This book deals with composing a painting or drawing. It was written about thirty years ago and it investigates the methodology of well known artists such as Norman Rockwell, Ben Shahn and others. Other paintings by the old masters are disected to show how certain of their pictures were constructed and what made them successful. The author comes from a realist tradition and has some unkind words to say about some modern artists like Picasso.

Not a bad book. Some good examples of classical works. But I would like to find a good book that works through from start to finish from the original idea to concept and completion. If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.
