The teenage years are hard enough, but living with an abusive parent, happiness seems almost impossible. Yaz and Loni are two sisters coming of age on the mean streets of Washington, DC. Yaz is determined to go to college and become a success, but her mother is hell bent on making her a statistic. Loni, the younger sister, is looking for love. She finds it in the most unexpected place and the consequences may be more than she is ready for.
Seventeen-year-old Cali is a lovable bad boy. His only concern is girls, good times, and the game. Life is good for him, and aside from his desire to eventually move out of his mother’s home, he sees no reason to change a thing… until he meets Yaz. She is everything he never knew he needed and he decides that he must have her. The fact that she has a boyfriend means nothing to this young man on a mission.
This was interesting, this makes me so ready for part 2. I swear I really hated Chris for how he did Loni. Can't believe that Muchie actually resulted to raping Yaz who couldn't have that choice to give it to the person she choose. I think part 2 we will see a different side of both sisters and I can't wait to tune in. Goodread
This book is about love no matter the age. Young girls falling in love with older boys and getting hurt. Loni was so intrigued with Chris she just didnt see what he was doing to her. How he kept making her look like a fool. Yaz decided that Cali was where she wanted to be. Yaz & Loni finally got from their mom cause she treated then so bad for him to end up hurt. Now they are right back with their mom being mistreated & everything. They finally get away for Chris & Cali to take care of them. Yaz is happy but Loni is not. She ends up losing her baby &/it's all Carmen fought. She is mad about Chris & have the baby beat out of Loni. Now Yacz & Loni are on their own cause Cali is gone also. Will they make it or will they y let all the bad stuff that's has happened make them forget about their dreams. Part 2 got to be even better considering what they have been through. Good book.
Why the characters have to be so young? It's too much when you have these kids below 15 and sex it's weird and a no go for me. I can see it being mentioned in the prologue before you jump into adulthood but I can't, full sex scene like it's okay it too much for me so i didn't make it far at all. Maybe it's okay and the ages do jump in the read but I'm done!
I just started reading this author and I began with her first series. This is by far my favorite. I can see her growth with each book I read. Yaz and Loni are two lost girls with no clear direction or guidance. This storyline is a true reflection of why so many young girls find what they believe to be love in all the wrong places and people.
Wow so Muchie doing it like that now.. Man I hope somebody catch him.. Poor Yaz, she should have never left by herself!! Loni needs to go after Carmen with everything she has because she is dead wrong for what she did!!!

This book was well written the character development was on point just thought the girls should have spent a little more time in the basement. And I want to know what the shell happen to Mya can't wait for part 2.. Great job Ebony Diamonds
Now this was a good read. It held my attention from the beginning until the end. I hope stuff gets better for the characters cuz they just can’t seem to catch a break. I got to go to book two to see what happens next. Awesome job!!
Wow!!! That ending..that ending... I'm so pissed off!! Like, where's the rest??.... I didn't want this book to end & i can't believe Muchie's disgusting ass!!!! As for Loni, Chris and Carmen...i was reaalllyy thrown for a loop. Chris is one smooth, slick talking, lying ass dude and Loni is a young girl who's trying to grow up fast. I felt so bad for her and Yaz, especially given the fact that their mom was a piece of work. Overall.... This was yet another 5 read from Ebony Diamonds.
These two sisters went thru it. There mom was no good and trifling, their dad was always there for them. Can't wait to read part 2 cause the ending left me like OMG!
This was a decent read but I would've given it a 3.5 star if 1/2 stars were permitted. I bought the entire series though, so I will be continuing to read them.
Okay first off I can't stand Loni and Yas sorry excuse for a mother! I love California's though he was EVERYTHING and he never pressured Yas for sex. Chris did Loni so wrong his grown ass should've been sleeping with a 14 year old he needs to be locked...Munchie is going to get his damn rapist! I hope California's doesn't have to do the whole 4 years also I hope Yas beat Raven's ass!
These girls cannot get a break. There mother was horrible. There dad died who loved them. Now the men in their lives had left them. Now with tragedy happening again I hope that Yaz is okay. On to Part 2
Yay and Loni were two sisters who had all the potential in the world. Even though they momma was ratchet as hell, they still kept a positive outlook on life. Their father loved them to pieces.
They were on a good path until Chris and Cali came on the scene.
