Just got back from a weekend stay at a house in the redwoods along a beach. Among the books left out for renters was "Sketching: A Complete Kit for Art Enthusiasts", by Philip Berrill. Berrill published a number of art books, and I've only read this one, so I can't say if the art here is representative or not, but, wow, it was... pretty mediocre.
As an example, here's where Berrill demonstrated "some common mistakes" when drawing parts of the face, alongside "the correct way".
