A brand-new story starring the unlikely best friends of The Butterfly Club, published specially for World Book Day 2017, from much-loved and bestselling author Jacqueline Wilson.Selma can't wait to go on holiday with her best friend forever, Tina. But a holiday with Tina means a holiday with her triplet sisters, too - and it's not long before Selma feels like the odd one out. Can their shared love of butterflies bring Selma and Tina together again?
Jacqueline Wilson was born in Bath in 1945, but spent most of her childhood in Kingston-on-Thames. She always wanted to be a writer and wrote her first ‘novel’ when she was nine, filling in countless Woolworths’ exercise books as she grew up. As a teenager she started work for a magazine publishing company and then went on to work as a journalist on Jackie magazine (which she was told was named after her!) before turning to writing novels full-time.
One of Jacqueline’s most successful and enduring creations has been the famous Tracy Beaker, who first appeared in 1991 in The Story of Tracy Beaker. This was also the first of her books to be illustrated by Nick Sharratt. Since then Jacqueline has been on countless awards shortlists and has gone on to win many awards. The Illustrated Mum won the Guardian Children’s Fiction Award, the 1999 Children’s Book of the Year at the British Book Awards and was also shortlisted for the 1999 Whitbread Children’s Book Award.
Double Act won the prestigious Smarties Medal and the Children’s Book Award as well as being highly commended for the Carnegie Medal. The Story of Tracy Beaker won the 2002 Blue Peter People’s Choice Award.
Jacqueline is one of the nation’s favourite authors, and her books are loved and cherished by young readers not only in the UK but all over the world. She has sold millions of books and in the UK alone the total now stands at over 35 million!
In 2002 Jacqueline was awarded the OBE for services to literacy in schools and from 2005 to 2007 she was the Children’s Laureate. In 2008 she became Dame Jacqueline Wilson.
A lovely short story with the characters from Jacqueline Wilson’s The Butterfly Club. I feel this one works a lot better if you’re already familiar with the characters but it’s still a nice short story of the family and Selma going on holiday. It’s made me want to know more about Selma.
I chose this rating because Jacqueline Wilson always hits the spot light on every book including this one. I would recommended is book to my 4 year old god sister because she loves to read books like this and loves to read anyway so she would definitely like this one. Once again, a bog thank you to Jacqueline Wilson for writing this book, it's absolutely amazing!! Thank you!!!!! 💝☺👍
It was a good funny book and best of all very heart warming this book shows you what true friendship should look like. WAY to short for my liking ! I mean come on JW not your best performance could have been much better, I got to page 57 then it started giving me an extract from another book! JW you need to up your game seriously because I was just not amused by this book at all! :-[ :-( :'( :O =-O :-\
This book works as a standalone short story, but you get more out of it if you have read The Butterfly Club first as it centres around the characters from that book
This was a short story produced for world book day so it isn't very long, it's hard to fit much background information and character description in without taking from the story, so by using characters from a previous book it means that this can all just be touched on briefly and you can read the first (full) book to find out more
I enjoyed the story, but I think an extra 10 pages or so would have led to me giving 5 stars rather than 4. I felt it dropped off at the end and I wanted to know more about what happened on the holiday (it is left after the first morning waking up in the caravan and then just a quick summary of the rest) and about what happened when Selma returned home.
I also expected the morning wandering to happen only once, with the triplets mum finds out and blaming Selma for being a bad influence, and Tina sticking up for her and telling her mum honestly that it was her idea. Instead, it says that they do it every day and it just seems odd that her mum wouldn't be aware as she is very protective, especially of Tina
I think this is a nice quick read but will be enjoyed much more if The Butterfly Club is read first. If there was a little bit more about the rest of the holiday and Selma going back home, then it would have been 5 stars from me
This is a very cute short story following Tina, Selma and Tina’s sisters as they go on a summer holiday to the beach.
This one is told from the point of view of Selma so you see a little bit more of her family and home life, as well as how she interacts with Tina and her family. Which is especially interesting as there are some little comments that make you realise how out of place Selma really is with Tina’s family.
A quick read written specially for World Book’s Day. I learned that features the main characters from another book Butterfly Club. Like all her other books, the leading female character is strong, fearless and a little rough on the edges. The story is realistic featuring ongoing society issues like divorce, bully, favoritism and friendship. Read on.
