So, start small and build slowly when trying to establish a new habit that you want to make permanent. Sounds fair and easy enough. But, some of the examples did more than border on ridiculous… particularly, if you want to develop the habit of flossing your teeth then start with just one tooth, and after a few days add one more tooth, etc., until eventually you are flossing all your teeth. Seriously? This is ridiculous. If you want to develop the habit of flossing your teeth then just do it and get it done. Other habit-building projects may make sense to break down to starting small and building step-by-step but be reasonable and sensible. Some of the advice in this book is such a joke that it’s almost funny. But, it’s more sad than funny. Floss one tooth. Come on. Recommend people from the hills who only have one tooth read this book. If you have all your teeth, not sure you’ll get much out of it. I purchased one of Damon’s books and read it. Thought it was OK and decided, since the books were inexpensive, to go ahead and purchase the rest of his books since the titles sounded like the type of self-help advice I could use. If I have to read of Parkinson’s Law in one more book I’m going to pass out from exhaustion. Give it a rest and find some new material.

The book main thesis is almost clear from the title. Small habits are mini, manageable actions that are easy enough to add to our daily routines but powerful enough to has a significant behavoiral change over time. This strategy is not new in the field of habit building (Atomic Habits, Mini Habits and other books mention it)

The author focused on making the book full of actionable steps, making it clear for the reader to follow up and move from text to practical actions. He also made sure the ideas and habits mentioned to be simple making it easy to catch on for anyone new to habit formation.

Something to consider when reading this book is a little bit of repitition might be redundant especially for someone who is already familiar with the habit formation concepts like the habit loop (Cue,Routine,Reward). It is also worth mentioning that while the book provides practical advice, it may not delve deeply into the psychological or neuroscientific underpinnings of habits.

As a final thought, The book is a straightforward guide for individuals looking to initiate change through small, consistent actions. It is best for people who are new to the habit formation topic. As for someone who is seeking in-depth exploration of the science behind habits I won't recommend this book. (Maybe read The Power of Habit)

You have to read this book, especially if you're interested in making any changes in your life. I have actually read this book twice so far, and will probably read it again in the future. It's just that good! It's also a quick, easy to understand read, so I don't ever feel as if I'm getting bogged down when I'm reading it.

I have absolutely used the 10 steps to change and add habits to my life, and I still use it everyday. Over time I have personally been able to completely revamp my morning routine, I'm finishing up the process of making changes to my afternoon habits, and I've already started thinking about how I can create small habit changes in the evenings. It works! There's not much else I can say.

This book is beyond a self-help book, it's an actionable guide to making changes in your life. There's a little bit of science explained to help you understand how or why it all works, but for the most part it's just straight forward steps on how to change your life through small changes in your everyday life.

You don't need New Year's Eve to make changes to your life. What you need is this book!

To be fair

My New Years resolution was to develop good habits. The author is exactly right with how to develop them. I have two or three basic knocks on the book. One, he referenced other parts of the book too much. In chapter 8 he would say he'd talk about it. Then in chapter 8 he would reference the previous chapter. Not a big deal.

I also felt I was reading the same thing multiple times.

Now, if I hadn't read what I consider one of the best books ever, about a month ago, this book would have been much better for me. So low rating for me, but I wouldn't say don't read it. It was a quick read, he's absolutely right with how to approach a new habit, and it was cheap.

It works!

I love Damon’s books. They are so easy to read with straightforward instructions on how to deal with common problems. I have already begun to use the small habit system and have more faith than ever that I will be able to stick to whatever habit I want to do in my life. I have always been a hostage of procrastination, laziness, and would always punish myself for not doing the most basic things. Now that I see them as habits rather than chores, tasks or things I have to do, it’s a lot easier for me to do things that before seemed impossible. Thanks Damon for giving me this key to a better life.

Small Habits Revolution: 10 Steps to Transform Your Life …. (Kindle Edition) [Kindle Unlimited] — Damon Zahariades (Foreword + 2 titled chapters + 3 titled sections) June 11-20, 2020

Another winner by this author! Very well written and there are good tips for even pro habit people.

The breakdown is the same as the other action guides: sets out goals, the organization for the guide, breaks down how to accomplish habits, gives personal experience, and then shows, step-by-step how to achieve those habits.

After the step-by-step, gives examples of applications to use to help with achieving the habits.

I tried some of the apps mentioned; Toggl is da bomb!

Four stars.

This book is simple & quick, but it offers a perspective on creating new habits that is so obvious I'd never thought of it before. I'm already incorporating some of the tips and techniques. I guess the proof will be in how well my new habits stick. But I LOVE the idea of starting so small you'll feel no resistance, and then building/growing from there. I really recommend this if you're into self-improvement and self-reflection.

What will really matter, in the long run, is how well these techniques hold up to the test of time.

POMH! (Power of Mini Habits)

One thing that really caught my attention here was the use of cues to trigger a new habit so that it connects with your subconscious naturally so eventually you don't have to think twice about it.. At the start of the year I spent a lot of time weeding out bad habits. Tools I've learned from this book are helping me to develop a little check list that will make my new habits "stick". I doubt I'm the only one reviewing goals set on January 1st, and checking to see if I am still on track. Very helpful tips and tricks here. Thanks!

It was ok - pretty enjoyable read. All the obvious things you think you know about forming habits, written out and clearly explained. It’s worth reading and will likely help implement healthy habits.

However, the book is superficial. He may claim it to be outside the scope but there was a failure to truly understand what gets in the way of forming new habits - such as the chaos of family life, the needs of others, one’s mental health, addictions etc. the list goes on. There’s space for a real feminist or relational theory critic.

Good tips on breaking down habit building into bite size pieces. I already employ many of the ideas in my daily schedule. I will be tweaking my day to include new habits I want to form, starting small instead of setting myself up for failure with a waterfall of humongous changes that I would never be able to keep up. A great last-book-of-the-year or first quarter book to hit the ground running for 2020.

Will use this book as my guideline to develop more new habits.

Very good book for those who procrastinate in developing new habits or goals to accomplish. I recommended it to my sons as well to my dad. I got into habbit of my yoga routine and back to reading books which I was missing for several years due to busyness. Now I understand the power of habits, habits which make you feel uncomfortable if you don't do them on a specific time.

How and why to start small

This is a short read but very useful for people who tend to create goals that are too tedious or overwhelming, therefore failing to turn their actions into life-improving habits. There are several examples and tricks, and very little information that can't be applied immediately to create virtually any habit you have want (limited scientific facts and fluff). This is my first book by this author and I plan to read more. Recommended 👍

This book is four years old and I read in this genre a lot, this could be why I felt as if there wasn’t a lot new for me to learn here. If you haven’t read all the people he seems to prolifically quote and borrow from then it might be more helpful. I was glad I got it at the library instead of buying it.

Great read

Helped me get on track with daily fitness and as well keeping on my toes with my dental care and as well keeping focused on goal setting. It only takes a small habit for change to happen. Little by little time after time you’ll eventually be in a routine where healthy living and good life making choices become NATURAL
