Learn braille by sight. Dots are printed, not embossed so that a sighted person can easily learn braille to assist a visually impaired person. The type of braille in this book is called UEB (Unified English Braille) which is the international standard for English speaking countries. In this book, you will learn Grade 1 and Grade 2 braille, which is now known as uncontracted and contracted braille.
Whew braille is more complicated than I thought. What I *thought* I would be learning was finished on page 4 and then the book went on for 82 more pages 😅 It was much closer to learning ASCII than learning the alphabet. The author did a great job laying out the concepts clearly and simply. I really appreciated the example sentences in the Grade 1 section which built on the lessons already read and gave practical practice for the concepts. My only wish is that that example sentence pattern had continued into Grade 2, which seems the most useful for actually learning to read braille.
