Probably one of my least favorite entries in the series so far. I like that they are exploring college life and life apart, but I think giving every character so many bumps in the road all at once is a little forced. Still, I want to see how they all deal with what's happening.

(rant) are you fucking kidding me? again?! ANOTHER love triangle? bro, yamato is old enough and popular enough to understand when a woman is flirting with him, so he doesn’t need to go act as this is all normal easy peasy, i would have broken up with him so much earlier. asami too should break up with her pervert of a boyfriend, social butterfly my ass

Oof. I really like that the series is showing how your relationship changes when you go for high school (where you see each other everyday and are always in the same space) to college and the real world (where its a lot harder and requires more effort to maintain your old relationships while starting to make new ones). That struggle is real and it can be jarring how quickly things changes, so it was interesting watching the characters go through that.

I have never like Takeshi and at best tolerated or ignored him. I always thought that Asumi could do better, so if they break up, I'm not gonna be sad. Honestly, I hope she dates that guy who is also trying to be a preschool teacher and plays piano. He seems sweet. Yamato and Mei just need to talking clearly to each other and address their insecurities and how their dynamic is inevitably changing now that they have graduated and are working towards their respective careers.

Also, I love that Aiko and her boyfriend are considered the most assured and stable relationship of the bunch.

I really liked the scene with Megumi and Rin in Paris and seeing how much Rin admires Megumi, while in turn, Megumi acknowledging that she is jealous and is projecting her insecurities on Rin. She really has made a lot of growth as a person. (Still hate her boyfriend. Still think its weird. Still waiting for that to be acknowledged.)

I hope they don't drag out the jealousy plot too long. Also I do hope Asumi and Takeshi break up.

Suki-Tte Ii Na Yo a.k.a Say I Love You

A light read filled with positive messages.

(The rating and review are conclusion for all of the volumes excluding the synopsis. Beware of spoiler.)

《 Plot 》
The pace of the story is good. Although there are 18 volumes all over, it doesn’t make you lose interest in it. The story starts by introducing Mei who's a bully victim. She doesn’t have any friends because she always distances herself from people. This is because she has been betrayed by her friends back in the middle school. Ever since then, she never trusts people anymore. However, she begins to change when she gets to know Yamato. Yamato is a popular guy that has many friends and is wayyy too friendly with girls. He starts to approach Mei when she kicked him because of some misunderstanding that happened. Yamato pursues Mei every day which eventually leads them being together. The story starts to develop from there and it’s being told from Mei’s POV.

《 Characters 》
Mei Tachibana, the heroine
When Mei starts falling in love with Yamato, she feels scared of showing everything to him. I can relate to that a lot because you don't know how things will be so it's scary. There are other moments that I can relate to but I won't tell you to avoid spoiler.

At one point, Mei begins to change herself by engaging more with people around her. That's what makes her strong and kind girl. She is very observant of people around her and tries to help them the best she can. I love her character development.

Yamato Kurosawa, the hero
Yamato is a typical cool who is popular for his kindness. Despite being a cool popular guy, he still has his own flaws. There are some issues that he struggles with but didn't let people see him in that way. I wouldn't really picture him as a really good guy. He has his flaw but he learns to change little by little.

《 Pros & Cons 》
Realistic & healthy relationship
↳ There are several couples born in this comic and each of them shows what relationship is likely to be in real life especially Mei’s relationship. If you have been in a relationship, several situations that happened will make you go “Omg, I went through that too!”. On top of that, most of them are in a healthy relationship making it enjoyable to read.

Positive messages
↳ It touches the issue of bully and friendship. Although Mei has been bullied, she doesn’t retaliate at those who had betrayed her back then. It also shows that life is more wonderful with loyal companions being by your side.

The art drawn
↳ It’s not that the art are bad or anything. It’s just not really my cup of tea. I noticed that the art was changing slightly as the volume continues on. It got better in my opinion.

《 Extras 》
My favourite manga! I keep going back to this whenever I feel like reading something light and fun. This is my first manga that I read when I first started to read comic. I was so happy when I found out this comic had completed in English version. These are several quotes that I love from this story.
“Nothing makes a girlfriend more insecure than a boyfriend who's kind to everyone.”
“No matter how beautiful you are, when you're dating someone, all of your flaws come out.”
“If you want to move forward, sometimes, you can't keep doing things the way you've always done them. That peace of mind ruins you and hurts people.”
“You can get stronger by loving others and letting them love you.”

⚝ Who should read? ⚝
❥ Enjoy high school story.
❥ Love friendship theme story.
❥ Can tolerate typical “famous guy” falls for “unpopular girl”.

Thinking about why Asami even dated a loser like Nakanishi 🙄 whatever I hate men because ?? Y’all away from your girlfriends and all of a sudden y’all don’t know how to act ? PLEASE, save it for someone else 😒

I mean this is my 2020 gen Z (not really ?) perspective because honestly I AM OVER bowing down to people!! Do not get me wrong I am my worst fan and do not promote self love to myself as much as I should but!! You sure as hell bet I won’t stand for someone disrespecting me or my friend like that.

Men are trash, period. And the argument of nOt aLL mEn?¿ is invalid bc men who aren’t like that don’t even get provoked from the men is trash statement and that’s the truth oop.

Obviously I see what this arc is supposed to represent. It’s where you meet new people and it’s hard to keep in touch with people of your past that were once precious to your daily life. Obviously meeting new people and making new memories and connections is apart of life and is what gives humans a well rounded fulfillment of life. There will be bumps in the road when you tread upon a path that has never been taken, after all you can’t see that far ahead of you.

Stan Aiko and Masashi, and fuck Nakanishi I hated this man since he decided it’s okay to harass a girl because he knows she’s quiet and probably wouldn’t do anything about it.

also I would include a few others things where I was like ? But this is shoujo and the characters are not me so I’ll give them the pass.

Update (after reading a lil of volume 17): Nakanishi is still fucken wack but at least he’s not a complete idiot

Wow, kudos to the author for taking us from Mei and Yamato's high school graduation in the last volume and then starting this one where Mei is training to become a preschool teacher and Yamato is in college. That time jump could've felt jarring but somehow it didn't. I love Mei, she has grown so much and is so wise! She knows that some distance will happen between her and Yamato because they are branching off into separate career paths but she intuitively knows this was meant to happen, and that it is healthy to have your own career/hobbies while still being in a committed relationship. I just love her ;-; Yamato annoyed me a little bit, like, clearly his classmate is putting the moves on him but our dear boy is clueless AF. Heart of gold, handsome boi but dumb as a bag of bricks when it comes to reading the signs. Literally why, Megumi tried the same shit before!!!! C'mon Yamato. Speaking of Megumi, I do not like her new boyfriend at all, I foresee disaster but our prickly girl will learn. She is a character that originally I disliked but she is so much more than a mean girl. She has depth and I'm glad that the author is exploring her character arc.

P.S. Aiko is amazing and so is Asami chan who deserves SO MUCH BETTER THAN NAKANISHI.

Another girl likes Yamato how surprising. But Yamato is such a kind hearted person he seems naive to her and her intentions (she's not a horrible person though). Following Megumi and her struggles is interesting but tbh at some point all this modeling gets annoying. It makes the story a little less relatable.

It’s not like I’m not concerned about my relationship, either but if all I can do about Yamato is worry…I think it’s better to use that time for myself. We each make time for ourselves, for each other’s sake. Maybe that’s what growing up is all about.”

I like how Mei brings a balance to her anxiety concerning the changes in her relationship with Yamato. It’s her wisdom and love that comforts Asami-san whose boyfriend is currently being an asshat as he drinks his way through college.

Another low rating…. I do like seeing the characters in a new setting navigating how their relationships change with time and distance, but all the bumps in the road for the characters feel repetitive and unnecessary if im being honest. Idk the details of whats happening with Asami and her boyfriend or wtv, but I don’t get why they are milking that storyline and giving it to Mei too. Somehow in the mess of all of this Aiko has become one of the best characters who would have thought.

Yamato needs to distance himself from this chick ASAP! She expressed attraction when she met him and now she’s following him around!!! Even quitting smoking for HIM!!!!
And I’m sad for Asami… Dammit, Nakanishi!!! But sadly, not all high school relationships make it to the end…

3.5 rounded up. 300th library book yay! It takes a lot of guts to have the happy couple and give them such sudden trouble but with a shift into college it makes sense. I'm glad that Yamato and Mei have old friends with them at college to make the transition to college smoother. It also makes a great complement to Mei and Yamato's troubles with Asami and Nakanishi breaking up. I do think Yamato is too boneheaded here and contrived. He's an ex-playboy and he is somehow not picking up on the clear moves the girl is putting on him. Megumi and Rin get some page space here too. I'm glad the focus is more Megumi as I find her more interesting than Rin and I enjoy when Rin is more of a mirror for Megumi to deal with her insecurities and frustration at her place in the industry than being a character.

Now we have college tramps coming after Yamato, though lying isn’t the right thing, not even to spare Mei’s feelings.
