At the end of each chapter is a description of how Shine, the author’s Australian Cattle Dog, friend, and muse, demonstrates the concept and an Action Step for making the concept a living part of daily life. They are practical and, even more important, they can be fun. That combination sets this book apart from all others offering secrets for personal success, self-esteem, and the ability to help us grow as happy effective individuals, because these are things that readers will do. And they produce observable, measurable results almost immediately. While it’s suggested to read and practice one chapter a week, this book actually can be consumed in a couple hours. No matter how fast or slow you read it, however, it will change the way you see yourself for the better and produce benefits for the rest of your life.
I thought that this would be a lot of Pollyanna platitudes about how to make yourself into a better person. I was wrong. While I could do without the whimsical nature in which the author uses her dog to help demonstrate each chapter, there is some good advice in this book. Presented in very short chapters the information in this book along with the exercise at the end of each chapter can be used by anyone to help gain a different perspective on their life. We can all use reminders to smile more - because it will make us happier people. We can always choose kindness and to let go of needless stress. We should all want to be better people. This small volume outlines some methods to achieve that goal.
