For Chase Hampton, fear is simply a four-letter word. After Baltimore, the headlines labeled him an enigma. Unbreakable. Alone with his thoughts, he feels anything but. Most would crumble at the situations he’s faced. The loss he’s endured. Most people are not Chase Hampton. Nine months after the tragedy, he’s tried to put his broken life back together. A new place to call home, new friends. A new purpose. But an old enemy remains. And he wants nothing more than to take Chase out and deny him the one thing he wants. Needs. Elizabeth Gibbons has moved on too. Though she still loves Chase, the wounds from Baltimore are still fresh. The wall around her heart solid . . . until Chicago goes terribly wrong. Enter Avery and Gabriella Brennan, the brother/sister team who run an outfit specializing in solving problems. They’ve taken Chase under their wing. As events unfold, Chase realizes there is more to them than meets the eye. Will their shocking secret force him to betray their friendship? Will Boston bring Elizabeth and Chase back together or drive an irreversible wedge between them?
This book was absolutely amazing. I hope this isn't the last Chase book, but if it happens to be, I'd be satisfied with the way it ended.
I also wouldn't be against a companion series featuring the Brennan's (hint hint, mister muse)
This last chapter in Chase's life is one that starts out rocky, and quite honestly on a path I didn't see coming.
I'm not going to go into detail, in case you reading this review before reading Killing & Giving, as I don't want to give anything away. I will say that Ben did a fabulous job of wrapping this "mission" up and giving us a much craved conclusion.
I always wait to review a series until I finish the whole series. Some series can be enjoyed as standalone books, but others can't. This is one of those that needs to be read in order to truly be enjoyed. Get ready for an engrossing saga of love, hate, greed, and maybe finally redemption. Ben Muse has crafted a main character who is woefully imperfect, and at the same time so completely human, that we cheer him on from the very first page. I REALLY hope there is a #4 in the works from this incredibly talented author.
Chase only wants to put his broken life back together. New friends and a new purpose. But an okd enemy wants nothing more than to take Chase out and keep him from his son. Avery and Gabby enlists Chase to help with their "projects" and Elizabeth is back in the picture. Can Chase ever have a normal life." Best Chase book yet. Jumps around a bit, but still a good read. Muse is improving. (Isn't that the perfect name for a writer? Looking for my muse - oh, it's me.)
