Excellent book! I was surprised with how this book drew me into the stories of the historical leaders who had a passion to learn and fight for freedom. At different points in this book, I had to stop reading and do a bit of research to learn more. My history teachers in school were not as skilled in bringing to life these great lessons on freedom as George Guzzardo. What a great teacher George is.
Through this book, I learned how much we need freedom fighters today and appreciate the lessons from each chapter to ponder (And apply). It is not enough to just read to gain knowledge, the work begins now. "Every person has something unique to contribute to the cause of liberty. What will you offer in service to the torch of freedom." Thank you George!!

This book is a treasure! Short capsule biographies and related stories that focus on the subject's contribution to the "torch of freedom."

I'm going to steal from Life CEO Chris Brady's review because I couldn't say it better! "George Guzzardo hass managed to compress what must be an enormous amount of research into a fun, fast-paced, and highly readable book." The chapters are short so you can read one or two in a short time and the stories are a facinating look into life during different times in the history of our world.

"...Guzzardo takes the reader through a near magic-carpet ride through the sweeping history of freedom." Starting in ancient Sumeria and traveling forward to modern times the stories reveal how important freedom is and how hard it is to keep!

"I learned a lot I didn't know, was reminded of much I should never forget, and was inspired to fight even harder to preserve the freedom that has been handed to me." I know that I was inspired and I think you will be as well!

"Thank you George, for this delightful book." Yes, abosolutely! This is history taught the way it should be, fun, inspiring, and just great story-telling, about the people that made history, and why. It should be required reading in schools everywhere, but it won't be!

Absolutely remarkable.

There is MORE knowledge/wisdom brought to the surface in the 278 pages ( inc. 'Blanks' that divide certain chapters from one another ) that what many folks learn in numerous different history classes.

Part 1 , 2 , & 3 [ in that order ] are my favorite sections -- I naturally have a preference for history further back in time chronologically.

The end of chapter "Lessons from ____________ ( fill in the blank with the name of the torchbearer from the chapter ) On How to Pass the Torch are all marked off with dog ears in my copy -- so MUCH to refer back to!

A 100% must read recommendation, here. Find this book & study it. You will not be disappointed for a minute in this decision.

Actually read this book way faster than I thought. This book was very engaging and also eye opening. I have always heard the importance of history and studying the classics but reading this has inspired me to actually follow through on getting those books and reading. There is so much history of many people given in this book that helps to open your eyes. Highly recommended.

A great book of short true stories tracing the path of the ideas of liberty stretching from ancient Sumeria, Greece and Rome all the way to Vietnam right into your hands. "What will we do with it?" George asks. Compelling, engaging, enjoyable. Easy to read bit by bit.

A wonderful author (and solid historian) tells numerous historical stories that 'connect the dots' of forming what eventually became our nation as we now know it. An easy read such that it should be accessible for all readers.

I love the way Guzzardo starts each short biography with some type of intriguing introduction to get the reader interested in the story. I wish this book would have been around when I was teaching history!
