When Waddy Bullion refers to his experience working for LBJ as a tax attorney and business advisor, he calls it "being in the boat." LBJ was the captain; the crew either met his standards for effort and excellence or they got out.
John L. Bullion earned his BA from Stanford University in 1966 and his doctorate from the University of Texas-Austin in 1977. He was a member of the history department at Texas State University-San Marcos from 1974 to 1978, after which he taught at the University of Missouri from 1978 until his retirement in 2017.
