Aiden Wilson Tozer was an American evangelical pastor, speaker, writer, and editor. After coming to Christ at the age of seventeen, Tozer found his way into the Christian & Missionary Alliance denomination where he served for over forty years. In 1950, he was appointed by the denomination's General Council to be the editor of "The Alliance Witness" (now "Alliance Life").

Born into poverty in western Pennsylvania in 1897, Tozer died in May 1963 a self-educated man who had taught himself what he missed in high school and college due to his home situation. Though he wrote many books, two of them, "The Pursuit of God" and "The Knowledge of the Holy" are widely considered to be classics.

A.W. Tozer and his wife, Ada Cecelia Pfautz, had seven children, six boys and one girl.

My. This was more than a book, or series of 3 books as it were. This was a game changer. I started this a few months ago, but life was so busy, and I realized I couldn’t give these lessons the attention they deserved and required. So I just left it on my table, waiting to be less busy. Enter Covid-19 and the months long quarantine. My head and heart were a mess. This book took me to my knees with Jesus. By the time I was nearing the end of The Crucified Life, I was dedicating my life to the Lord in prayer that was totally new. And I’ve been a Christian for a long time. But these lessons hit different. Maybe it was timing. Maybe it was Tozer’s words. But I know without any doubt, that unless the Holy Spirit ordains it, it won’t happen. This precious time with the Lord was holy and ordained. Please, if you are going through reviews because you are thinking to read this. Pray. Pray first. Invite the Holy Spirit into every reading and every time of meditation. The Father longs to have an encounter with us. Prepare yourself for it.

Three timely classics! What Tozer was preaching up to the '60 is so relevant right now. The church as whole is struggling to make an impact. We (church) don't stand for what we say we believe. "He man is 'saved', but he is not hungry nor thirsty after God. In fact he is specifically taught to be satisfied and encouraged to be content with little." This quote from Pursuit of God is so true of our churches today. Christians aren't being taught to seek God or listen for His voice; it is about being entertained and what worship will do for me.

A perspective-shifting book for me. Read this book as I was deeply contemplating & re-considering Christianity - and it has proved to be extremely helpful for me as I came from a deeply charismatic background where I was taught that the prosperity gospel was the true gospel of Christ!

Tozer is an author who doesn’t shy away from difficult topics. He is bold & honest in taking them head-on, and never hesitates to show us what the bible has to say about them. He unveils Christ & the gospel beautifully in this book, and challenges readers to search their souls & examine their hearts whether their lives and beliefs are indeed in line with the bible. Deeply convicting 3-books-in-1 book.

The Pursuit of God and the Crucified Life were my favourites in these three. I have read the Pursuit of God a long time ago and in a different season of my life and found it super helpful then as well. One of the great results of reading all three of these, this collection, is you get a true picture of the passion and heart of this ‘evangelical mystic’; Tozer’s desire for knowing, hearing and obeying God in a daily focus and singular passion of his life is a convicting outcome of reading for my life.

MUST.
READ.

"...and so begins the glorious pursuit - the infinite searches of the Godhead." - Pursuit of God

I thank God for AW Tozer and ANYTHING written by him - he is one of the most influential authors that I have read. This book is such an excellent resource in learning to grow in the pursuit of God. Tozer's reverence is contagious and I love this book. I will probably read this every single year.

typical Tozer….placing our minds on God…in an eloquent fashion

Tozer quote..

If we are ever going to see God in the fullness of His manifestation….. We must obey Him implicitly and surrender in such a way that
He can place us where He wants to place us
in order to show us what He wants to show us.
And what He does to us He will also do through us to confound the wisdom of the world, who cannot figure out what we are.

Not one to be sampled or speed-read!

There are in Christian literature those books that can be read once and then forgotten. Sir Francis Bacon wrote, “Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested: that is, some books are to be read only in parts, others to be read, but not curiously, and some few to be read wholly, and with diligence and attention.”
This is NOT one of those books. It deserves to be savoured over and over.

I read this book over the course of 3.5 years on and off. I want to reread it as a weekly study because there is so much wisdom in it. I feel like I could probably study this forever and still get more. Highly recommend!

If you want to learn more about God, highly recommend this read. It is a book you read only one chapter a day because it is too rich to consume quickly. Hope this blesses someone as it has blessed me.

Read, underline, combine all underlines after reading, and then study them all again. Needs to be a part of every Christian's library.

A.W. Tozer did an fabulous job of pointing to Christ, and that the only way to God is through His Son's death. Very grateful for Tozer's testimony and how God has used him. All Glory be to God!
