My Daring Highlander by Vonda Sinclair is the fourth book in the Highland Adventure series. Is this Rebbie’s story that I have been waiting for? Nope. But it will do. This is Keegan’s story. He is briefly introduced in the previous book. He is cousins with Dirk who is now laird and married to Isobel. But since Dirk married Isobel, what happens to Lady Seona who he was contracted to marry? Lady Seona does not want to return home to her abusive father, but there is another reason she doesn’t want to return home. She can’t get the warrior, Keegan out of her mind. He is kind to her and she does not care that he is beneath her station. They want to be together so desperately but it seems impossible.
How many lives does the villain Haldane have? I mean, come on! I am over his villain arc. I am ready for something new and more sinister. Despite the villain issue, I did enjoy this romance. Keegan is so respectful and takes consent very seriously—which I appreciate, unlike one of the heroes in the previous books. I absolutely love it when both the hero and heroine are just a perfect match. Seona has wonderful character development. While she is shy and reserved, she is always willing to try new things, like learn to handle a dagger and protect herself. I must say, I was not happy with the resolution with her uptight aunt. She should have told auntie to stick it where the sun doesn’t shine, but Seona is too kind for that.
The pace is fantastic, as always. In fact, I read it one night. I can’t wait to jump into book five! I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars!
My Daring Highlander is a bewitching potion to Historical Romance. This spellbinding story was full of intense drama, humorous and serious exhilarating action, and a passion with such a magnetic force that kept me entranced throughout the whole book. I’m still in a dreamy daze just thinking about everything that unfolded within the story.
Keegan and Seona’s stolen moments of teasing kisses in the mist of trouble completely amused me as they endured through their hardships of dealing with their personal societal prestiges knowing Seona’s father would not allow her to marry someone with a lower status quo than her own. To complicate things, her chaperone Lady Patience interfered ever chance she got – I totally hated her. Plus with the dangerous evil highway men like Haldane and McMurdo trying to kidnap Seona it seemed like the couple never had a chance to begin with.
Lady Seona’s character was a sweet innocent virgin with a deviously curiosity that was very refreshing from most shy virgins most read about. She is exactly what her title describes, a real lady in the fact that her actions are sincere and her intentions are protective towards the ones she truly cares about. Her beauty doesn't lie in her looks alone, no it is found in her essence of her smile and tender voice. Though physically soft and tender hearted, her fear made her brave yet executed wisely.
Keegan MacKay (SIGH!) is the most honorable, noble, strong, steadfast, trusting, lovable dreamy man that every lass (like Me!) would want to capture, keep, and cherish. He is more than just handsome; no staring into his eyes can tell you everything about him is sincere. I can’t believe I’m in love with a character; I totally melted on his every word to Seona. LOL
Keegan and Seona’s erotic scenes were tender and sweet. Their desires built up throughout the story with each stolen moment becoming more intense – going from 1st base to 3rd base. When they hit the home run the carnal pleasure sizzled with a ravishing rapture. (3 Fire Flames)
The drama that unfolds is mind-boggling. So many things happening at once I couldn't guess how the plot would end. There were several things I liked about the story. One being I loved how the author treated the reading audience as if they were virgins as well. She uses Chief Dirk MacKay and Lady Isobel as the perfect example to true love. Most importantly she let’s Lady Isobel educate Lady Seona and the readers about proper bedding pleasures and feelings of desires between a man and women explaining what to expect when a couple truly loved each other. The scenes were very classy and tasteful and well explained. It gave the vibe of a best friend / sister kind of moment.
It’s funny how every story has it villains to hate. In this case, I was about ready to jump in the story and ring Seona’s Father’s (Chief Ambrose Murray) neck for her. He was one ruthless waste of human flesh who took out his rage physically towards everyone to include clan members and his own daughters. It is heart breaking what happens to Seona’s sister Talia. I’m hoping she gets a story of her own as well.
Of course the other villains are Haldane and McMurdo – I hope eventually they get what is due to them. I know Haldane is Dirk MacKay half brother and I don’t know if he could even redeem himself if he ever found true love, at any rate, for now, I have come to despise him due to his actions of hatred.
We don’t want to forget some other heroes to mention like Rebbie (Robert MacInnis, Earl of Rebbinglen) – I hope he gets a story. Then what about Frazer (Isobel’s brother) – I hope he gets a story too. I love their fierceness and humor bantering – such intriguing and interesting characters.
The climaxing plot was definitely somewhat of a surprise. I love how some acts of faith prevent the evil deeds from being a burden or tarnish on ones soul – needless to say, Freak accidents will happen especially with regard to Seona’s father. Faith and miracles leave Keegan and Seona a well deserved happy ending after everything they go through. This had such a happy ending I just wanted the story to last forever.
I highly recommend this whole series to all historical romance readers. I look forward to reading the next book in the series “My Notorious Highlander”.
Excellent Read!

Vonda Sinclair is one of my new go-to authors for Highlander romance! I am loving this series. And I love that I get to see past characters again. In My Daring Highlander, we follow Keegan MacKay, a fierce and passionate warrior (and cousin to hottie Dirk from My Brave Highlander). From afar he's loved Lady Seona since the moment he saw her--and she's been watching and wishing too. When he gives her a lesson in self-defense, the simmering attraction sparks into exciting flames. I couldn't put it down. The adventure, emotion, sensuality, loyalty and friendship in the the story (and series) are all very satisfying. I know when I sit down to read, I'm going to come away with a smile.
Keegan Mackay is a devilishly handsome and charming cousin of the Chief, but he is also a heroic and fearsome guard. He has a relaxed nature, with a good sense of humour, who can easilyh turn on the seductive charm when he wants to, but can just as easily switch back to serious and deadly warrior mode when needed. Keegan has fallen in love with the very beautiful Lady Seona Murray, but she is above his station and out of reach, though she secretly loves this handsome highlander too. But Seona has a tragic tale to tell, unloved by her brutish and bullish father, loved by a villaneous and despicable half brother of the chief who also wants to marry her, Seona is caught between loving Keegan and fearing for his life. This is a wonderfully entertaining, emotional, passionate and humorous read by Vonda Sinclair. Vonda has a wonderful way of pulling you into this delicious book, her vivid descriptions of the era, the emotional and heart warming conversations, the poignant story line, plots that twist and turn, new and familiar characters, this book is a treat for the soul. I absolutely loved it!
I truly enjoy Vonda Sinclair's novels! I am so glad that she creates characters that I love to keep reading about from book to book. This book is about Keegan and Lady Seona. Seona's father is a horrible man, but she is loved by the best guard, ever. I enjoyed how the author truly makes the reader invest in these characters. Personally, I was afraid she was about to do something to one of the characters ,and I had to message her to make sure he that he shows up in later books! :) The pesky McMurdo and Haldane, both antagonists, are not caught at the end of this book. I know there will be lots of more stories to tell. I enjoy these books because the characters are Scottish, and all have a happily ever after endings. I am kept guessing as to how it will happen, but I know that at the end I will be delighted. I highly suggest you read these books. You can read them as a standalone, but it makes more sense to read the ones before, plus they are all fantastic as well! Download this book, today!!!
I was seriously on the edge of my seat throughout this entire book, wondering what would happen next. Keegan and Seona's story is wholly unpredictable and leaves you guessing from beginning to end. I laughed, and I cried, as though I was right there along with them. A beautifully written and spellbinding story, full of alluring characters, and a strong storyline. It was wonderful to see that Dirk and Isobel were in this story as much as they were, they are such an integral part of it. Isobel had me in stitches when she was intentionally trying to scandalize Seona. Those two have the funniest conversations. Keegan is a strong and fascinating hero that demands your attention, and Seona is wonderful and kind heroine, deserving of her happily ever after. Keegan and Seona are a lovestory to remember.
Honestly, when reading this book I found myself skimming a lot at the beginning cuz it's quite so slow in some parts. But in the middle of this book has some progress such as more character development, unanswered questions, and tie-ins to the previous parts. It was worth the price, so I definitely recommend this book if you love Highlander theme as your reads.
Lady Seona Murray is fiercely protective and beautiful strikes a cord withing the fearsome guard Keehan MacKay. A love which is growing between them will be challenged family, outlaws, and others. Will the overcome all? Found a new author, couldn't put this story down, Seeking out other titles. Found they are on e book, which I don't purchase.
This was a very enjoyable story! I love the way that Seona and Keegan care for each other. There is a lovely layer of romance within this story even though evil is always lurking nearby! It is well written because the reader does not know how they can have a happy ending when the odds are stacked against them! Brilliant!
Like the first books in this series, Seona's and Keegan's story is an excellent blend of forbidden romance and intrigue, with the Highlands as a backdrop. She weaves a great tale.
My Daring Highlander - Author Vonda Sinclair The Highland Adventure Series - Book Four
Author Vonda Sinclair has outdone herself with her Highland Adventure Series. My Daring Highlander is another hit for this author. I loved every moment of this suspenseful, action packed, thrilling love story. This is Keegan & Seona's love story. Keegan is Chief Dirk MacKay's cousin and closer than a brother to Dirk. Keegan is a tall, brawny, tawny haired warrior who meets Lady Seona Murray during her stay at Dunnakiel Castle. As the two share glances at one another from across the room, an attraction and desire begins to bloom. As these stolen glances and few words between them continue throughout the winter, they cannot deny their attraction to one another and with one stolen kiss, love takes hold in their hearts. Unfortunately, Lady Seona knows her father will never find Keegan worthy enough to marry his daughter, and fears her father's wrath if she allows her feelings for Keegan to become known. One thing is clear, Lady Seona must return home, but is thrilled to know Keegan, Dirk and Isobel will be going with her to the lowlands. Keegan realizes early on, he is in love with Seona but neither of them could possibly imagine the depths in which their love will be challenged on this journey, nor the deceitful, brutal steps Seona's father will take to prevent a match between a mere guard and his eldest daughter. Author Vonda Sinclair takes the reader on another adventurous journey, across Scotland and into a story of love so true and pure, she captures your heart with every word. For Keegan and Seona, their love must prove to one and all that true love can conquer all, no matter the risk or the cost, they love one another too much to back down, they must face the challenges together and draw strength from one another in order to find their happy ending in each other's arms. The Author's lavish and vivid descriptions of scenery must come from a true love of Scotland. Every sunset, every mountain, the bluebells and even thorny bushes are described in such beautiful detail, you see with absolute clarity the landscape and go along this journey with the characters as they navigate mountain passes, winding trails and gaze at the changing colors in the sky. An absolutely lovely story with enticing characters and magnificently written. This is a must read.

Maybe the fact that Haldane somehow manages to run away time and time again? For goodness sake, kill him already! I felt like his role is being dragged on far too long. I'm currently reading the next book in the Highland Adventure series, My Notorious Highlander, and spoiler alert. His character is getting dragged out for way too long. I feel like he's being kept alive to give the author something to write about in the series. Please come up with something else, Vonda. I'm dying here.
Aside from Haldane escaping every. Single. Time. I hated the abundant use of the word bastard. I know that's random and nit-picky, but it drove me nuts. The word itself doesn't bother me. It's just how many times it kept being used in the book that it started to get old fast. Every time Haldane escaped, the constant insult thrown at him was the word bastard. Honestly. Go back and check how many times that insult was thrown out. Maybe I'm exaggerating but I really wished Vonda had been more creative with words.
Then there's Seona.
STOP BLUSHING. Overly shy people make me roll my eyes. She gradually grew a backbone 3/4 of the way into the book. By then I was skimming like crazy. I was getting really bored with the book and there was so much unnecessary detail. There would be super long passages simply of what a character was thinking and there would be no dialogue for a while. I don't need to delve that deep into someone's head. Done right, I might have enjoyed it. But in this case, it felt dragged out so my eyes glazed over and I moved right along.
I guess if you wanted a cute happily ever after, this would be the book for you. Everything felt too coincidentally perfect in the end. All the bad pieces went away and everything that needed to work out simply clicked together. It was all rushed into the last few chapters too so it felt too coincidental for me. Essentially too perfect with a bow tie neatly arranged on top. Sadly, just not my style. ["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
This is a good Highlander romance. It gets 4 stars from me.
Keegan was an absolute sweetheart, and was so good to Seona. He knew that her father probably wouldn't let him marry her, but he still protected her and cared for her anyway. He saved her life a number of times, risking his own life for her, even though he knew they might never be able to marry.
I liked Seona, and thought it was sad how badly her father treated her. But I loved it when Keegan and his friends found a way to rescue her and her sister from her father. I won't give spoilers, but the way they got married was so very sweet and romantic.
I liked that Keegan, his clan, and his friends willingly risked their lives a number of times to protect Seona and her sister. In all of the books in this series, the protectiveness of the male characters is one of the things I have liked most about them. They are always willing to rescue anyone in danger, especially vulnerable women.
It bothered me that the bad guys in this story were just so thoroughly evil. They had absolutely no redeeming qualities at all. Seona's father was just awful!
My rating system is below. 1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it. 2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws. 3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating. 4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one. 5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
Audiobook Review: Ms. Sinclair entranced me with this wonderful series, narrated by Dave Gillies. As I continue the series, it’s like coming home to good friends.
Dave Gillies narration captivates the feeling and emotion the characters are experiencing, particularly with his expertise and skill of internal dialogue. Additionally, it’s remarkable how very feminine the women’s voices are, including their internal dialogue.
Keegan, the hero of this book, is a great friend to Dirk, the new chief of his clan. To be a chief certainly doesn’t keep one safe. But Keegan, a very able and honest man, was there to protect him. His protective streak extended to Dirk’s wife and ultimately to the lovely Lady Seona, Dirk’s wife’s sister. Keegan was a very decisive man and when his mind was fixed, nothing swerved it. Lady Seona held is heart from the first. She had to be his.
Lady Seona, on the other hand, deals with a very heavy-handed father, ready to marry her off to the best titled man and is very logical in his thinking, but quite conniving. In all her innocence, Lady Seona had a very carnal appetite and a curiosity which knew no bounds and a huge attraction to Keegan. This did not help Keegan keep his hands off her. He wanted to do the honorable thing by her. This, my reader, created a very hot, passionate story. (Delicious!)
The scenes were crisp, to the point, propelling the story forward. At one point, I remember stopping and just blinking!! Twists and turns at every front make the adventure most fascinating. What a lovely, delightful listen. I am SO ready for book 4!
WOW. Those 3 words are my review in sum. hehehe. Okay, lemme elaborate. Keegan, my dearest darling highlander, is like a breath of fresh air. Refreshing, alluring and MAY I HAVE SOME MORE, MOMMY? For such a big, braw laddie, he's not one to shy away from his feeling and, in fact, fully admits to them and I LOVE THAT! Some may say he's not the typical alpha male of highlander romances and they may be right but, methinks, that it takes more courage to own up to one's feelings than to hide them. And courageous indeed is what he is! He fights tooth and nail for Seona, who's not too bad btw. Seona was a wonderful complement to Keegan. Match made in highland heaven!
I think Keegan has to be my favourite hero so far in the Highland Adventure series. He's kind and gentle where Seona is concerned, and he is very tenacious, he's been in love with her for a long time and he's determined to marry her no matter what her mean, stubborn, father says. I didn't like Seona much until she showed a little backbone and went against her father's wishes, he was just out for himself and very abusive. I enjoyed this story, the characters had to come to terms with their feelings for each other and show a lot of courage to finally be together. A great love story with plenty of action and suspense.
I spent my week vacation relaxing and reading Vonda Sinclair’s entire Highland Adventure series :) I love how she writes her characters – she is able to weave depth, emotion, love, and despair masterfully throughout her books. She can also set up a great scene – I almost feel like I’m in Scotland, right in the middle of all the action.
Vonda’s books start out with action, and that easily draws me in. Sometimes when starting a new book, I am bored in the beginning, but this is definitely not the case with this author! If you’re on the fence about whether or not to read this book, go ahead and take a chance – you won’t regret it :)
My Darling Highlander is a sensual, exciting story. The characters are true-to-life. I enjoyed the portrayal of Keegan's toughness and alpha male attributes in contrast to Seona's delicate sweetness. Yet, Keegan had a soft, giving heart and Seona a resilience from defending herself and her sister from their tyrannical father. The love between Keegan and Seona overcame many dire obstacles. The plot is well-developed with action and conflict that kept me turning pages.
An enchanting Scottish romance! Love the narrator... Dave Gillies is a dream to listen to... I swoon every time he says "Lass." This one held my rapt attention from the first to the last with plenty of action. Things sure looked dismal for our hero and heroine ... the ending was awesome! I would listen to this one again. Yes, it's that good...
I will post a few fav quotes and my full review soon!
I read this for a judging contest and it is a new-to-me author. I enjoyed it but had a difficult time with the hero's rather feminine-sounding name. I researched it and it means "fiery heart" which is appropriate for a Scottish warrior. I don't usually read medieval historicals and don't prefer Scottish romances but this is a well-written and adventurous romance.
I received a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review. Another great book by Vonda that is brilliantly read by Dave Gillies. Gotta say I'm a fan of Scots and listening to a great book read by one is awesome. Vonda and Dave have a wonderful way of drawing you in and keeping your attention. I will definitely be listening to more of Dave, especially if it's a book by Vonda.
Another wonderful Scottish Romance! Vonda Sinclair never disappoints! Keegan and Seona are beautiful characters full of passion that you'll fall in love with. Can't wait until the next in this excellent series!
These books can be read as standalones. But why would you not just devour the whole series? The story continues from one to another, but there is plenty of explaining and backstory so you can just jump in anywhere. These highlander and their lasses are phenomenal!
I loved this book! It is the fourth in the series and the best. Sinclair effortlessly brings her characters from her previous book together making it seem as if you've read one long story.
