“I don’t know which is worse—having your mate die or having them reject you.”
Shortly after reaching maturity, Scarlett finds her mate… only to face a painful rejection that threatened to cut her life short. No one told Scarlett reaching maturity would hurt this much, but she came out the other end stronger, braver, smarter, and a little less naïve.
Seeking to pick up the torn pieces, she leaves her pack for a town well away from her home, far away from her ex-mate who just can’t let her go even after claiming someone else.
All seems well until she wanders into Alpha Noah’s territory and she finds an unfortunate blessing. The Goddess has given her another chance at a mate—only it has to be with Noah, a demon wolf plagued by his own dark past. With tainted hands and a shattered heart that almost drove him to madness once more, he has turned ice-cold.
Their wounded souls push and pull, but some things just won’t heal. Rogues have been ravaging their world, and in a war where hundreds of lives have been lost, revenge is all that’s left.
Is the Goddess playing a cruel game this time? When utter carnage surrounds her, will Scarlett’s inner luna rise to the challenge? Will Noah ever get to claim her as her mate?
In a world where families are pitted against families and bonds are severed as soon as they are formed, there are no guarantees.
I really wanted to enjoy this book since it's exactly what I was looking for, especially since the beginning started off well. But unfortunately as I continued to read I became more and more frustrated with trying to figure out what was going on and searching for the romance between Noah and Scarlett which wasn't focused on very much. I thought the world building started off well but it quickly started to fall apart and I became confused during a lot of scenes which took all of my enjoyment away. I do think the story was an interesting idea and I liked where the twists led us, but the overall book and writing style just wasn't for me.
A great book, it was nice to read a book not part of a series. The book itself was excellent. The characters where easy to love, the story definitely kept me intrigued, I didn’t want to miss a word and the person that narrated the book was excellent. Can’t go wrong with this book.
So this book is awesomesauce. Strong shifter story, faboo world building. Multiple POV chapters. It's like Twilight and Game of Thrones had a bastard child with some good sex scenes thrown in. Read this.
Reread 2-2024 This kept coming up as a suggestion, so I decided to reread. I didn’t really remember any of it actually (even when I was rereading). It reminded me a teeny bit of The Hunting Game with the rejection at the beginning of the book, and the h moving away and on to another mate when the original mate can’t let go. Both ran long with too many secondary POV’s congesting the plot and weren’t very angsty.
But where Titan was a bit clueless and caused some miscommunication issues, he wanted Patience badly… And, Noah has a dead mate and is not open to mating at all. You’d think that would generate angsty-drama-goodness, but all they do is argue because Scarlett doesn’t want another mate either.
Bottom Line- I agree with most of my original review, but I’d have to say it’s solid-ish for a newer writer because it does have issues… Like too many POV’s, too many subplots, too much thrown into the last 20% of the book. IMO, it would’ve worked better without the two additional romances and Grace subplots, and just focused on moving the relationship along with some development and feels, more resolution with the Claire guilt, about 100-150 less pages, and a better flowing conclusion.
***Original Review*** Solid shifter romance follows Scarlett who was rejected by her mate at the urging of his alpha parents. ...All this happens within the first 2 chapters...Scarlett takes off for a few years to get away from the pain of her mate, mating someone else, and runs into Alpha Noah a cold, detached, former rogue that now hunts them...and has a dead mate...
The book is long, and it has many subplots going on to fill in the pages because Scarlett and Noah basically have the same arguments and nothing moves for them for the majority of the story...then after about 300 pages of the I don't want you...I want you...I love you...I hate you hamster wheel...POOF... they decide to give the relationship a shot and then...BOOM...they are solid. I was frustrated, since this is a "second chance" at love book; I expected a relationship. Instead we get multiple POV's from characters that doesn't add much to the story. Christa and Grace were important towards the end, but I didn't need Christa's daily life, and when we got Grace's POV, she hadn't even been introduced in the story yet.
The book ends pretty abruptly; you can sign up for the author's newsletter to receive a "bonus epilogue" I hate when authors do this-we purchase the books can't we just get the goods without signing up for junk mail the chapter is like 7 pages long and really doesn't tell you much, but I will add it as a spoiler tag for those who want to know.
It started out great! It drew me in to want to know more about Scarlett and her story. I liked how the world was set up with the packs. I always have an interest in stories with bonds and I appreciated how it was not instalove. This could have turned out to be awesome, but I was left with a rather disappointing and unfulfilling love story.
There were so many different viewpoints! In this case, I felt that it really hindered the relationship development of Scarlett and Noah as a lot of time in the book was focused on other people. It also left quite a few unresolved questions about the other characters. It might have been better to let each of them have their own book as I did not feel a connection with any of them during the story.
I was really disappointed with the relationship development of Scarlett and Noah. I wanted to like Noah, but there was not enough development. It would have been nice to have more romance between them, since the hooker on this plot for me was how Scarlett was going to get her heart mended. For me, there was a lot of unresolved and/or lack of feelings, conversations, what they really thought of each other, and maturity that did not really get explained in the book. This made it seem like the bond was what brought them together rather than their actual feelings.
The editing did not deter too much from the story, but there were a lot of obvious errors that may distract the reader from the story
This story was doomed from the beginning. The characters are flat, their reactions are ridiculous, the world building is non-existent and the "plot" isn't anything worth reading beyond the blurb. There are so many grammatical errors that it's obvious there was no editing at all, from flat out missing words to homophone misuse to apostrophe murder....seriously, an apostrophe does NOT make something plural. This was a waste of time.
This book was so bad that I'm fairly positive the author bought her positive reviews. I read books all the time (check my review history). The writing was sloppy, amateurish, poorly edited, poorly plotted, etc etc you name it. The copy I got on Amazon still had edit highlights and strike throughs in the text!!! I got an unedited copy!!! Unprofessional and I'm glad I only borrowed it and didn't buy it.

This is a very interesting concept in the werewolf genre.
Mates and rejection, the moon goddess' decisions and individual choices, love and hate, acceptance and revenge, the choice for death and the decision for life.
There are so many intersecting concepts in this story that combine to create this awesome world Ashley allows us to visit and reside in for a short amount of time. It has a lot of things going on but each one is well needed and important for the story. You feel as though there are numerous stories within this single one.
If you want a great story that is hard to put down. I highly recommend it.
this book! I swear I wish they got their shit together a lot sooner so you could see more of a love story side and it would be easier to believe the ending cause she didn't solve the doubt or anything. it was so quick at the end seem to me not couple months later to see where they went just I want you for ever done.
The editing needs to be redone some things were repeated.

Okay my biggest issue is the ending doesn't feel like closure to me the way an ending should in my opinion. My second thing is this book takes me into a lot of character's heads, inviting me into their minds and their stories with rotating first person point of view. It's not that I have an issue with this per se, but if that's the case I feel like I should be getting a resolution to all of their stories before the book is over and that doesn't really happen here. I have to kind of question if it's a book length thing, because this piece is longer, but honestly I don't think I'm wrong in saying most readers will read through thousands of pages if they're written well and that's what it takes to get the whole story. It's not so much that they piece is rush, more that it's crowded with too many minds introducing themselves to give them each the attention they need within the confines of just one book. Scarlett and Noah probably got the most attention but while I could see their relationship improving I was off with other characters when it moved from resentment to true love. Both characters had a lot of back story baggage that really should have been properly dealt with before encountering the words The End. Why exactly didn't Janie wand Dane to know she was his mate and what changed her mind? Has Knox healed from the pain of his sister's death? Does he still reset Noah? And don't even get me started on how little we know about Grace even after getting a peek into her mind. The glimpse we got into her story was just enough to frustrate me. I have a lot more questions about characters and that's kind of my point is that I shouldn't. The characters, had they really finished their stories should have left me going, but what about this? I sort of feel like the author's taunting me with all the secrets about these characters and this world she decided not to share. The fact that I want to know however should stand as a testament of how interesting the world created here is and how well written the story was. Definitely recommended.
I started reading this book on Wattpad, were I found out halfway in the book, that it had been taken down, because it was released. I got so angry and sad, so I instantly bought the book.
I love this book, the characters and the plot. wow. this book catches my attention, so I used much of my free time to read.
A very long stand alone with a good plot, though has a desperate need for an editor. The first bit was well edited, though between 40% and 50%, I feel like it was missed by the editor. After that, the words weren't too horrible, though they were plenty. Some plot holes about her turning from a simmering sheltered young woman into a bad @55 was not very well executed.
I really did enjoy the ride. I wish there was more between David and Scarlett in the end, and I'm unclear how Claire was turned against their wills,or even how they turn, for that matter. And what did Noah do that Kendall hated him so much for?
Anyway, I still say I'm impressed by Ashley Michelle and might look for more out her work.
Thank you Sharon J for recommending this book to me. This was an amazing read. The storyline was really interesting. However, there were some things that made me a bit frustrated, the story as a whole was amazing. I loved Scarlett. She was sassy, and fierce. She was rejected by her true mate, but then found Noah and found out that he was her other mate. Noah is a rogue werewolf, and he has to control the feral instinct to turn rogue again. He is the Alpha of his pack. He is protective and sexy. I love their chemistry. I really loved the action as well. I am now a fan of Ashley Michelle. Overall, an incredible read.
Enjoyed this immensely and had difficulty putting it down! Recommend it for a fun read at anytime. Fast paced to have you wondering what is going to happen next.
I wasn’t sure if I was going to go with a 3 or a 4 on this one. It’s probably closer to a 3.5. This is a pretty good rejected mate/E2L shifter romance. Some parts of the writing were a little juvenile, but I think the writer did a good job overall. The story arc worked and any conflicts were resolved in a reasonable way. It didn’t feel overly rushed which is a problem I see a lot in paranormal/fantasy stand-alone (due to not enough time for adequate world-building and explanation of complex paranormal characteristics). I liked the characters and the progression of the story/relationship. This is one of the better rejected mates books that I’ve read.
So much heart aches and so much pain for one girl to bear, it doesn't seems fair but I guess it's what make this book so perfect and brilliantly written. I felt all the emotions, the pains. This is a very promising young writer she creates a colourful world full of unforgettable characters and a huge bonus for all the different POV it's a bit confusing at first to have so many characters point of views but it all seamlessly tied up together in the end and I can't wait for book 2.....
This book is about a young girl named Scarlet who is rejected by her old pack and accidentally stumbles into a new pack and finds a new mate. However, rogue wolves are hunting unpack grounds, and Scarlet doesn’t realize how big of a girl she’s about to play until she’s knee-deep in meeting Noah, the new demon wolf alpha. This novel had me crying, laughing, and yelling at the characters as I read this book. Also, both our main characters have demons in their past. Two broken people come together and make an incredible love story.
I really enjoyed this book! The character development was great to read and the chemistry between Scarlett and Noah was wonderful, they are perfect for each other!
So much is going on in this book that i was going crazy with need to finish asap. So this book introduces us to Scarlett, and ugh my poor little Scarlett, she just is dealt the shittest hand known to man, or wolf for that matter, and though she tries to put her life back together her ugly past aka "jerk non-so-mate" seems to not want to let her go or even let himself lie in the freaking bed he made for himself (figures right)..anyways he finds her after two years demanding she comes back, and Scarlett isn't having it, and decides she would rather eat cow chips then go back and goes on the run once again only to come across more shit then she's ready for "Noah" a second chance at a mate? but can two harden hearts become one?
This book was hard for me at times, because I just wanted them to get over themselves seriously Pushing and pulling, and pushing some more, ugh it gets tiresome. But what I did like was all that was happening, and there's a lot, many characters come into play here and it's not disappointing in the least. I wish the main characters could have found peace within themselves along time ago, but then again hearts that are so broken, are better put back with time. Very enjoyable
respectfully, this book is just not good. i tried so hard to finish it and i just can’t. it’s not enjoyable and the more i read the more i find myself being uninterested.
unfortunately i just can’t complete it and im officially dnf the book.
the beginning was promising. i actually enjoyed it but as soon as scarlett gets taken, it takes a nose dive for the worse.
her character as a whole just becomes annoying. she is like a whole different person and not only that she’s got this im better than everyone attitude.
there are also so many different povs. like i dont mind, and i enjoy a dual pov if its done well, but this book has at least 5 different povs and at that point, its just too much, but i suppose thats my personal opinion.
i genuinely feel like i would enjoy this book if it was about claire and noah rather than scarlett and noah because unlike scarlett, claire seemed like a saint and was a decent person.
overall, i tried to like it. i tried to finish it, but it became a chore and i just didn’t want to continue it any longer.

I really didn’t like the hero, Noah and didn’t really buy into the fact that they were in love …. Or more like I didn’t buy the idea that the heroine, Scarlett fell for him.
Her first True Mate rejected her and then she’s bound to another mate, and is ‘blessed’ with a second chance. But her new mate is a horrible jerk who can’t see past his dead mate.
Noah verbally abuses Scarlett, willingly humiliates her (I hate it when an OW makes advances on the hero and he doesn’t put the OW in her place, even though he knows it hurts the heroine), and tells Scarlett to her face that she disgusts him (he’s disgusted about how he feels about her).
Scarlett was constantly the second choice and she never felt wanted. In the end, it didn’t really feel like he tried to apologize. The author just used a convenient ‘female going into heat’ as a plot device to get the MCs together.
I read this book on wattpad a couple of years ago and I fell in love with the story. I've always been a sucker for second chance mates but it was no wonder that I fell in love with His To Claim. I finally got around to buying the published version, and while I notice that there is some differences when compared to the old one I can't say I'm disappointed. Definitely is going to be one of the books that I end up rereading :)
