Readers of Nick Webb’s Legacy Fleet Trilogy met Abraham Haws as the Executive Officer of Captain Granger’s ISS Constitution, but there is an unspoken story lurking behind the scenes. Who was Commander Haws?

Vigilance follows Haws from his beginnings as the son of a war hero...to his tumultuous days in the Academy...to a mission where he risks everything...and ultimately to the infamous Khorsky Incident. Through it all, Abe Haws is slowly molded into the man readers grew to love in the first of Webb’s bestselling novels. In the end, Haws must fight to deal with the aftermath of his and Granger’s actions when everything hits the fan at Vitaly Three.

If you've read Nick Webb's, Constitution, you've probably wondered about Comander Abe Haws... Why is this grizzled, embittered, drunk old man the XO? And why does Captain Granger trust him? Well, this is the story that answers those questions! Will and Paul Swardstrom tackle these issues with panache... They tell us Abe's story in a series of alcoholic flashbacks, starting with Abraham's 8th birthday party... It's Abe's Dad who taught him to be ever vigilant, and to be ready to fight when the Swarm comes back... To stay vigilant BECAUSE the Swarm will come back!
This story shows us a young man who's ready to take on the burden that his father couldn't carry. A man whose potentially brilliant career keeps getting derailed by a series of unfortunate circumstances. And did you wonder what happened at Khorsky? Again, I say that this is the story you NEED to read! Even though I knew how the story would end, how it had to end, I cried... Yes, it's that good...
And after saying all that. I want to add that this is a perfect entry into the Legacy Series, it truly is a perfect stand alone. But be forewarned, if you read this book first there will be some big spoilers from the canon.

This is the beauty of Kindle Worlds... You can take a character or plot point, flesh it out and run with it. And Nick Webb's Legacy-verse is a beautifully fertile playground.

Such a guy thing!

I had a bit of trouble getting into this one, but the Swardstrom brothers charm finally caught me. There are very few women in this story, and they are mostly peripheral. They are also kind of sad, tragedies that push the male characters to dark places.

As for the male characters, the main protagonist is Abe - the son of a non-hero, alcoholic, obsessed with the Swarm. He literally passes his alcoholism onto his son, as well as his Swarm obsession. Abe's father, Isaac (backwards Biblically), wasn't the hero he is touted to be and it eats at him. I could do a whole Abraham/Isaac analogy here, but check to see if you catch any of it, let me know.

The bad guy is: dum dum dum...read the book!

This book follows Abe Haws, son of war hero Isaac Haws, from the academy to Vitaly Three. The reader gets to see how the man was made and why he did the things he did. I understand that that was very vague but I am afraid much more might spoil it and it is way to good for me to do that to anyone.

This is a great sci-fi book and no you don't need to have any knowledge of Nick Webb's Legacy Fleet to understand this book but you might find yourself really wanting to read it after you read this, just a warning. If you are familiar with Legacy Fleet this should fill in some blanks for you, so no harm either way. This is just another awesome book by the Swardstrom brothers that you just do not want to miss.
