Volume 3 in the ponyplay erotic romance trilogy: The Copper Horse

London
1907, twenty years into the zombie plague

Just as Reuben finally settles into the role of Copper, his master’s proud stallion, his life gets turned upside down by a revolution that has been long brewing in London. But the men who come for Erik at his home bring much more than havoc. They uncover lies that Erik has fed Reuben, and the truth creates a rift between them that might be impossible to cross.

Even if Reuben still wanted to be Erik’s pony, is it possible for them to be together if his master loses all power and property? With no harness to hold him, no bit to stop him from speaking, can Reuben still be what Erik wants? Does he have anything to offer as a man?

The relationship they have established gets shaken to its core, and on the run from Erik’s enemies, they will both have to find out if the bond they share will survive, or if it will break.

What can say about this series apart from it's just delicious. It's no secret I absolutely LOVE these Authors and I don't know why I waited so long to read these books.

Dystopian,Very Erotic,Extremely Kinky with two of the most loveable characters ever.

With The start of unrest very much evident at the end of book two,Erik finds himself betrayed and he and Reuben are forced to flee to London.
Reuben finds himself truly conflicted. He's just, happily, settled into his role as Erik's pony and now must adjust to being just a 'man'......will Erik still want him as much?
He's also forced to evaluate his feelings for Erik when he discovers Erik
has not been completely honest with him about his abduction.

In London Erik must put his trust in people he considers friends but are they really all they seem to be?
This one is definitely my favourite book in the series.I loved Reuben and Erik so much.I haven't read that many D/s books but the one problem I have with them is that I find them too clinical, with no emotions. It's not the case here.I could really feel the different emotions these two men felt for each other.

I've mentioned in reviews before for these Author's books that they create some of the best M/M couples and Erik and Reuben are, without doubt, number two......(Dom and Seth will always be number one )

I've read this series virtually back to back and have absolutely loved it.

⭐ 5 "got into this for the dark ponyplay erotica, stayed for the surprisingly complex characters and tentative relationship development" stars ⭐

A drawing of how I pictured Erik Dal aka Bluefinger (HD-ish version here), the love interest and Reuben/Copper’s master. Because you know the series left an impact when I had to pause mid-read to sketch one of the MCs lol.

🚨Non-spoilery review will be for the entire trilogy, rather than the last book (which is this one)🚨

And one last WARNING: this is a dark and taboo one, so the review will also touch on topics that might be sensitive to some. Proceed with caution.

**********

Starting off, this series and my love for it was probably one of my biggest surprises as a reader as of late. I still don't think I'm into ponyplay myself (the “google research" I conducted just irked me out more than anything), yet these duo of writers managed to make me so invested in the setting and characters that I... simply stopped caring. The Merikans, I'm now convinced, could sell me on anything by putting it down on page. Hell, I’d buy car insurance from them and I don’t even own a car!

description
Just take all of my money as long as you keep writing, ladies!

Plus, the well-executed smut and how the role play factored into the character progression… let's say that also helped lol. This is very much capital E erotica, and the authors don’t shy away from the kink or pull any punches. You’re getting the full ponyplay experience here, that's for sure.

Beyond the glorious plethora of steam, however, it was the wonderful journey of the protagonist, Reuben, that had me completely enraptured. Reuben went through quite a transformation here, both physical and mental, and seeing him slowly shed his insecurities and fear was one of the highlights for me as a reader.

He started off as being a poor baker with not many friends or people who appreciated him. He was someone who, in the beginning, had actually internalized the homophobia of his environment and was therefore drowning in a resulting combination of guilt and shame. Abused and berated, both by his father and the world as a whole, Reuben was someone who just couldn't afford to be himself or ever embrace his true desires…

Not until Erik, at least.

description
Who by the way had me doing so many 180 from love to hate to love again that I almost started needing a neckbrace.

Since it wasn't until he was taken (quite literally) and forced into the role of his "prized stallion Copper" by Erik Dal, aka the infamous forger Bluefinger, that Reuben could finally let go. It was when stripped of choice, and therefore any perceived guilt that his decision might bring him, that Reuben could finally accept something he had never dared to dream for himself before. Not freedom of body, but of mind and heart.

Nonetheless, it would be a disservice for me not to point out that this isn't what most sane people would consider a healthy romance. Obviously. Because without autonomy, even if the "indebted" party ends up deciding it's the ideal setting for them, there will never be true consent. And the story starts very much in the non-con camp the first time Erik makes Reuben submit.

Yet, it's also as the series progresses that you start realizing that Reuben/Copper is actually the one singing the tune both of them follow. It turns out to be the slave turned "horse", ironically enough, who manages to skillfully tug Erik’s strings and heart in the end. Under the promise of a love and tenderness the other man rarely ever experienced before, their true dynamic flourishes.

And I, for once, loved every second of watching that happen.

**********

Final thoughts, though?

Well, as a whole I would say the trilogy is a fantastic exploration of some deeper meanings. You get plentiful smut, yet it was the messed up relationship between the leads and the muddled feelings creeping underneath which truly kept my rapt attention. And kept me coming back despite starting this series as a sort of gag read.

Because I got into this expecting only smut and kink. Thinking I was just gonna read one little book and be done….

description

But I have zero regrets. And if none of the things I discussed above makes you squeamish, this a definitive recommendation from me!

Continuing in the timeline without interruption, Reuben Wark and Erik Dal are on the run and must learn how to adapt in their new status. Though they each bring certain skills of survival, Eric deems it his duty to take care of his prized charge. While trying to stay hidden, they find shelter and continue to strengthen the bond of Master and pony.

“Reuben swallowed and glanced into Erik’s eyes. “Sometimes,” he started carefully, “it’s good to start anew. To become your new self.”

Together, Copper and Erik are quite charming together at times in their devotion. Even with Erik’s hurtful omissions and lawless actions, Reuben only has eyes for Erik and finds purpose in his servitude. After reading Pride, I thought it was going to be hard for these authors to top certain role-play scenes, but they certainly did so. This particular scene that happened to also include Lord Satan will be forever etched in my mind.

“Come on, Copper, relax, let me in like a good boy. You can clench your ass all you want once I’m inside.”

Getting immersed in this storyline is effortless as Rueben and Erik are such intriguing characters. I continually rooted for Reuben and hoped he would find complete satisfaction and acceptance in Copper’s role. As for Erik, he is quite capable and I liked how he doesn’t apologize for his affinity for kinkery. Closing out this trilogy, the end felt a tad abrupt considering the lead-in, but I enjoyed the journey.

Love will appeal to those looking for an erotic and character driven story.

Erik and Reuben are amazing! I just wish there was more of them. They were on the run in this one and didn’t have a lot of time for intimacy. 😞 This one was way toned down from the first two.

What I like about Kat and Agnes is that most of their books have a story, they tell you it's a sex fest, a kink fest or whatever but behind the couple and the sex there is something going on.
If you pay attention in their sex and mayhem series you might catch some plot points that are shared between books so is not just a bunch kinky stories.

That's what I liked about this last book, it wasn't more Blue finger and Copper and their play but a growing of the story and the characters. you get to see whats going on with the cities, London and Bylondon and what their long term plan is for the zombie plague. That plot wasn't just background, it is adressed and I think that really cool.

Something happens that makes Erik flee his home he only survives with the help of Reuben, not copper but Reuben. This events led to Reuben to find out that the reasons why he ended up in Eriks care were Eriks doing since the beginning and that shatters the trust that was building between them, the problem is they don't have the time to deal with it because they have to run for their lives.

They realize who are their friends and who would sell them. We see the bloodthirsty side of Erik and we see that he actually cares for Reuben, he protects him and he realizes that Reuben wants him for him and not for what Erik has. That was beautiful to watch.
In the end they both do things that prove they are everything for eachother and thanks the unicorn gods everything works out for them.

I'm happy I read these books because they were definitely out of my comfort zone and it was a nice new experience. I read things that are gonna be hard to forget but in the end I like Reuben and Erik's HEA and I applaud Kat and Agnes for having the creativity to write these crazy stories.

The tale comes to a surprising conclusion

I'm still not sure if I've enjoyed this trilogy, it's not the usual style for me, I'm not really a fan of alternative history, much preferring more traditional fantasy.

I'm also not really sure if I can get my head around the mindset of pony play, or puppy play for that matter, but I will say, this pair of authors know how to beautifully craft their worlds.

ETA: Me here in March 2017 commenting again regarding this series. I've reread it subsequently and have to say that my ratings have all gone up a star. The pony play element of this really does work and puppy play has become (in the last 12 months after much more reading of it) a particular favourite kink of mine now.

The bloody zombies though, you can still keep them!

What a unique series this was. Set in the early 1900's London area, 20 years into a zombie plague, the story follows Reuban, the poor son of an abusive alcoholic father as he is abducted and forced into a non-consensual kink-based relationship. Reuban has extreme internalized homophobia and is not the brightest crayon in the box. An interesting read if the focus on pony play isn't a deterrent.

The first book reminded me so much of Adara Wolf and the Under His Heel series. The core of the story is the same even if all details are completely different.

I wish their were more zombies! They were not a huge part of the series.

This was one wild ride! The Copper Horse: Love is the third and last installment in the series, and my personal favorite.
"The world he’d lived in with Erik had been as much of a myth as the unicorn itself."

When K.A.Merikan characters are on the run, you 're in for a treat. The revolution that has been brewing in London now reaches its peak, and it's the beginning of Erik and Reuben's adventure. Together they must run and hide, not only from the authorities, and untrustworthy friends, but from the zombies too! And they have to do so, without getting torn apart by new secrets about Erik's past.

Reuben really shines in this book! The tables turned and, for once, Erik must put his trust in Reuben's hands. The most important and interesting thing is that although the context changed, Reuben hasn't. The comfort of Erik's mansion is gone. So is the delicious food cooked by Mr Fry, and the soft hay that Copper slept on in the stables. Copper is not the pampered pony anymore. But you know what? He is still Erik's devoted stallion. Not because he has to be, but because he wants to.
“I don’t know how to be without you.” Reuben kept his eyes on Erik, utterly lost. “I should hate you for the way you scrunched up my life like an old rag, but I can’t. You gave me a new meaning.”

I absolutely love the world that the authors built, and I believe that there's a lot more of it to see. Same goes for the secondary cast. There are very interesting and unique supporting characters, like Lord Satan, Coal, Deverell, or even Lady Vera and Madeline. I loved their little quirky group that provided safety and room for someone to explore alternative sexual lifestyles.

The conclusion of the story was one I didn't see coming, but left me very pleasantly surprised. The amazing epilogue a few years down the road, was just the cherry on top.

My only niggle, if you can call it that, is that I didn't get Erik's POV. I just wanted in that crazy fucker's head, just for once (if you don't count that brief opening scene in The Copper Horse: Pride). That said, I believe that Reuben is a very reliable narrator. It is obvious that Erik loves Reuben to death, and he's still in awe that he found someone so compatible with him.

Overall, this is a special, unique series. Highly recommended for those who are looking for something different, sexy and kinky. If you like zombies, steampunk, or ponyplay (or all these three together), you 're going to love this!

Reuben + Erik = LOVE

This has been one of my favorite series in the past few years. My one regret was that I didn't do a reread of the two earlier books (Fear, Pride) before I jumped this last one. There was roughly a year between the books and I had lost some of the momentum created by the cliffhanger at the end of book two. That said, Imwas more than thrilled to be in the company of Erik and Reuben again and to finally witness their happy ending.

Ele wrote a gorgeous review, I suggest to take a look at it. I believe she read the series almost at a row and definitely enjoyed it a ton.

Erik, the Bluefinger. I can't get enough of him. In this last book of the series, he commits a cruesome act towards his close family member that made me stop and really think. He is a sick bastard, almost a psychopath maybe. But he is what he is because of his past and who can blame him? After the sudden act of violence the transition to Pony play with Coal and Alexander felt a bit too fast to me. I wanted to dwell on Erik's psyche a bit more from the Reuben's point of view. Since Reuben is in love with him even if the world was crumbling down on them, I wanted to linger a bit longer in that moment of violence as it seemed really significant even as Erik acted all cool and swift about it.

The pacing was faster than in the two first books, more outside action and political foulplay. Erik and Reuben on the run instead at home in their safety playing. Their close escape in the beginning set the pace for the rest of the story.

When Erik and Reuben were the outlawsm on the run they encountered both old friends and wolfs in sheep's clothing (not in a sexual play kind of way). In the end they could only trust the real bond that was created between themselves, their love. Erik's need to keep Reuben safe was so obvious compared to the previous books where his acts seemed more ambivalent that Reuben was lost. Now I see love in him, that I can trust as a reader too.

The love doesn't make Erik any softer. He still has his edge. He is deeply damaged by his past; it reflects on how he has dealt with his Ponies before Reuben (and with Reuben in the beginning too). It can be seen in his connection to his family; no love lost there. He is ruthless and hard.

Yet, we get to see another kind of Erik through Reuben's eyes. Reuben's position has changed too, which affects on how he sees his former master. They are more eguals now, but Reuben's submission comes from fee will now instead of dubious mindset. Reuben can see the vulnerability in Erik. When they escape the Zombies Erik's naked, small body makes it even more visible to Reuben.

All and all, Erik the Bluefinger is my favorite kind of antihero. He is supersexy, dangerous to the boot, like the sharpest knife in the box of blades. Reuben makes a perfect partner for him in life.

The ending with the epilogue is such a sweet treat.

So how to rate this? I loved it a ton, but felt it lacked some of the intimacy from the two prior books as the action and politics took more space. But it was a needed development to wrap things up. Sigh. Going with my gut, I'm settling with four stars.

It was wonderful to see Copper again! I can't believe how much Reuben has grown from book 1 to book 3. He's stronger. Mentally and physically and he's not afraid to admit what he wants and needs.

This book stressed me out from the start. Uprising = Nail-biting!! The worry about where to go and who to trust kept me on the edge of my seat. I can't imagine being thrown out of my home naked and into a zombiefest.

We knew Reuben love Erik but it was so nice to see the feeling truly reciprocated here. Both men were will to put themselves in a terrible position to save the other. I loved how it ended a few years later and just how it was supposed to.

I’m not sure how I missed this last installment but of course I loved it ! This was a lot more challenging for Erik & Copper, after being hunted and chased, but it was great to have them both revisit other characters that played a part in earlier books. There is no doubt that these two are perfect for each other... I’m glad they’re happily kinky together ❤️

This was a trip and I’m not even sure if I enjoyed it or if the experience of buddy reads kept me going.

Regardless I’m enjoying exploring Merikan’s historical romance catalog. I don’t think anything will reach the heights of Dig Two Graves and this is an earlier work but it does have that bonkers Merikan touch I’ve come to love.

Spoilers may follow, so read at your own risk -

Boy, what a let down.
Despite not being into pony-play, or BDSM in general, I quite enjoyed the two first installments of The Copper Horse and was really looking forward to reading the last, where the stakes were supposed to be higher but rewarding.

The authors tried interjecting plot and for me they failed. We start off right where the previous book ended . I kept expecting things to pick up, but the pair just went from one location to another without much development. . Then I started the last chapter (without realizing it was the last because I was reading the compiled version), thinking this is it! Surely, the action was gonna start finally. But alas, we went straight to epilogue.

Another aspect I didn't like was how .
Then there was the whole thing of Reuben trying to convince himself, and by extension us the readers, that he was normal. That his relationship with Erik was normal.
Regardless of whether you think it was or wasn't, this aspect to his thoughts was tedious to read.

.
I feel cheated, tbh. There was a great opportunity for plotting and intrigue, but there was none.
Even the previous books, which focused on pony-play, gave us so much more in terms of plot and development, so I don't see why this book ended being such a let down.

I think this was a rush job to satisfy the demanding fans, but I definitely wouldn't have minded waiting another year or more if it meant getting something that was actually enjoyable.

I guess there is a certain freedom in submitting to these fabulous authors! You know there will be pain ( aka the bad times or the unfortunate events that the characters have to go through) but there is the promise of pleasure (aka the sweet moments and Reuben and Erik's growth of love) also. You know you can't avoid either so you just have to let go and trust the authors that they will offer you the best of times and unforgetable experiences!
I have read many m/m and f/m books on BDSM but this is the first time I have grasped the true meaning of submission and trust! There are many moments in those three books that make you cringe, grind your teeth or rip your hair apart but, ultimately, you just have to trust the characters will go through whatever and get their HEA.
I had conflicting feelings regarding Ruben who is a young baker living with his father in the slums of a Victorian zombie-infested London. Though he is a bit sweet and doesn't have many skills (except catching rats in the sewers), he is not very smart, as others keep saying! Besides, he has been physically and verbally abused by his father since childhood. Well, i don't imagine in such times in which survival was essential, people were not really family oriented or too kind to each other! And, on top of that, he likes men although he hardly admits to himself those natural needs! He ends up being sold to a famous but gangerously powerful rich man, Erik Dal. What I liked most about these moments was Reuben's sweetness and his simplicity despite the fact that he didn't understand what was happening to him. Above everything that Erik does to him and treats him, his final thoughts are about food, which made me think how for granted we take food these days. As long as he is well fed, clean and warm, he is comforted. Only later, close to the end of the second book , will he admit aloud that he, in fact, enjoys men and the games of submission! I guess it's , in fact, his simplicity which allows him to let the others make sexual choices. On the other hand, I would have liked to see him a bit more assertive in his interactions with Erik. There are times when he doesn't know how to behave outside the d/s relation with Erik.

Since this happens in victorian times, I also liked that the sexual acts are not really named (such as fisting), which also conveys a certain innocence, which is exactly what characterizes Reuben. A bit naive, simple, submissive ( throughout the book he is viewed as weak, though), never knew love or heard kind words.
I also loved Erik. Both prologues from Fear and Pride show the important moments that lead to Erik being cold hearted, distant, not trusting his pony (as the last one betrayed him in the worst possible way). Erik takes what he wants and he makes no excuses! He is over confident, short-tempered and a bit hot headed as Reuben is to find out on occasion of some punishments. But he will learn from Reuben what is love and loyalty in diferent times. If the two books were about "for better", Love is about "for worse". They are in this together, as Erik will find out!

Fear and Pride depict the sexual journey of Reuben, the road to not only finding his true self but also accepting himself, with Erik to guide him and protect him. Love, the third book, is the ultimate test meant to prove the realness of their feelings and secure the role (or place) in each other's lives. Erik will lose his support, enemies will throw them to zombies, family will be torn apart, Reuben and Erik will be on the run but they will stay together.
It was a bit daunting to realize they have few people to turn to for help and even fewer opportunities to get over the loss and rise again, hopefully stronger. However, they will come up on top, eventually!

I consider myself submissively enlightened after reading the books. Abandon and trust in the authors' extraordinary narrative skills is the only way to enjoy such outstanding writing!

Amazing!!! This series had everything I liked, all the best tropes, all the heat.. copper is the best horse for us.. I felt like the plot was wrapped up nicely and everyone that I thought needed to “go away” got put away… unfff, just thinking of the scenes - these boys will be in my head for a long long time. It’ll take a lot for another pet play book to knock this off the it’s throne.

So, I'm finally done with the series. Well, there is that one short featuring Jack which I still have to read but otherwise, I'm done.

A lot of my issues with the book had to do with pacing and that meant that the plot gave way at weird times in the story. This one was similar to the last one in terms of pacing. The initial 3/4ths of the book was action-packed and there was a LOT happening and it was all very captivating and interesting that I read almost half the book in one go but then just before the end which is when you expect things to pick up and not slow down the book kind of peters out.

The plot similarly held so much hope in the beginning and it felt like things could go in so many different ways but the lull in the plot made the resolution rather lackluster.

The aspect of this book where things really come together is the relationship between Reuben and Erik. All things considered, they manage to build a healthy relationship that seems to have strengthened in the face of adversities though for a moment there, things were looking very dicey.

This book was also a little less steamy than the others but it had some good kinky moments and other rather unexpected stuff happening that made the book enjoyable.

This series explores a highly unconventional relationship and the focus of the series is on testing that relationship to see if it will survive especially in the face of drastic changes. Overall, I'm pleased with the story and this is a must-read if you are a connoisseur of kink because I'm fairly conversant with kink and still the scenes in this series managed to surprise me at many turns.

what happened?
This felt rushed
They felt disconnected from each other
Yes I know he was questioning his role as man/lover/pony but he still loved Eric
Not a happy reader 😞

Great finale to the series.

Content warnings include:

The Copper Horse: Love takes the plot of the series one step further and escalates the events that have been hinted at vaguely since the very first book. While there are some twists and turns as the life of the protagonists becomes chaotic and unrooted, the plot is still rather light and doesn't turn too deep.
While some things that were hinted turned into nothing, others were neatly resolved which I found very satisfying.
Still, the ultimate climax is rather anticlimatic and not really a climax at all to be honest.

The book was still fun to read.
Reuben and Erik's relationship develops further. In book2 Reuben grew into his role as Erik's pony, and now it goes beyond that, at what lies between them when tack, hooves and crops are taken away. I ultimately liked how things developed, though I wish there had been more definite conversations and moments between Reuben and Erik as men.

What I really enjoyed was the complex conversations about kink and community. At Erik's party in The Copper Horse: Pride, we meet Lady Vera, who gets paid my men who want to become her dogs, and Lord Satan, a sadist who treats his pigs brutally. Especially Lord Satan made me queasy, but it turns out that his pigs also pay him for the privilege of being treated that way by him. They are also all queer and talk about that as well.

Overall a mostly satisfactory conclusion to this.... interesting series.
There were just two side things I wish had been resolved

K.A Merikan never disappoint.
I really enjoyed this ending to The Copper Horse Series.
This book was not as kinky as the previous ones but there was a lot of emotional development between Reuben and Erik which was so much better and wrapped up their story well.

Excellent final book in this trilogy.
The series literally captivated my attention and I read all 3 books within 5 days. I'm happy that Copper and Erik made it through the trials and tribulations and finally got the HEA they deserved.

Who knew Pony Play could be so fascinating!

Very well done ladies!

Not supporting rape

Well it was going on so well. And some things were just too much on me but I like to keep open mind and try forget my emotions and feel the ones the author wants me to feel. So when the guy does something I don't care about but our hero is angry about it I am angry about it too. But there was a scene that just did not convince me that he rly wanted that. It felt like the worst thing getting castrated and he would just say. Master wants this. And he would cry and sob but master wants this and I'm his pet so it's okay, and then he imidietly gets raped after being "castrated". And he is still kinda sobbing, choking on cock, but master wants this and I'm just a horse and I will be the Sweetest gelding ever. And blah blah. It evoked fear in me and brokenness. Like when smn is getting raped and he doesn't know what to do and is frightened to death and the rapist goes on: suck it! Choking the smn and the someone can't breath and suddenly he just starts sucking! And he sucks and sucks as much as he can. Because he is afraid he is gonna die otherwise. And that's how this scene felt to me. So I was like okay what will happen now? And the master laughed about it and laughed when the horse was like oh! I still have my balls! And master laughed more and the horse said : I liked our play, it made me happy :) :) and I was like wheeen? When did you feel kinda happy? There was not a moment of happiness in the scene. It killed all three books for me. The whole time I was like they both kinda enjoy it and he Reuben actually wanted lots of the things done to him punishments were harsh but I was expecting them. I was okay with them. And I was the whole three books like hey he feels good as a horse and he makes a beautiful horse and its all good. He likes to be horse so let him be horse. But that one scene with the castration it left me disgusted. Never once in the scene Copper says he wants to have his balls removed. Or that he wants to be just a hole for his master. Or some fantasy of his. His thoughts are kinda distorted and he is crying and sobbing but doing whatever his master wants. Like the raped person being so afraid sucking the rapist cock, swallowing and licking it all after u know. It suddenly turned their master horse happy relationship to rapist and victim. And I cannot support that. Even if I got to see that Erik rly loved Copper. There was not a moment for me to make it feel real. That he felt for Copper. The only time I felt it was in the first book when he listened to him sob thru the doors and looked heartbroken as Jack was saying. That felt like hey he may love him. And it made me read the rest of the Serie but I did not have any other moment like this.
I don't sue anyone's desires. But I don't support rape and Copper just seemed so much in the victim zone in the scene. :'( it broke my heart. Even tho I had some bad experience I like NC fantasies. This was something else. It felt like I was just standing there watching smn get raped and brutalised and couldn't do shit about it. So yeah I guess the author woke up some emotions in me in that scene.

I’ll start off by saying that if you haven’t tried this series yet, you are in for a treat.
K.A. Merikan do two things particularly well:
They can write such toe-curling filth that would make a gay sailor blush
&
They sure know how to create a fab fictitious universe (in this case a plagued steampunk London, a dystopia in the grips of a revolution. With zombies. Did I mention zombies?) that will leave unable to rein in your enthusiasm.
This series exemplifies both these things perfectly and once you’ve gone Merikan, many other stories may seem a bit bland.

If, like me, you have already dove into the series (including that evil cliffhanger of book 2), all the while counting down what felt as eternity waiting for book 3, let me set your mind at ease:

The Copper Horse: Love is a corker!

Picking up where things left off, we get a kick-in-the-teeth plot twist that changes the entire narrative of The Copper Horse series. It’s like the chess board has been set anew and the relationship between the MC’s undergoes a profound change as the world around them comes tumbling down.

 photo pony_zpsolfqwx53.jpg

Secrets come to light and the safety of Erik’s home turns out to be a mere illusion. No longer is Bluefinger the almighty master pulling the reins, nor is Reuben the slave who is forced to become Copper in order to survive. Both are on the lamb while danger rages around them and they are saddled with one another. The status quo has been shattered and the roles they have comfortably played are no longer valid.

There’s plenty of fast-paced action, political foul play and a distinct lack of friends they can rely on. With no chains and ownership to hold the two together, love is the only constant that can keep them alive. This is one twisted quirky love story with a ridiculously adorable happy ending and it was well worth the wait.

"No..." Reuban whined. "You don't understand what I feel for him. And if he's sick, then I'm sick too, because I love being his pony. I love it when you mount me and he watches, and I love to be his."

I finally finished this series! I think "The Copper Horse" will always have a special place in my heart. To be able to see Reuban's journey of self-discovery was so heart-warming. He started off as a boy so ashamed of who he was that he sought out angry, violent men so he could have sex with them and not feel responsible. Now, finally he's a proud man able to admit that he loves being a horse and he actually loves a man. Aptly named, this last book is definitely about love.
