A few of the things are left out that I'd have preferred to have stayed, especially from the Monster Burner, but on the whole this is a pretty good summary of both rules and advice for the Burning Wheel game. Very beautiful, too, some nice art and a great fancy binding.

The type of supplement I love - the Codex is filled with excellent stories and examples for anyone, not just interested in running Burning Wheel, but any TTRPG.

An excellent supplement for the Burning Wheel Gold RPG. The best part of the book is the advice that leads it off. The Burning Wheel HQ folks carefully go through the numerous systems in Burning Wheel and suggest how they're meant to be used and how their use can be improved. It's Burning Wheel gold!

The new magic systems that close things out are fine enough. Individual GMs and/or players will decide which are useful for their games, but generally they're well distinguished and evocative.

I bought this just to have and read.
It's beautiful and very well made. Embossed cover, lovely paper, the art is great.

I may never run a game with this system.... But I would love to.
I will keep going back to it and reading parts of it. There is a looooot of information in this book.

If you actually engage with what Burning Wheel is and why it does things the way it does it is almost perfect.

It is exactly as it wants to be.
It lays out the reasoning behind the basis and feeling of the game system....and executes it perfectly.

You'll need to be very invested in role playing and these sorts of games in general to engage with this system properly but it looks to me like it would be worth it.

This codex book in particular has a lot of value for running other TTRPGs. The sections on settings, beliefs and instincts, angagonists and characters. They're all very useful for creating characters in ANY system.

I'll get value out of this if I never run the game at all.

A wonderful set of additional material for Burning Wheel. After a gaming group has mastered the base rules, or at least played enough sessions to know it's something they want to do more of, there is a smorgasbord of wonderful optional add ons to choose from here.

Well-recommended for anyone that is playing or planning on playing this game.

This is an awesome addition to the original game. It is full of advice which sheds new light on the base version, plus adds more like magic systems. If you liked Burning Wheel, you'll love the Codex!!

What a nuanced gaming system with enriching commentary. While this system isn't a good fit for me, I find a lot of the contents incredibly interesting and valuable.

Very cool subject matter and excellent gaming advice for GMs, but somewhat hard to navigate around in because of its (very cool) conversational approach.

A nice supplement to the core Gold Edition, but limited in its usefulness due to my own lack of use for much of the games current supplementary systems. Though the instruction for the building beliefs should just be included in the normal game for how vital it really is.

I am sure this will improve over time as I return to it for more applicable wisdom.

The first half of this book is pretty much required to understand the game without the help of someone who already understands it. Commentary on different aspects of the rules greatly help to clarify concepts that would be difficult otherwise.

The second half presents a number of interesting magic system variations and additional lifepaths for character generation.

An almost essential companion to the Burning Wheel Gold book.

Great read. Takes the knowledge that was printed originally in the magic, adventure, and monster burner and expands on it. Updated to the new Gold standard of the rules making this information available to the new community members of the Burning Wheel.

Conversational style of the book makes it so you feel like you talking to the authors. Their passion for the product shines through the entirety of the book.

I would of liked a few more examples of what they were explaining and a little in depth explanation of writing beliefs, traits, and instincts.
