FITTING WORDS instructs students in the art of classical Rhetoric, providing them with tools of communication that will equip them for life. Intended for high school students and above, Fitting Words is a complete curriculum covering a year of instruction. In this course, students will learn the theory of using words well, study the greatest speeches of all time, and practice the skills of effective oratory.
The Fitting Words student textbook is a beautifully arranged hardback with single-column pages and wide margins. More than 100 original illustrations enliven the text with a classical and simple style that is pleasant to the eye. With 30 lessons arranged around the five canons of rhetoric, it also covers the six parts of a discourse, the three modes of persuasion, and much more. Scores of great speeches, ancient, modern and biblical, illustrate the concepts throughout the text, with 12 primary examples reproduced in full in the back of the text, along with an appendix identifying every speech in the Bible. This complete curriculum is packed with resources, while maintaining a clean and beautiful design.
I didn't read this as a student or teacher, so I can't give a helpful review or rating, but I read every word of it, and by gum I'm counting it! #editorproblems #notreallyaproblem! #somebodyremindmetoaddpicanddetails
This is my second time through this textbook; the first time I was a student, and now I’m a new and inexperienced teacher.
The technical aspects of this book are awesomely detailed and accurate, which is a great help to a lot of the rhetoric students who would rather not give a speech. The one thing that I believe could be better about the book is if it itself were a little more rhetorical. Nance’s writing does not have the sort of intensity that I think may help impress some of the importance behind concepts like ethos and pathos, though perhaps it shouldn’t.
Either way, I still highly recommend this rhetoric curriculum.
This man sexually abused a young high school girl (at least one) when he was a teacher at Logos School. He has never publicly taken responsibility for this. Surely there are better rhetoric books than that written by a pedophile.
