. With her Beacon leading the way, she has a dream of Aero helping her find her way back.
This leads them on quite the journey, through the roughest rains and the toughest deserts. They must find their way if they want to survive. Losing almost all of their supplies, they believe all hope is lost.
That is until Seeker finds them and leads them to an underground world of a lost Continuum.
They finally realize that Seeker leads them astray and they must fight for their lives.
The Stong Ones will have the biggest feast they have ever seen with the help of these new found humans.
Aero must find them before it is too late.
This was one hell of a punch. I didn't think she could outdo herself with the first one and she shocked me with this second one. I felt like I was in the ring with her and she beat to be a bloody pulp.
There was so much character growth and you actually feel what they are feeling. Between love, terror and hopelessness. You feel it all.
The way that she describes your surroundings, you feel like you are there and you can visualize being through this Labyrinth of the land. It made it that more intense.
And let us not forget those big twists at the end! You can't just leave us hanging like that?
Now we all must wait patiently for the end of the world.....

The second book in the Continuum Trilogy delivers in a major way. In this novel we find our heroes on a barren planet, devoid of life and in search of the 1st Continuum. And if that wasn't bad enough, their rations are low and their spirits lower. It's only made worse when Myra and team stumble upon survivors of the 7th Continuum - who've not fared so well in their post-Doom hiding place deep within the Appalachian Mountains.
While Myra contends with a host of unsavory creatures and a Gollum-esque guide, Aero and his contingent are on a desperate search to find her. And he does... but not soon enough to avoid casualties. It's a gut wrenching scene when Myra loses one of her faithful companions, and it's written in such an evocative way that the reader yearns for Myra's loss as if it were their own.
Once the teams have united - they're still not out of the woods. The 2nd Continuum is hot on their heels and manages to catch up to our heroes just in time to force Myra and Aero into a very precarious position that leaves the readers desperate to know what becomes of the rest of their friends. Add that on top of a fantastic exploration of the 1st Continuum and a surprise cliff hanger ending, and you'll see why this book was hard to put down!

While I definitely enjoyed this installment in the Continuum Trilogy, it didn't quite grab me the way book 1 did. I suppose I didn't feel like I got the character growth and answers to questions I was hoping for in book 2. Now don't get me wrong, this is certainly time well spent, and there are moments of gorgeous writing just begging to be highlighted and shared. However, and I try not to have too many expectations, but the first novel set the bar a bit higher than this one reached. I'm hoping that in the third piece of the puzzle, more things will become clear and we'll feel like we learn some truths and personal history for our two main characters and their various cohorts. At the least, I would like to see their hopeful journey continue to express some meaningful beliefs about the greater good and what freedom truly means. As well as survival adventure and sweet romance, such as we've seen so far. I like that this doesn't really fit into any one genre only, and that even though there are predictable points we're still surprised along the way. Aero still annoys me but it's not his fault. I bet he'd be cute enough to get away with it IRL anyway.
