“Chandan hay yeh desh ki mati, tapobhumi har gram hay, har bala devi ki Pratima, bachcha bachcha Ram hay” (“The soil of this country is like sandalwood paste, every village is like sacred land, every woman is like a goddess idol and every child is like lord Rama.”) This definite biography of Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, a patriot, a great freedom fighter and the founding father of the RSS, will fill every reader’s heart with love for Bharat. After finishing this book, one would understand what selflessness and patriotism feels like. This great man dedicated all his life for his nation and the upliftment of the Hindu society and eradication of every type of discriminations under it. Born in the auspicious day of the Hindu new year, Keshav lost his parents at an early age and undergone the tortures and bulling of his drunkard elder brother. But due to this, he spent his childhood days mostly outside his house and by that he came to know about the crisis situation of his nation and the Hindu society. Then, author introduces his life as a great revolutionary freedom fighter and a Hindu organizer. This book mostly describes Dr. Hedgewar’s journeys to the various parts of this nation. Author broadly described Dr. Hedgewar’s relations with famous persons like Dr. Munje, Tilak, Gandhi, Veer Savarkar, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookerjee, Babasaheb Ambedkar and many more. Many people accuse that Doctor ji preferred the Bhagwa-Dhwaj and opposed the tri-color. But author described that he preferred the Bhagwa-Dhwaj before the AICC finalized the tricolor as the flag for the national movement and after the finalization, Doctor ji accepted the tricolor as the national flag. Author described how the swayamsevaks of RSS took part in the Satyagrahas by the Congress and the Bhagyanagar (Hyderabad) movement by the Hindu Mahasabha without involving the Sangh, as according the Doctor ji, political movements are temporary but social services are permanent. But the evil eyes of the British government fell upon the Sangh and it was tagged as ‘communal’. When the participation of government servicemen in RSS was banned by the Britishers, the Congressmen came to help the RSS. I am recommending this book to every patriotic Indian and if you want to know about RSS, then this book is a must read for you.
