An essential companion to the understanding of this complex novel.
Magic Realism and the origins of the genre is well defined as used in this classic Marquez novel. Following all of the characters is hard work and study and analysis is a boon for the first time reader and is very engaging. The book is highly visual and yet has not been made been made, to the best of my knowledge into a film. Much of the popular, present day movie making could be considered magic realism. These films are not gentle or gentile. They are rough and tough, lurid and lewd and not equal to the literary prowess of Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
So much fucking incest. And sometimes I don’t understand what’s going on because I feel like I’m high but obv I’m not it’s just Marquez spewing nonsense for most of it.
