Dr. Dolittle can make kids’ dreams come true—the dream of talking to the dogs, cats, horses, ducks, and monkeys they love so much…and understanding what our furry friends have to say back. The magic begins as the kind physician discovers his special gift of communication—and switches from human to animal patients.

I'm actually reading the original version of this book. What fun. The characters (Gub-Gub in particular) are so fun and alive. Hugh Lofting does such a lovely job bringing it all to life - you want all the animals for your very own friends.
The story is simple and quick, but fun and exciting. Definitely something children would love and enjoy reading or having it read to them.

For pre-k children, this a a good book to use as a read aloud. The book will grab the children attention and allows them to use their imagination to think about different animals. I would use this book in the classroom to illustrate to children the different sounds of animals. In addition, a follow up activity can be used after reading the book, for example, draw and design your own animal.
