Annie Szabo #1-2

The Annie Szabo Mystery Series Vol 1-2

Rate this book
An Amazon Bestseller with one of the most original detective duos in A freelance journalist and her Gypsy mother-in-law. “Fascinating Gypsy lore, unforgettable characters, and a wicked sense of humor!”— Publisher’s Weekly, starred review. Both books in this set were chosen by Library Journal as one of the TOP FIVE mysteries of the year. Go along for the ride! THE HUMMINGBIRD WIZARD This sexy, witty, suspenseful, and wildly original mystery paints the portrait of a vibrant family. When the Szabo women put their heads together, sometimes bending a few laws, balance and justice are restored . . . at least temporarily. Moving on with her life after the unexpected death of her husband, Annie Szabo and her grown daughter are settled in, and finally earning some real bucks. But when Annie’s oldest friend, Jerry, turns up dead, she is plunged back into the family—an outrageous clan of Gypsies—that she tried to leave behind. Suspecting murder, Annie must form an alliance with Madame Mina, her fortune-telling mother-in-law, the quirky heart of the Szabo family. Determined to catch Jerry’s killer, the two women—with the help of Annie’s daughter—unravel a tapestry wild with lawyers, kink, magic, threats, and theatrics. To catch the bad guy, three generations of women pull out all the stops, using ancient curses, a talent for petty theft, love magic, a strong sense of humor, flirtation, and their family bond which is much stronger than death. Rising from the mayhem is an extraordinary Gypsy man, the Hummingbird Wizard. Appearing in Annie’s life, and in her bed, he could prove to be the only person to bring the scattered pieces of the community, and Annie’s life, together. Or, he could tear it all apart forever in the wake of passion and revenge. “If you don’t fall in love with the Szabo’s you don’t have hormones!” – Kirkus "Blevins flavors her lively prose with frequent humor and unexpected twists. Readers will be drawn in by the riveting characters, great plot, and insights into Gypsy culture." –Library Journal, starred review, Best of Year, Genre Fiction THE VANISHED PRIESTESS Sexy, smart and fun, the feisty Szabo women join forces once again. Annie is the heroine who must walk a treacherous tightrope to save her home and family. Her audacious Gypsy mother-in-law, Madame Mina, uses cures and curses to cover Annie’s back. Engaging and exotic! “Over-the-big-top characters keep the plot spinning, and the mystery pays off with colorful atmosphere, eventful storytelling, and a dramatic finish.” – Mystery Scene The indomitable Annie Szabo has lost too many friends and loved ones, so the death of Margo Spanger hits hard. Margo, Annie's neighbor and close friend, was a cultural icon with money and fame—maybe too much . . . Margo used one of her projects, a New Age cirque, to fund a women's shelter. She is found dead on the property, and there’s not one clue about the killer’s identity. When Margo's partner, Lili, goes missing the day of Margo's death, the circus and shelter fall into disarray. It turns Annie's own world upside down, too—her daughter is a resident of the women's shelter and could become the next victim. Aided by an ex-cop and Mina's plant medicine, Annie uncovers Margo's past.

Love Annie

This series is wonderful. Characters are funny, quick witted and engaging. Laughed outloud several times. A very enjoyable way to spend a hit summer day!

I hope volume 2 is better. The Gypsy culture is an interesting and different feature, but this book, while well written seems forced and uncomfortable.
