Turning back time is one of most touching reads that I have done for a review this year. The book just reaches out to those dreams that are trodden over life decisions. I loved the way the author has made the story behind every single person as heart aching as it could be. The book speaks of the atrocities hailed up women at those times, the restrictions men had to face in order to decide something for their own good, the way the author explains how broken dreams give nothing but regret, especially when you know that you have a breaths to taken in and all you have for your life is remorse. The author has somehow made every story link to the girl as her life demands to take some major decisions.
The book is well written, well edited and the choice of title is perfect as it goes well with the amazing plot. The cover, though beautiful indeed could be improved a little bit to match the book so that the story is reflected from the cover. The book is a fast read and those who love reading can gulp it a go.

" If I Had the chance to turn back time, then I would go tell everyone that I loved them because to me, that is the most wonderful feeling in the world. Alas, it is too late.
Life punished me terribly.
Death, hopefully, would not. "

This book is meant to uphold the way of a good life imbibed with values and ideals. Turning Back Time is a book that has four short stories of elderly strangers and how their many mistakes gives Alia essential lessons for life. Her determination and her excessively busy way of living to support the family was snatching away all the beautiful snippets from her life. She was slowly turning into a person to whom work was a substitute for her regular activities and she was hard set on earning more money to have enough for her mother.

However, the old age home that she works in has many elderly people whom Alia loves dearly and calls them grandpa and grandma. When these people who are so close to her, die one after the other, she realises the meaning of life and understands the inevitable feeling of regret that one always has no matter what their actions are. The four stories of Raman, Hema, Girish, Sita not only embark teachings to Alia but also helps us see the truth in life and how important the present moment is.

This book by Shravya Gunipudi has the heart in its right place. It is warm and refreshing to see Alia’s cheerful demeanour. Her character is one that girls of her age will easily relate to. Kudos to the author for bringing this friendly and genuine character into our bookish lives. The lessons imparted to its readers is not too preachy and that makes the book a good read. The writing style and language is effortless and fluent. Mayank’s intense love and care for Alia is adorable and honestly gave me relationship goals.

However, a lot of the four stories were predictable. I could honestly tell how exactly every story would end and that took away the charm from reading. Sometimes, the regrets of the occupants of the Old Age Home were a tad bit dramatic. If you are not put off by the predictability of the book, then you will definitely like the rest of it because Turning Back Time makes you feel good about your life and brings a carefree smile on your face.

The book is about the way Alia's life changes because of the lives of four elderly people, Raman, Hema, Sita, Girish, who despite being strangers left their imprints on her heart.
Their stories indeed, turned back time.

The book is well-written and the plot is something new for a reader to relish.
The stories were wonderfully delineated as the pain of the person could be felt through those words.
The way lives were back then, the way love was never fair, the way promises were more important, the way life was not worth living and yet they lived, all have been turned into words.

The book gives us an important lesson, its better to die with satisfaction that we tried than to die with the regret that we never did.
Its one life we have and suppressing our emotions and doing things for other people to be happy won't let us die in peace.

Ratings - 3 out of 5 stars.
The book is a light read, making it an advantage to be read whenever the reader has time to spare.
The execution of the plot though good ,could have been better.

The book was either fast paced or good enough to be completed within a day, that's for you to read it and decide.

Life is an unpredictable journey. A journey that needs to be completed till the end. End is never decided nor fixed. It comes and washes away all the memories that you carried throughout your journey. But what happens when a bad memory haunts you for your entire lifetime…what happens when you have regrets in your last moment that don’t even let you die in peace…Yes, then death is even a curse for you. ‘Turning Back Time’ is a fictional novel written by 'SHRAVYA GUNIPUDI' based on the last moment regrets. The novel contains small tales of four different person that had regrets in their death bed and how the death became a curse for them. The story revolves around the Alia(Main character), her mother and a boy named Mayank. I really appreciate the author for doing such an amazing work.

Review :-

The book is very promising and and approaches the story world with a traditional and ancient story telling way which is not followed much nowadays. I was impressed how the story binds every element elegantly and makes it looks normal. It is an intense story and a lot mature in a writing sense.

However, small errors are seen sometimes. The story being in traditional way does not excite much because it is literature based which is not favoured by many young readers. The ground work of the story is astonishing but the start was a little bumpy and quite extra common. The story itself is very important and impressive.

Not many story surfaces now that dares to take a sensitive topic and deliver in such a way. Slow paced stories often lose readers. But this book demands to be read and proves itself worthy. I was quite taken aback by the truth that this story is written by a 23 year old person. Frankly, that was unexpected because the calibre of the writing is above par.

The plot is unique and traditional way of story telling feels good to read. The author has written about some serious issues of our society like harassment, discrimination, hatred and love too in those stories of senior citizens. She has opted to write something different and has done her job extremely well. The language is simple and engaging. And, narration is perfect for such story. The cover of the book is nice and it suggests that this book has something different within it. This book teaches many things to reader and the author deserves a thanks for this. If I talk about some negative points, then there is hardly some. Some stories are common and a little slow. Some readers may not find it interesting as it is something different from what most of the readers want to read. Except these minor glitches everything looks good. We should read such kind of books. After reading it will remain in your mind for long. It teaches good lessons and motivates us.

This is a story of a young girl who learns the precious lessons about the life from the stories of four senior citizens of an old age home. She is not a typical girl. She was living with her mother since when her passed away. Her mother worked as a teacher in local school and earned quite a bit herself. Alia also worked two jobs. The first was as a caretaker at a private children’s day care centre and her second job was at an old age home where she gave the elderly company and took care of some senior citizens. The job was very demanding and stressful. She worked very hard and wanted to save some money. She stopped her mother from spending more on not useful things. She was quite very busy in work and hardly spend some time with her mother. Once she met Mayank, a youngster like her. She treats the senior citizens at old age home like her grandparents. And Raman, Hema, Girish and Sita also love her a lot. They understand her and want her to learn from their stories. They don’t want that she repeats the same mistakes as they did. Raman gave Alia his diary before he died. The diary told the Raman’s story. And he tried to teach her that we should not only focus on work and money. Family matters more than these and we should give our time to the family. Similarly, Other three also taught something good by their stories before they died. Thus, there are total five stories to read for us. Four by these elders and One is Alia’s story. And, these stories are worth reading. It is also very interesting to read how these lessons affected the life of Alia and her love life too. So, Her four grandparents has given her more valuable lessons than sge could have ever hoped to learn in a lifetime. These are also valuable for us. What are these? To know this you should go for this book. The author has written some beautiful lines. Here’s one of those:

“Her every kiss was like a sweet bullet to his heart and he was being wonderfully wounded by love.”

Life is a brief intermission between birth and death, and in that intermission we create a lot of memories...some are good while some are bad...some are even the worst memory of our live that we have to accept them and live with them, accepting them our journey continues till there comes a time when we have to leave everything behind…even our regrets and that time is death. For some death is a terrible curse and for some it is the purest truth of life. Regrets is perhaps the most painful companion of death.
'Turning Back Time' is a fictional novel written by 'SHRAVYA GUNIPUDI', contains collection of four tales or we can say four life lessons. The novel follows the story of a girl named 'Alia' who lives with her mother in a dilapidated building and works as a caretaker at a private children's daycare and also at an old age home. Old age home was like family to her and she treated them as her own grandparents.
The Story of novel revolves around the story of Alia, her mother and a boy named 'Mayank' and also the story of four old people that gives Alia a life lesson.
The death of four of her loveable grandparents made a huge impact on her life. The novel basically deals with the story of Alia's four grandparents: Raman, Hema, Girish and Sita and how her life changed after hearing the story. All the four person has some regrets in their lives which they had to carry them till their last moment and they all narrated Alia theirs’ story through one way or the other as Alia was so dear to them.
Raman before dying left a dairy for Alia in which he wrote the story about his life and the regrets that was always there with him. Hema told Alia the story of her life before dying and also all the regrets she was having in her death bed. Girish's story had been told by someone else and also all the regrets that he had. Sita left a suicide note to tell Alia the story of her life and all the regrets that she had in the last moment. On the other hand, with all these lessons, Alia's life with her Mother and Mayank continues.
The Author also threw light upon some sensitive issue that women in our society faces, mostly in the ancient times like sexual abuse, sati pratha, child marriage, forbidden love, domestic abuse etc.
I like the flow of the story and the connectivity of the story of all the old person with the lesson that Alia needed to learn. The Author has done a great work and her effort can be clearly seen as she made me realize some of the important aspects in life like we are only responsible for our happiness and no one should have the power to snatch that happiness away from us.
Some of the lesson that we can take from this novel: Death is not the greatest loss in life. The greatest loss is when we have regrets in the death bed...when there are a lot of 'ifs' left in the last moment...when we want to turn back time and make everything the way it should be...

Book has everything which is needed to write an interesting book hatred, child marriage, love. The writing style is simple but not much effective. The structure of the story is beautiful and elegant. Characters of the book are portrayed in a commendable way.

Language is easy and the book cover is beautiful. The book can be finished in one go.

This is the first book to be penned down by the author Shravya Gunipudi, and I must add it is really an impressive work. The language and the smooth flow of the story keeps you hooked.

Alia is a working woman, who is trying hard, to make ends meet. Living with her mother, she has no time for anything except work. Trying to provide for their existence and shelter, she has two jobs to run to. Quite a daunting life, but that's what it means to live life in an expensive city with the costs of living rising higher by the day.

In the evening she works for an old age home. A place where the 'unwanted' or 'uncared' elderly are kept and taken care of. Alia tries her best to keep up the spirits there but somehow there is a pain, an ache of returning to their own. She shares a wonderful relationship with each of the grandmas and grandpas there.

The turn comes when one of them dies and he hands over the story of his life to Alia. His story brings in a different element of life for Alia. As days pass, like a chain reaction, they succumb to the impending death and each one leaves with a lesson for Alia. Their stories, their words make Alia reflect on the life she is living and what she wants it to be.

Most of the things may or may not be happening at this time, in this period, but some where, some place and some of this, for someone might be reality. It really touched my heart that the story talked about real men and women with real pain and emotions.

The stories leave you with many thoughts. You think over, if life is just a house of bricks and cement, or a home with love and care. It makes you think if love is worth fighting for or just letting it go as a deceptive feeling. It makes you think, if as a woman, you are better off than the rest of the unprivileged or are you just living the same life in another set up.

At the end, I'd just say, that if you are looking for a good book that could just change your way of thinking, a book to make you feel happy and sad, a book that leaves a strong impression on your mind and heart, then this is the one! I would recommend it to anyone who wants to feel emotions, raw and deep.

Best wishes to the author for her future.

"Sometimes, the inevitable is learnt by the ones who had lost memory, yet what we forget is, they live experience, and they preach life, the life which is universal."

Shravya Gunipudi turns back the pages of life to experience the course of life, the one which happened then, the one which repeats now. Turning Back Time is a novel which makes you travel through time only to learn the prominent lessons of life. From one page to another, you can relate how much one is losing on, in order to fulfil the greed of money, in order to win the race which will never end. It will make you learn the inevitable lessons of life, the ones which aren't taught in books, but only under the guidance of a soul, who's always there to guide you through the hours of darkness.

Alia, a girl who's scared to face the consequences of the future, the one who believes to live for the future first than the present, a distant woman with an ever so distracted soul, earns her living while working in an old age home. Emotionally attached to each one of them, it breaks her heart when they leave her, forever but every departure makes her know a new truth to life, another dimension, another phase, and another piece of their own memory. The depression and trauma they leave behind with her was also a blessing, a blessing which brought her to a realisation, a realisation that life is beautiful, beautiful enough to live the present without doubts, a life full of hopes and wishes. Every story she learns from the elderly makes her a different person, for herself, for others, and most importantly for them.

A complete circle of life, death and what lays in between, this story makes me realise that how important the present it, how irrelevant the past has been, and how lost the future will be. The author has surely lived up a lot of expectations. A really great piece of work, Shravya!

The problem with jealousy is, the harder you try to fight it, the stronger it becomes. I think it feeds off our emotions and preys on our minds.

These are the words one would least expect from a 20 something individual, and so is the book Turning Back Time. But Shravya Gunipudi, a 23 year old, has singlehandedly dealt with a subject as grave as death, usually considered beyond the ambit of naive minds, in her book- Turning Back time.

Miss Gunipudi chooses Alia to tell important life lessons. Alia is the pivotal character, who works hard to make ends meet, and has long forgotten to pick the small moments scattered around. She works at an Old age home, this is the place where life happens to her.
The sad departure of her closest allies in the old age home; Raman, Hema, Girish and Sita, and the subsequent legacies they leave for Alia, change her life for good.
These four share their life stories, and readers are left to draw the morale. This is where Gunipudi impresses with her expertise in lucid expression of mature emotions.

The Cover is beautiful and gives the pleasure of possession. It could have been a better piece of work if the four different stories had reflected on different spans of life, instead of monotonous biographical depiction and the associated stereotypes of contemporary societies. Moreover, transitions aren't smooth, this particularly weakens the plot.

Despite the aforementioned loopholes, the sensitive theme of the book grabs a good part of reader's mind. Gunipudi's deep inquisitive thoughts clad in apt words and her knack for storytelling, makes the book Turning Back Time - a simple yet effective read for any bookholder.

Some memories are unforgettable, remaining ever vivid and heartwarming. Talking about memories, one can create many. Some are good while some are bad. Some are wistful, some are immortal while some are reminiscent unforgettable and some like a sieve that can haunt you for your entire life time and some are even the worst that can make you suffer during your last moment…yes I am talking about regrets in the death bed. Regrets is perhaps the most painful companion of the death. For those who have regrets in their last moment…death is even a terrible curse.
'Turning Back Time', a fictional novel written by 'SHRAVYA GUNIPUDI', makes one realize that death is not the greatest loss in life. The greatest loss is when there are a lot of ‘ifs’ remaining, when there are a lot of questions which needed to be answered. In the tale of life, death and the ride in between, where there are always mistakes and never second chances, there is only one question….Can you make it through without regrets?
The novel has multiple plots and all the plots contain some life lessons. Every story begins and ends on a different note. The story revolves around the life of Alia(Main Character), her mother and a boy Mayank. The beauty of the novel is the flow of the story that how well all the individual story proved to be a lesson for Alia and how the story impacted her life.
It is a great experience reading this book and I would love to read more novels from the author.

When I started reading this novel, I thought it is just a random novel that I picked from a friends recommendation. But after reading a couple of pages I realize that why my friend kept on forcing me to read this book. I mean really, Writer has jotted down certain points that I realize that I should follow her words deep down. The story of this novel revolves around ‘Alia’ the main character of this novel, her mother, a guy named Mayank and stories of four old people from the old age home. The people from the old age home tell certain life stories of their own which has some motive. Alia realizes or we can say learns from each story certain life lesson. All the old people have one or other regrets in their last moment. Author has asked a very good question in the book that ‘In the tale of life, death and the ride in between, where there are always mistakes and never second chances, there is only one question. Can you make it through without regrets? I really love this book and will certainly recommend my friends to read this.

Even if there is actually a cycle of rebirths that exists, you only remember this one life, and frankly, that is all the matters too. The story reiterates some of the most crucial life lessons that generations after generations have tried to impart into their kids: live in the present, stand up for yourself, do not give up on love, and most of all, happiness is something that comes from within. And yet, it takes most of our race to go through some really bitter life experiences to finally realise them, and by the time they do, it's already too late, and all that is left with them at the end, is regret.
The story is definitely written by a person who understands the concept and the true meaning of happiness. Although the writing style is a bit lax, the book keeps you hooked to the very end, for you can't seem to put it down without knowing what comes out of the characters' lives. You can give it a go, for the young author shows promise, and despite her age, seems to know the true secret to survive our time on the planet.

Writing style is so obvious and philosophical. The writer has fused philosophy with the daily scenarios and has made it a bestseller .Thats so appreciatave. Solid characters have made the book more successive and productive .Comic relief is offered bye other to leads .Diversity is seen all over the story ,manifestation of different scenarios has given a new refreshment to the story line .A young story teller has taken us to the days of Golden memories and made them keep us out treasure .The read is so fast as the number of pages are less but has a huge message left behind it .If you love robin Sharma and the writings of Paul coelho you will love this book too .Book cover is so natural and beautiful it exactly takes us to the old days .Narration is fantastic ,loved it .Some places are so draggy .But overall it's awesome .

Tuning Back Time, a fictional novel that can have a very profound impact in anyone’s life. The author, SHRAVYA GUNIPUDI’ made me realize the importance of my own happiness and my own value in the cycle of life. The story of the novel revolves around Alia, her mother and Mayank and also the novel contain tales of four old people who have regrets in their lives and at the time of death they told their story to Alia and Alia had a great life time learning lesson from all the stories. The author raised a very important question in the book, as the book is about regrets in the death bed and in which one of them is “In the tale of life, death and the ride in between, where there are always mistakes and never second chances, there is only one question…..Can you make it through without regrets?” It was a great experience reading this book. What moves your soul? Human emotions flow freely in this book ,beautifully penned with a very mature understanding of human emotions. Surprisingly coming from a young author these are very good stories , all the 4 stories have very deep rooted connect to our semi urban environment. Life per se' makes sense & it also manages to touch certain deep rooted evils which once existed in our society & some of them still do. Right from the taboo of incest to the manner in which we treat our parents in their old age. There are a couple of stories which stir the depths of our soul & awaken something which may have gone into a premature hibernation.

Its a lovely effort by Shravya Gunipudi , brilliant narration & flow. Makes me look forward to her second book. Keenly waiting.....

Turning Back time is not just a novel…it is something else. It is more than a piece of story that we read and forget. It is like a life time lesson embeds in a single book. The writer ‘Shravya Gunipudi’ asked a lot of question in between the story. The story revolves around ‘Alia’ the main character of the novel and her mother and a boy named Mayank. There are also four small stories in the book that has one same motive. Regrets are perhaps the most painful companion of death. The writer wanted to show that we should not have regrets in life ever…and when we have regrets during death bed, it is certainly the worst thing that could happen. The motive behind this novel can be clearly seen. I really love this book.

Turning Back Time is one of the novels that I really enjoyed while reading. The writer ‘shravya Gunipudi’ wrote this with some motive that she clearly fulfills. I liked this line from the book ‘In the tale of life, death and the ride in between, where there are always one mistakes and never second chances, there is only one question. Can you make it through without regrets?’ Regrets can’t even let you die in your last moment. The flow of the story is very well plotted. There are four different stories along with the main story that ends with some life lesson and with the same motive. I really like this novel. All the life lesson about enjoying life, and never have regrets is something that I can’t find in any other novel.

Everyone loves to live their life lavishly but Alia knows that a simple luxury is one too many, one they cannot really afford. Besides working a full time job, she also helps around at the old age home. The excessive burdens and responsibilities have turned her into a negative, no-nonsense kind of a girl who finds solace in the senior companions and their stories. This is the story of how a girl turns into a woman, strengthened and emboldened by the many lessons her old friends leave her, some through their words and some, through death.
I was drawn to the cover of the book even before I had the chance to look at the blurb and find out what the book was about. The protagonist of the book is far from perfect, another plus point because it was her timid yet aggressive character that made the story come to life. She isn’t your typical too-happy-too-rich-too-content kind of a girl. Instead she’s someone who knows what she wants and doesn’t have and often her tantrums ring true to someone like me, who has been through such a phase way earlier on in life.

The old age home is her only sanctuary where she feels free to whine and complain, a luxury she knows she cannot afford in the real world. Her senior friends, Girirsh, Hema, Sita and Raman are shown to be as anxious to see her everyday just as she is. They understand her plight but want her to learn from their mistakes and stories to let go and lead a fuller, happier life.

The writing style is simple and engaging, apt for such a story. The Author has touched quite a few hard subjects such as abuse, discrimination, hatred and of course, love. Through various standpoints and situations, these terse subjects are enough to take you on a roller coaster ride. I loved the way the author took a seemingly distant woman to be the protagonist since this is the marking point of how much she learns, understands and realises by the end of the book. Overall a well deserved 4.5 stars for the unique plot, bravado to write about such topics and taking a different path for a debut novel!

Until next time!

The Main character of this Novel is Alia.
Alia is a woman who faced a lot of struggle in living a good and meaningful life.
She was a kind of person, everyone wants to be, She was beautiful, had a caring nature, and was hard-working as well. But her emotions ruled her life.

This book tells how Alia’s life changes because of the lives of four elderly people, Raman, Hema, Sita, Girish, who despite being strangers left memories in her heart.

Their stories indeed, turned back time.

The book is very well-written and the plot is woven in such a way that the pain of the person could be felt by the reader through the words.

This novel is quite different from the kind of novels I have read in the past.

The book gives us a Life Lesson, which we are often given. It's better to die with the satisfaction that we have tried and do what we want to do rather than to die with the regret that we never did.

The plot was good, but it could have been better.
Looking forward to read more from the Author in the Near Future.

This book has been an emotional roller coaster for me. I have read from cover to cover and i have to say i still feel like have't gotten enough of it yet. The author has done a really good job on character development, each character has been given the space and time to grow and allowed us to know them better. It is kind of a book that sticks with you long after you have finished reading it. The writing style is good according to me and really easy to understand and picture the world in the book and look directly at the characters.
This book has really great lines like : In the tale of life, death and the ride in between, where there are always mistakes and never second chances, there is only one question. Can you make it through without regrets?
And this is one of many many many awesome lines that make the already emotionally rich moments in the book more intense and each moment feels like you are experiencing it you self.
plot: This novel is made up of many sub plots surrounding the main plot which is about Alia who works in an old age home. The others are sub plots or can be said separate plots which include life stories of the characters who are highlighted in the book.
With this novel she really has turned back the time for me and if you want to have an amazing experience yourself you should read it.

I loved the part how slowly depression creeps in and how Alia fights back inspite of actually thinking way beyond about it. The entire story is very well written n it doesn't fail to offer you something or the other in every part of the entire story. A very well EXPLAINED story where Shravya was able to connect with the readers heart to say the least. A loss of a person and it's greivene thus throws your life to distant but world don't easily acknowledge the pain one goes through as they fail to connect with them emotionally.
I loved it :)

Turning Back Time by Shravya Gunipudi is a mind bloggling novel or rather say collection of short stories compiled up in a fictional way. The use of involvement of the novel in disguise of a character named Alia is fantabulous. This book takes you to the old times where there is no technology, just the stereotypical notions.

Cover- The cover of the book is mesmerising as it transports to the old village times which you might have heard from your grandparents' mouth. It is surely a beautiful painting which is taken as a cover of the book. The colour schemes is radiant.

Title- The title is crisp, clear and fulfills the purpose of the book and the author as it gives us an idea that we are going to be transported in flashbacks. The story dances around the title.

Sneak Peek- When people we love pass away, they only take their presence with them. They leave their memories with us. The story revolves around ‘Alia’, an emotionally distant woman, and how the lives of four elderly strangers impact her own very deeply, bringing about a change in the way she treats herself and those around her. As the clock begins to tick and they each start to die, leaving their stories behind for her to learn from, she finds that the depression and trauma caused by their loss have left with her the gift of a lifetime… Realisation. In the tale of life, death and the ride in between, where there are always mistakes and never second chances, there is only one question. Can you make it through without regrets?

Plot- Well, this book does not have a single plot but many plots. It do have a main plot which focus on Alia who works in an old age home. The others are sub plots or can be said separate plots which include life stories of the characters who are highlighted in the book. They are on the verge of their death and the way they delineate their stories is the rest of plot construction.

Theme- The whole book highlights 'DEATH' and the way it affects the people around it. For some death is the ultimate destination, for some its the way to get rid of all the sufferings, for some, it is a divine union with their loved one and for some, its a suffering. The author has phantasmagorically shown this concept in different stories in different ways.

Characterisation- Well, the author has beautifully given space to each and every character by giving them their own set of story to tell and made the link, Alia. Alia is a young girl who is bit unsure about marriage as she is attached to old age home and is not able to find out the reason behind her denial as she is attracted to her fiance but is reluctant to accept his love. Her story moves slowly in parts as she is seen busy listening to others' stories henceforth, her story takes a halt in between.

Style- The author has used picaresque technique of story telling which is almost long lost these days. Not only this, the use of epistolar technique blended with flashbacks makes is more enthralling. The use of first person narrative with a tinge of third person narrative adds flavour to the novel. The nest best segment is the use of impersonal as well personal descriptions. The plot construction is surpassable. In simple words, it can be said that," this piece is a non fiction mixed with fictional touch. The book needs a bit of proof reading but it doesnt overshadow the unique concept of writing style used by the author. This is 'Perfecto' as she its her debut novel.
