It's only business.

Until the ex-girlfriend of tabloid-proclaimed Romeo, Chad Harris, comes in. According to the ex, Chad is the worst Nancy has ever had the pleasure of manipulating. However, after their first encounter, Nancy isn't so sure.

Kelly Martin is an author and developmental editor who lives in a possibly haunted house in a small southern town. While she'd like to say paranormal things only happen to her at her home, it would be a lie, mainly because she searches them out in some of America's most haunted locations. Whether it is talking to the ghosts of Waverly Hills or the spirits of Thomas House Hotel, these events inevitably land in some of Kelly's books. Just wait until you read The Haunting of Micah Reed.

With this book, Love in the 80s definitely ended on a high note. When it comes to main characters in the story, it was an insta-love for me. One-sided, though, because they only had eyes for each other! Pff. So unfair!

I'm sorry, I'm so sorry to rate it so low, but I was very very mad at the end. I'm still mad. Like, what the fuck happened? What did I read? This was not the story I was looking for the end of this series. Again, I'm sorry.

The story, per sé, was not bad. This girl is the girl that takes you up in the revenge. Meaning that if you wanted to have revenge for an ex or something, she was the girl. Nancy was the "CEO" of Once Bitten and she paid some of her bills with that. When a girl, kind of a celebrity, comes to seek revenge for his ex, Chad Harris, who is the son of a Senator. She takes the job, because it means a lot of money. What she did not expect that the boy was going to be the right one for her, so she has to chose between follow the scheme or not.

You see, the story is a good one, but everything came crashing down in just one page! I couldn't believe it. I knew her scheme was going to come up and all, but he has a scheme too? The girl that was going to pay her had one too? And then, at the end... that was not an end! We are left like... what happened? It ended? I was left like there were some pages missing. That's why I am mad.

No matter how this story was, you should read the series. They are full of color and 80s stuff.

*** I reviewed an Advanced Review Copy voluntarily. The opinions expressed are solely my own and no one else's. ***

1989: Once Bitten, Twice Shy is a book by Kelly Martin about a college student named Nancy who runs a business quietly called Once Bitten. It's a revenge business of where girls who have been wronged by their boyfriends get in touch with her and pay her to get revenge on their ex boyfriends who hurt them. She's good at what she does but when she's approached by a client who wants her to get dirt on a guy who's a bit of celebrity things get a little complicated. She's warned not to fall for him but she quickly finds herself doing exactly that. But she has a job to do...money that she needs badly...will she be able to do it or will she fall and get played herself?

I wasn't really sure what to think of this book at first but as I read more into it I started to really like it. Nancy is an interesting character. She is keeping the business from her roommate but it turns out that everyone is keeping secrets in this book. You really can't fault Nancy for falling for Chad to be honest...he sounds basically perfect except for the whole sex tape thing. The twist in this story makes it really interesting and all in all it's a very enjoyable read. Short and sweet.

Once again, I was really torn about how to rate a book in this series. On one hand, it was interesting, definitely different from the other books, not to mention really funny at times. But on the other hand, I just... didn't feel anything between the two main heroes. It was like the author was telling me they like each other, but failed to actually show it.

I felt like the format was just way too short for the idea the author had, and I just didn't feel like they made such a connection (or any connection, to be honest) that it would warrant both of them getting over their bad beginning, and trying again with each other. I just didn't see what made Chad so different (not only from the articles and rumors, but also for the heroine in particular, that she suddenly fell for him), and the whole thing was just way too rushed, period.

In the end, despite the fact that I liked the idea and the originality (and it made me listen to Last Christmas again - yes, yes, I know, that's not the song the title comes from, but who cares? :D), I just couldn't bring myself to give it more than three stars.

You know the saying, nothing is ever what it seems. Nancy runs a quiet business, Once Bitten, where she gets revenge on the men who have scorned women. The business is discreet, quiet, and tame. Nancy might go on a date and set the guy up for a bit of embarrassment, or puts him in a sticky situation, nothing to raise too many eyebrows, just enough to make the scorned women happy and the man to feel a bit of regret. She uses this business to pay for college and stay afloat.

Some people might argue that I'm taking advantage of these poor souls in their state of weakness. I say, if they want to pay me, who am I to be their moral compass?

Nancy gets a call from a woman named Dana to help her get revenge on her ex. This time it's not a tame revenge the woman wants, she wants her ex to pay royally. In return Dana will pay Nancy enough money so she can finish out college.

I could retire on a beach with a drink and a cabana boy making my every dream come true.

The problem is, the man Nancy is hired to get revenge on is a celebrity playboy always in the tabloids. He's richer than sin, flaunts his money off, flaunts his good looks off.

"Did you notice that before or after you knocked me down?" I have yet to take his hand. I have yet to figure out what he's doing here.
"Before. I noticed your big brown eyes after I knocked you down."
Smooth, dude. Real smooth.

The book has so many hilarious one-liners that are notorious in Kelly Martin's novels.

My hair isn't as close to Heaven as Amy's, but I'm knocking on Heaven's door.

In the end we have a college girl just trying to get by in a business that leaves her thinking love isn't real. A job with a rich play boy who is too darn good looking for his own good. And a huge decision to make that could make or break a girl full of hope.

Revenge is supposed to be easy. This isn't easy. This is torture.

In the end we're left with a funny, moral-questioning, swoon worthy read. I fell in love with these characters and I'm positive you will too. I mean, come on, Chad Harris knows how to play the ladies.

He smiles slyly. "Not in the slightest, ma'am. I promise to be on my best behavior."

A fresh take on the romance short story. I absolutely loved this book. A fast, good read, that you will want to read in one sitting. (Word of advice: clear your schedule before you start!) My experience with this genre is that you're often left feeling like something was missing, but Kelly Martin manages to pack a lot into a short space. Treat yourself and spend a few hours in the world of the 1980s. Even if you weren't there to experience them first hand, Martin gives the reader a solid glimpse into the life of a young college student just trying to make it by when love throws a wrench into the mix.

Wow

Nancy is in her final year of college. She is trying to figure out how she will pay her final semesters. That is until a generous offer comes to get evidence of the Rome of the tabloid, Chad Harris, pushing drugs. But Nancy did the worst thing ever. She fell for her mark

A decent final story.
Revenge turned to love.
I liked how Nancy realised there might be two sides to a story, and unless he did something heinous, revenge dating, while lucrative, is cruel.
I liked Chad. He’s genuine and down to earth.
