The Handbook on the Historical Books is the first of a projected eight volumes in the brand new Apostolic Handbook Series. Covering the span of books from Joshua through Esther, Chris Paris has written a highly accessible and thoroughly researched volume with new insight and practical application for us today. Your understanding of the Historical Books will be greatly enriched by reading this book.
This book is the general overview of the Old Testament from the Bible. If the topics or the subjects about the Old Testament(the Pentateuch, Poetry, Historical) bored you to death, then you may need to read this book for starter. Mind you, I said for a starter not in lieu of the Old Testament like having appetizer before having your proper meal.
I like the writing style of this author which made my journey of reading this book is more like reading a good story book filled with satires. However, if you are a serious Bible student, reading this book alone is insufficient; you need to read Jensen's Survey of the Old Testament in addition to this book.
Excellent teaching and commentary on the historical books. Very easy to read and understand. Much is understood in scripture by context and background commentary.
