Prosperity?: Seeking the True Gospel

Rate this book
If even an angel preaches a gospel contrary to God's word, he is under a curse. There is not a Christian in the world that does not need to seriously consider Paul's words to the Galatians. The gospel is the church's most precious gift to cherish, protect, and pass on. We must never stop checking what we believe and preach, and then ask the question: Is this the gospel? Is this the gospel that God has revealed to us in the Bible? There is a false gospel--the prosperity gospel--sweeping across continents. There are many churches preaching this false gospel. It is a dangerous lie wrapped in a covering of religion. Those affected by it are being led away from God's good news to a man-centered deception. Paul took nothing more seriously than the danger of a different gospel and we feel the same way. Nothing is more serious; our souls depend on it.

This is an amazing book. Lots of truth. Every church leader needs to read this and understand that God and His Word are not about you, but Him. It is not about you having everything you think you need or want now. I share this book and the Biblical truths it speaks about with Church leaders in Africa, where this prosperity gospel is so prevalent. People need to know the true gospel of Jesus Christ, not health, wealth and happiness. Chapter 5 of the book gives a lesson on Romans chapter 5, that speaks of the true gospel. A must read. If a pastor you know preaches about prosperity, get him a copy of this and study your Bible together as you read this book, especially if you are inclined to think that as a child of God there is no suffering only prosperity.

An incisive, biblical analysis of the "health & wealth" teaching that has, unfortunately, become so popular around the world. The Appendix chapter by John Piper on 12 reasons why the so-called Prosperity Gospel has no biblical foundations (& actually goes against the grain of the true NT Gospel) is worth the price of the book by itself.

Another book about prosperity gospel. This is not a long book, but quite compact and to-the-point on pointing what they said as errors in the teaching. The appendices say the name of the preachers who are categorized in this prosperity gospel and it's derivatives including Word of Faith.

The joy that Christ offers is so great and so durable that it enables us to loose prosperity and still rejoice

Great book to give to everyone you know in Africa who is currently believing the prosperity 'gospel.' I hope the entire continent is flooded with this book.

A well Written book about the falsehood of the so called prosperity gospel. The authors did a good work of not only pointing out the common errors in the preaching of prosperity, but also presenting the biblical gospel of Christ. I especially loved Condrad Mbewe's presentation of what the gospel is all about in chapter 5, and that is, Christ died for our sins not wealth.

Definitely a super-solid book. But reads more like a resource, most parts are good, but if some are not relevant to you, they may seem boring.
