Pompeii was originally founded by the Oscans upon abed of lava at the southern part of Vesuvius and on the banks of the river Sarno (then navigable), in the sixth century before the Christian era although some early writers say that it is obviously desirable to know exactly the origin of this very ancient city of Campania.
