Winter is white. Winter is cold. Winter is dark. Winter is bright. Winter is so many things, especially to a little one eagerly awaiting sledding, ice-skating, and other joys of the season. ""Winter is"" brings a child's anticipation of winter to life, with simple, evocative verse and delicate watercolor paintings of winter's wonders. A celebration of the many pleasures of the season, ""Winter is"" is a classic winter story for bedtime, or anytime a child may be dreaming of snowflakes.
A book about winter that felt original despite the abundance of books about winter. The illustrations are not usually my style, but I really love how they're done, and the colours are gorgeous!
On page one, two kids tell us "Winter is coming and I can't wait!" and then they share all the things they love to do in winter. They shovel snow off roofs, watch the Northern Lights, look for moose and owls at night, and sled down the snowy hills!
When spring finally comes and the sun melts the snow, the kids say "Summer is coming and I can't wait!" I really liked that part of the book, because it encourages a love for life in general, no matter the season or the weather!
This book is told in rhyme. The layout has it, so that one page has four lines in rhyme. On the adjacent page is a line that does not fit very well with the previous four lines. This bugged me.
