After a childhood trauma, Heidi Thompson is tired of looking over her shoulder and continually leaving her life behind. Reinventing herself one more time, she's hired to train search and rescue teams for Fortress Security. But an unknown enemy obsessed with revenge follows her to Otter Creek. Even though the danger escalates and the police view her with suspicion, Heidi refuses to run this time. Determined to live without fear, she accepts the help of a man from her past--now a trained soldier. Quinn Gallagher couldn't shake off the dust of Black River fast enough. Now an operative with Fortress Security, he ignores his painful past--until a woman with the face of an angel and familiar green eyes reminds him of heartbreaking loss. When Heidi barely escapes another attempt on her life, the elite Delta warrior vows to save the woman who has scaled the walls of his heart. Quinn must face an enemy who has prowled in the darkness for two decades. To have a future, Quinn and Heidi must return to Black River to confront the past before their dream of a life together goes up in flames.
Heidi Thompson's past keeps coming back to haunt her. But she's tired of changing her name and moving to a new location. When her cousin calls in a favor to Fortress Security, they are set up with new identities and new locations.
Heidi finds herself in Otter Creek and is set up as a search and rescue trainer at PSI. When she discovers her childhood crush, Quinn, also works for PSI, she hopes she'll be able to tell him who she is before he discovers it on his own. She doesn't want to give him a chance to hate her more than he already should.
Quinn Gallagher left Black River right after he graduated high school and never looked back. There's too much pain and heartache associated with his home town. He does his best to not think about it. But when he meets the new S&R trainer, he can't shake the feeling that he knows her from somewhere. There is just something about Heidi that has him wanting to do everything in his power to protect her from whatever may lie ahead of them.
A few hours before Heidi was going to tell Quinn the truth of who she really is, her past catches up with her and forces her hand. Now Quinn is blindsided by the truth and Heidi knows that when all is said and done, he won't want anything to do with her. But Quinn surprises her. He never blamed her for what happened to his family. She was even more of a victim than they were.
Now that he has Heidi back in his life, he refuses to let her go. Quinn didn't have the means to protect her when they were younger but he does now. He will do everything in his power to find the person responsible for all the attempts on Heidi's life and make sure they pay for everything they have done. Once this chapter of their lives is closed, they'll be able to start a new one. One that will end in HEA.
I am loving both of these series! They are giving me the break from reality that I need! I am sucked in from the very beginning and do not want to put the books down! Gotta love it when that happens!
I am so glad that I discovered Ms. Deel! I can't wait to see where she takes us next!
And of course we can't forget my casting! This one was fun to cast! What do you think?
Yikes this book was intense! It brought characters and incidences from book one in the series, as well as new characters and stories.
First off, I love that with each book we get to be with other characters we know and love from Otter Creek. I enjoy how they all interconnect and there were some sweet tender moments in this book.
The romance and suspense between the two main characters, Quinn and Heidi, is intense. There were moments where I literally got chills and a little spooked by everything that happened. I liked Heidi especially and her spunk. She has a great sense of humor and yet takes a stand when needed.
Time for another book in this wonderful series!!!!
I really enjoy her books. They are clean with action and romance. She gets you involved in the character's lives however she started a pattern with the romance that within 24-48 hours of meeting each other they are claiming each other for life and the hero is using nicknames like "babe," What happened to the relationship growing over the story? In this story she is letting him kiss her soundly without any idea of what kind of a relationship he wants from her! Or whether he is available! The author tried to make it believable with a back story but I was just disappointed. She can do so much better.
Whoa...bagged that will sink you to a bottom of a ocean, strength not to give up -this is a journey of surviving with some blessings!
Quinn is one of the Durango team, he seen everyone find thee perfect fit. He looks like a serial date he dates but he can tell after a couple there's no chance n moves on. He wants wheat his teammates have the perfect partner for life. Heidi wants to get out of witness protection/running and have a real life. Lots of twist and turns will keep you on your seat. Violence 2, Sex 0 a clean romance kissing you dizzying is it.

This book in the series the author has nicely interwoven two stories to keep you distracted. She did a good job with both the main story with Quinn and Heidi/Katie as well as the smaller story with Serena and Ethan. Serena and Ethan's bring bath characters from a previous story in this series but it's not necessary to have read it to understand what's going on. Everything is explained briefly so it's not necessary to have read the previous books in this series but it does make it nicer to see how the characters are doing. As usual the author puts a few red herrings in to add to the possible bad guys. I'm off to read the next one.
As with all the other Otter Creek books, I loved it. I liked how the author wove together Heidi and Quinn’s story with another chapter in Ethan and Serena’s story.
4.12 stars Out of the maybe 8-10 different books i've read from this author, this one is a favorite, but it still doesn't score very high. The romance was great...at first. Then it got rushed and very cheesy. The "bad guy" was not believable to have pulled off what they did. The scene in the woods was way too drawn out in the"planning". Very cheesy ending.
This series features strong women and men who both compliment and match their strength. This combo allows readers to see strengths and human fragility in both.
Good story and book. Second from this author I've read. Plot hangs together well. Author did good dialogue. Romance was sweet but not overbearing. I'll read more from Ms. Deel.
This book is wonderful! The story is complex and wraps up a lose end from the one before and we get a new baby. Yeah! The two main characters knew each other as children and the story of how their families fell away from each other is sad and tragic. But one super alpha hot hero meets up with a kicks ass survivor and solves numerous murders always keeps me wanting more. I love this series and can't wait for the next one. Bravo Rebecca!
Part of the Otter Creek series. Really did like the heroine. Kept my interest up until the end. My only comment, and it is not the book but the cover. Girl is pictured with long blonde hair but in story she is a short haired redhead. Come on people!
I have loved every single installment of the Otter Creek series, and this book was no exception. I have been eagerly awaiting Quinn's story, and I liked the second chance romance aspect that I wasn't expecting. He and Heidi knew each other as children but lost touch after tragedy strikes. Heidi is still not safe, and her life on the run eventually leads her to Otter Creek.
I really liked how this book balance Quinn and Heidi's story with the birth of Serena and Ethan's baby. I miss the original members of the Otter Creek gang, so it was nice to catch up with them a little more than usual. As always, the romance was so sweet and the suspense was on point. I cannot wait for more! I would really love to continue seeing more from previous couples, particular Alex and Ivy!
One of the things I enjoy most about Rebecca's writing is the pacing. It never seems to drag and it manages to combine, romance, suspense and humor seamlessly. This one solved two mysteries and did it well. I always liked Quinn and Heidi/Katie turned out to be an excellent match for him. Levi came across as the whiny one, which was an amusing turnabout. If you have enjoyed her earlier books in the series, you'll like this one and the returning characters.
The main plot of the story just seemed a bit far fetched with the main characters falling in love within a few days if meeting (although they last knew each other when she was 10 and he was in high school). The same with the tying up of the plot-SPOILER-how can an institutionalized character locate the first identity change. Enjoyable but not up to PR of the others in the series.
The first time I read Retribution I wasn't particularly bowled over by it. However, strangely enough, it's now one of my go-to rereads. There's something about the characters and the plot that makes me return again and again when I'm in a book slump or can't face reading anything else. I love the fact the MCs grew up together and have now come full circle to face the tragedy that devastated their lives. I love the fact a Search and Rescue team has been added to Otter Creek.
This was the 8th book of an exciitig group of stories which where well written . each of the stories each got you hooked. Even though he kept telling her he loved her she just couldn't believe him!
Weak plot. Unrealistic reactions of characters to situations.
Poor plot. Events unrealistic and reactions of characters to situations not typical. OK interpersonal reaction between hero & heroine but not so much for others
I love the characters and the suspense in this book (and series). This is Quinn and Heidi's story. The story is so well written. All the layers make it very entertaining. The mystery and the romance are very enjoyable! And I love the dog.
Love this series Quinn what a strong sweet hero and Heidi strong fierce woman. Love all the characters in this series she's been terriorized for years and suffered such loss a must read.
Thumbs up again Rebecca Although, it appears falling in love with complete strangers based on one's unreliable heart is the M.O.D of these characters. Good luck with that in the real world . It cannot be trusted Jer.17:9
even hidden by and inside fortress, a beautiful woman can't escape a serial arsonist bent on killing her. exciting, danger on 2 fronts, old friends, live and a happy ending for all our heroes.
She and her cousin and Dog has been running from danger for years but the crew in Otter Creek might be the answer to prayers. Another great book-enjoyed this whole series
Ms. Deel doesn’t disappoint with Quinn and Heidi’s story. I couldn’t put this book down! A great story about not letting the past define or imprison the future.
