Enemy of the Tates is the first installment in the new Tate-à-Tate series of humorous cozy mysteries. Think Hart to Hart meets Hollywood, with a big dollop of fun.
Mark and Cleopatra Tate, Hollywood’s most famous celebrity couple, are having a really bad day. First Mark is dumped by his agent after his latest blockbuster Frown Hard bombed at the box office, then Cleo finds a dead body in her Maserati, and now the LAPD suspect she just might be the killer.
Things quickly go from bad to worse for the Tates, as a spate of murders shocks Beverly Hills, and it looks like the murderer is… Mark Tate himself!
Now that they’re both wanted by the police and hounded by the paparazzi, the Tates and their crusty bodyguard Julius decide to go after the real killer themselves. Both their lives and careers depend on it. What they discover is a plot to destroy not just them but some of the most famous luminaries in Tinseltown. But can they stop the killer before it’s too late?
Nic has a background in political science and before being struck by the writing bug worked odd jobs around the world (including but not limited to massage therapist in Mexico, gardener in Italy, restaurant manager in India, and Berlitz teacher in Belgium).
When he’s not writing he enjoys curling up with a good (comic) book, watching British crime dramas, French comedies or Nancy Meyers movies, sampling pastry (apple cake!), pasta and chocolate (preferably the dark variety), twisting himself into a pretzel doing morning yoga, going for a run, and spoiling his big red tomcat Tommy.
He lives with his wife (and aforementioned cat) in a small village smack dab in the middle of absolutely nowhere and is probably writing his next ‘Mysteries of Max’ book right now.
It is a humorous novel, but I only found it funny at one point (I noted), and it was a mystery but there was not much of that too. The clues were right in front and the characters were just going around it in circles. I couldn't connect with the characters at all. Julius calling them Mr. and Mrs. T was annoying to a whole new level. According to Mark, Julius is his best friend so shouldn't they be on first name basis? Even if he wanted to be professional, he could call them by their surnames. Mr. and Mrs. T is so damn childish. But I do get irritated at small things so maybe It's just me.
A good read. Somewhat similiar to Hart to Hart but with movie stars. A nice plot but really obvious who the main mastermind was. The characters started off as very superficial but gained depth as the book progressed. She is part of a celebrity movie star couple and had just been to choose a dress. However on returning to her car she finds a dead man holding a gun and a note that he had to kill her. The police however are just focused on her and then her husband when a famous producer is shot by someone who looks just like him. Their security guard/friend knows they didn't do it so the three start investigating. Things get more convoluted when another killing occurs but the actor named couldn't have done it as he was miles away. The trio also come across a plastic surgeon who spends his ife changing the faces of ordinary people into move stars doppelgangers. Can they now find the one pulling the strings or will more attempts be made to kill not only their careers but also physically? Will the truth now become clear? Cleo and Mark Tate Hollywood's famous couple get involved with murders that they are accused of doing. They go through strange and funny things while trying to prove that they are innocent. I love reading Nic Saint's books. There is usually an unusual twist at the end.
Fun mystery read where the solving of the crime is almost an afterthought. Full of over the top characters with equally over the top names, this is a comedy about life, death, revenge, and purpose. If you don't take it too seriously, you will have a fun ride.
