This is my first time reading a story from the Pam of Babylon series but the book stood up fine on its own merits.
We’re introduced to a young Jack Smith, son of influential New York City parents. We learn of his abusive father and how it affected Jack’s later decisions and ultimately turned him into a character readers love to hate.
This book intrigued me enough to want to learn more about this complex family- great storytelling!
This is an interesting short story which the reader is taken along on a journey with Jack and his young friends. Appearances are important was how Jack was raised and he is gets very good at keeping those up to the highest level of society. There are some interesting discussions concerning success and what drives it, friendship, boundaries and lifestyles...…
Thanks to Suzanne Jenkins for writing this clarification of Jack's personality, habits and motivations. It cleared up many discrepancies in Pam of Babylon about Jack's character. Great title.
However, it needs a thorough re-edit, especially the first half. I stopped cataloging the errors after that.
An interesting story filling out the background of Jack Smith. We got to know Jack posthumously through the Pam stories. This story fleshed out the character. I'm ready for the next book in the series.
This is Jack's adolescence and young adulthood which shows why he became who he was, leading a double life. It's a wonderful read, filling in the blanks.
Before reading this book, I was ambivalent on Jack. Now I hate him! Good book when an author can make you feel and or change your feeling about a character in a series!
Being a fan of the Pam of Babylon Series, Jack was a character that left me wanting to know more about him. Finally understanding and clarity arrives by the end of the book. The author, Suzanne Jenkins, introduces characters and weaves them together into a beautiful cloth in every book she writes. Beautiful Heartbreaker is no exception. With a smaller cast of characters, they are even more fully developed. It is a prequel that fulfils the questions and leaves the reader satisfied. Leaves me waiting for the next Pam of Babylon book. The cover was exactly how I imagined Jack would look.
This put together all the questions about "Jack" in the previous 13 books... Just a short read, but good summary of his life.. I hope there is another that goes into his life before he dies..
