Marin Mersenne (1588-1648) was a Jesuit educated Minim monk remembered by historians of science primarily for his prodigious correspondence with such contemporaries as Hobbes, Pascal and Descartes. Mersenne did original work in mathematics, mechanics astronomy and acoustics.
