“Oh, my God. You’re a big old nerd under all that alpha male scariness, aren’t you?

This is the book I've been waiting for in this series. I couldn't wait to learn how the mysterious and charismatic Drew Lawless, head of the Lawless siblings, would fall for the redheaded reporter Shelby Gates.
Here's a warning - if you haven't read the first two installments in this series do not read on.

Drew's one goal has always been to bring the murderer of his parents to justice. He followed it single-mindedly and left no room for distraction. Well, until Shelby walked into his organized life. Drew's plan to bring her on board to investigate the murder is well thought-out. Slap a NDA on the table, along with a contract including an irresistible offer, the story of Shelby's life and everything is just peachy.

Our smart investigative reporter doesn't read the small print though and only later she will learn what the ingenious CEO of his programming company is capable of. She is fascinated by the twists this case has and she WANTS that story. It doesn't hurt that Drew is veeerry easy on the eyes. He offers her protection and she offers her connections. Their relationship escalates quickly and soon their very souls are at stake.

Drew is a jerk. No way around. But he has a reason and that's why I could forgive him. Drew was the one who found his parents murdered in their house when he was 14 years old. He was also the one who saved his siblings from the fire in which they would have most likely died, too. Ever since he has been the one everyone relied on. This hero sacrificed pretty much everything so that his siblings would want for nothing, that they could be together again. He lived pretty much in the past from the day he lost his parents up until now. Oftentimes you get a glimpse of the boy who never moved on so I really understood why he was so focused and would not have anything stand in his way. He also has an endearing sort of naivete about him when it comes to relationships. His enthusiasm for Shelby is adorable.

You need to know that I’ve been thrown for a loop and it’s all you. You, Shelby. You’re unlike anyone I’ve ever known and I’m all in. Do you want to know what I’m thinking right now?”
“You’re scheming.”
“I am. I’m trying to figure out how to keep you close to me even when I screw up and do things you won’t like.” Even when you find out I’m lying to you.

Drew is a master manipulator, he knows how to direct people to get them where he wants them. At the same time he keeps most people at arm's length. No one can ever see his demons, not even his siblings. When Shelby crashes into his life, though, he didn't anticipate this sweet yet strong, smart woman. He pushed her away a couple of times and, yes, he did irritate me with his behavior but I still could see that he had never learned to let anyone in. And when he finally did it was amazing. No better grovel than a man on his knees. Literally.

That was the key to Drew. He would take almost anything if he thought he was helping. Taking responsibility was the core of Drew’s personality. She’d been wrong to try to leave him out this morning. He needed to be needed.

Shelby is a clever, observant woman with a quick mind so I did not understand why she didn't read the contract completely. She also has an endless capacity of compassion and understanding for Drew and how he handles things but the way she deals with him was amazing. She sensed that the guy was still this lost boy sometimes and just needed a hug. There is so much patience for this troubled man but also a backbone of steel.
One thing I didn't appreciate was Charlotte (from this author's Masters and Mercenaries series, Love and Let Die) reacting to one Shelby's decisions and making her reconsider. Drew didn't deserve her kindness in that moment.

I loved the banter and how Drew and Shelby gravitated towards each other. Their chemistry was off the charts. They are like night and day in their personality, she is trusting and he highly suspicious of pretty much everything and there is a stark difference how they react to similar situations. Drew lets the anger get the best of him and Shelby is like a balm for his soul.

This is my favorite installment of the series. It had a lot of angst, much more than the other two parts. We get to see all the other Lawless siblings and some of the Taggarts as well as a new addition to the cast. There are some minor twists in this book, the focus is, however, on the romance. I felt satisfied that the villain received their rightful punishment. The only thing that I found missing was an epilogue - it is the conclusion of a series after all.

Lexi Blake has completely won me over with Drew's story. Her writing is effortless. There is suspense and humor and of course good-natured ribbing only siblings can give you. Also, give me a nerd with an alpha tendency and I'm putty in your hands. I am really looking forward to catching up with the backlist of this author.

“You’ve had five complaints against you that HR has had to settle.”
“None of those were for sexual harassment. Not a one.”
“No, they were because you’re a jerk sometimes. You cannot fire someone because they like the wrong house on Game of Thrones.” She didn’t understand his world.
“I was perfectly reasonable. He doesn’t understand the seven kingdoms at all. No Lannister belongs on the Iron Throne. Not even Tyrion.”

Revenge is part of a series and needs to be read in order.

This is the book that I've been waiting for since the series started. Drew Lawless was an undeniable asshole this whole journey and that's what sucked me into his character. There's just something about watching a jerk like him fall off his high horse and I knew his story would be amazing.

Drew actually surpassed my expectations of how much I was going to like him and in the end I came out of this book having a love for his character that I didn't think would be possible. Was he still an ass? Absolutely. But we also got to see the vulnerable side to him, the side that hid how out of touch with the world he could be and the damage his parents death did to him. That was the side that had me swooning over him and wishing it was me he was obsessed with instead of Shelby.

This was the kind of story that you're so sure you know everything that's going to happen by the end. Then you get proven wrong when the author takes a twist and a few turns that you never expected. I loved that about the story, it kept me on my toes and had me entrapped. There were a few things that I did know before they were revealed, yet knowing those things never dropped my interest.

Overall, please don't miss out on this series. Revenge was definitely my favorite out of these three books but they're all good and will have you in suspense.

He would change the rest of his world if it meant he could keep her.

The third and final book in the Lawless series goes out with a serious bang. Full of mind blowing twists and turns, lies and manipulations; Revenge was one suspenseful read. Lies get unraveled and when the truth finally gets revealed, it'll leave your head reeling
She was his fucking salvation.

Drew Lawless was a character I've had an obsession with ever since he was first introduced in Lexi's Masters & Mercenaries series. The closed off and most guarded of the Lawless siblings always gave off some serious broody vibes and I couldn't wait to meet the woman that would bring him down. When
investigative reporter, Shelby Gates, was first introduced in Satisfaction, I had zero doubt she'd be that woman. A woman with her own retribution set in motion, she's like a dog with a bone when it comes to unraveling the truth. Convinced that one of the corporate giants that Drew and his family is also after is responsible for her brother's death, she'll stop at nothing to get to the bottom of it; even at the risk of her own life. Drew doesn't need the nosy little reporter interfering with his revenge plans, especially when his siblings believe that he's done with it all. But to protect his family, Drew will sacrifice everything; even if he knows they may never forgive him for it. And first on his agenda? Manipulate and scheme the gorgeous reporter onto his side. He'll offer her a deal, even if he never plans on delivering on his side of things.
You put everyone first. You make the sacrifices. But I’m not your sacrifice to make. You don’t get to sacrifice me because I won’t let you. I am yours, Andrew Lawless, and you should get with the program.”

While I enjoyed the book as a whole, I also couldn't help feeling slightly let down. Partly it's my own fault for setting my hopes so big for Drew's story and building it up in my mind, because the story definitely didn't go the way I though it would after the second book.

I loved Drew's tough as nails personality and the power nerd thing totally did it for me. However, there was this child-like quality to him at times that just didn't fit the image that he portrayed throughout the entire series. Perhaps that was intentional, perhaps it wasn't, but whatever the case may be, I struggled with that side of him.

There's a lot, and I do mean A LOT that happens with this story. There's enough twists and turns that you'll be eager to keep turning the pages until the very end. On the flip side, all of this also slightly diluted the romance for me. I struggled to really feel that connection with Drew and Shelby. I suppose a part of me really wanted Shelby to be more stern then she was with Drew at times. Shelby understands Drew to the very core, and she understands why he lies and manipulates, even when she's the one that pays the ultimate price. She gets what sacrifices he's making for the sake of his family and so I understand why she's as forgiving with him as she was. But it was also a tough pill to swallow to keep watching Drew push her away and her being that understanding. It sounds horrible, but I wanted to see her push him too. She truly handles him with kid gloves most times, and I wanted those gloves to come off and to really see that tough as nails woman beneath. But again, that's my own expectations getting the best of me.

Ultimately, I just found some of the things that happened here to be almost too unbelieving. The twists are certainly shocking and you don't see them coming, but it's difficult to imagine one family dealing with everything that they did. It's entertaining, sure. But at times it almost felt like soap opera proportions and I felt my enjoyment fizzle.

Don't get me wrong, while it may not have been what I'd hoped; I still enjoyed this book quite a bit; hence the 3.5 star rating. It may not have been my favorite book in the series, but it still hit the spot, and it was a satisfying conclusion.

descriptionThis cover is OK. Miz Blake's M&M series have WAY better covers in my opinion. It makes great use of graphics, and the composition is great. I am just not overly thrilled with the "REVENGE" Firstly it is a bit too far to the left (as is the author's name and bylines). Secondly, the font used just isn't that appealing to the eye. Book one was by FAR the best cover out of all three.description

descriptionI was a little apprehensive going into this one. Book two just wasn't that great and I am STILL trying to bleach my brain of Bran and his 100+ hookers. Thankfully this one reminded me why I adore this author's writing so much.

It goes without saying that this one was well written. Even a less than stellar Lexi Blake book is always well written. It had a non-stop pace. It had twist and turns. It had a VERY interesting development. I cannot wait to see where that is headed. It had angst. It had drama. It had feels. It had a few sex scenes (I wish there had been more). It had a great cast of secondary characters. It had Ian and a baby (hello ovaries) and two very likable main characters (no 100+ hookers for Drew!!)

description

A couple of things kept it from being a perfect read for me. One, I didn't particularly care for Charlotte's little chat with Shelby. I felt at that point the onus was on Drew to do the chasing and some groveling. I didn't think the guilt trip Charlie laid on Shelby was fair and honestly for all the manipulations Drew had pulled by that point he got off WAY too easily in the groveling department. Two, I would have liked to have seen an epilogue.

Those were just small things though, and overall this series has been very enjoyable to read. Two thumbs up from yours truly.description

Maybe my expectations were really just too high that I've set myself up for failure when it came to this book.

I've been anticipating Drew's book since I read Ruthless and that anticipation reached fever pitch when the seeds to his story were planted in the second book. Don't get me wrong, this was not a bad book. The plot was a little convoluted at times and the dialogue a little hard to follow but still a good and enjoyable book. Unfortunately, it just didn't gel the way that Ruthless did for me.

Drew was every bit as complex as siblings. Seeing how his mind operates was the best part of this book for me. And I also enjoyed Shelby. I think their chemistry was good and they play off of each other very well.

Despite some of my issues overall, I still recommend this book to other readers and not just this book but the whole series.

Review @ Midnight Romance

Finally! Drew Lawless isn't just your average hot nerd who build his own company, 4L. I always has soft spot for Drew since his first appearance. He started to plot revenge for his familly. But eventually both his brothers, Riley and Bran met their soulmate on the journey. In the end of Satisfaction, Drew was shocked to found the real culprit. He decided to hide the fact from his family and getting his own revenge.

Drew isn't alone. He's accompanied by his trusted adviser/father figure, Bill Hatchard. Also he bring the fiery red-head crime reporter, Shelby Gates. Acting as a couple wouldn't be a problem since both of them are really attracted to each other. Shelby couldn't fake her feeling towards Drew and she decided to clear Lawless name with some new interesting facts.

I always has soft spot for hot nerd. I kinda liked him at first. He's brilliant and tech god also super HOT (according to some people). Even Shelby easily fallen for him. But Drew is just a plain asshole. His on-off attitude really frustrated me. He is like porcupine; look-but-do-not-touch. It's hard to read his mood. I know he has really bad childhood also trust issue.
“... I want to be the reason you need, Shelby. I want to be the only one you want. I’m willing to take the risk that you’ll use me for the time we’re together because I want you that badly. So kiss me because you want to. Kiss me because it’s part of our cover. I don’t care why as long as you kiss me.”

Shelby is really strong woman and patiently deal with Drew's bipolar attitude. I kinda admired her. The start was really promising. They're moving on the case that I found it has more depth than before. Slowly scratch the surface. Then, it moves slowly with the romance between Drew and Shelby. Somehow when Drew in romance mode, he turns into super cheese. I liked the chemistry and it feels real. But sometimes Drew ruined the moment.

description

The new facts that Shelby found was really interesting and almost blindsided me. Ms Blake is never ceases to amaze me with surprises and twists. I think the story itself is great and nicely done. Then, it stretched into some family drama.
She’d never had a man who could make her do the things he did. She’d thrown off all norms, all societal niceties. They didn’t matter because Drew Lawless was such a brooding hottie that her panties melted off and her body spread wide the minute she knew he needed her.

Unfortunately, my issues is mainly with Drew and Shelby. As lovely as they're together, I didn't feel the heat or passion with their love. They're just too cool-as-a-cucumber. Maybe not the best, because I feel like Drew is the damsel in distress in this story and Shelby is the prince. He's too busy with his own feeling (reminds me of Kash Kamdar from Arranged in M&M series). Quite disappointing, but overall a great read.
“... I’ll always save you, Andrew Lawless. You are the be-all, end-all of my life, and I won’t ever leave you. When you’re ready, your future is here. I love you.”

Fuck this book. I'm gonna write a more detailed review tomorrow but for now... fuck. This. Book. Biggest waste of time ever. I'm seething right now.

----Alright time for the full review----

To an average reader, this book will be fine. But I've read over 1,000 books and this shit doesn't fly with me anymore. I'm cynical and I'm cranky after reading it and i don't understand why there are so many 5 star reviews.

This book was bad. So many things were wrong with it but the main two were;
1.) Extremely convoluted storyline + too many characters to keep track of.
2.) The romance aspect and the "you have to fight for him" plot line.

The tagline of this book should have been "Revenge: Where Everyone Knows a Hacker." The story was so convoluted it left me with a 'what the fuck' feeling and not in a good way. In one word: it was dumb. The author doesn't know how to write a series where each book, the stakes get higher. The reader has to read pages and pages and PAGES of utter non sense and the characters rehashing everything that just happened over and over again.

The romance was absolutely terrible; it was only 40% of the book. I was getting excited for an excellent grovel by the hero and it never happened- not even close. The author couldn't come up with anything original so OF COURSE she makes the hero a martyr and pushes the heroine away so she can "be safe" and OF COURSE he does it in a really hurtful way........ and then the heroine has to chase after him...again.

I freaking lost it. Because all of the female characters in the book told her she was being stupid for not chasing after him again and again and again. After everything the hero said and did, there needed to be a HUGEEEEE grovel. An earth shattering grovel. A grovel to end all grovels. But none was there.

And the hero never apologizes for all of the hurtful things he said because theres too much fucking 'action' in the book and it gets in the way of them hashing out a conversation.

The couple gets back together in the last 3 pages on the book with zero epilogue.

Don't waste your time on this book. Complete waste of space on my eReader. Some might read my review and think, "Whats the big deal? That doesn't seam to bad." But it is. I have trouble accuratly describing my emotions during my readings. It's too complex. I felt a little sick to my stomach while I was reading it. So hopefully my goodreads friends who are in the same boat as me will understand.

I have truly LOVED every single book I have ever read from Lexi Blake! Her talent knows no bounds and I just feel so ecstatic and honored to have witnessed such greatness! Over and over again Ms. Blake thrills me with her sexy and suspenseful stories, her amazing and unforgettable characters, and her flawless and vivid writing. I cannot and will not ever get enough of her brand of storytelling. REVENGE is another example of her ability to bring her readers to whole other world, where we can escape our realities and take a seductive, passionate, and thrilling journey. It feels like I've been waiting for Drew Lawless' story for a long time, and let me just tell you...it was SO worth the wait!

"I want to be the one who makes you feel good. Let me do that for you. For however long it lasts, I'll be your man. I'll take care of you."

Ok, so Lexi Blake has brought to life some incredible heroes, but there is something so enduring about the eldest Lawless brother. He may be the oldest, but he is the most lost and it just broke my heart. And Shelby Gates? Well, she is my hero! I absolutely LOVED her style. I loved how she approached life and I adore how she approaches Drew. She knows how to handle him. She understands him, and it just makes the fireworks between them, that much more brilliant!

"I want you more than my next breath."

A contracted business arrangement turns into so much more in Ms. Blake's third installment of the INCREDIBLE Lawless Series. Both Drew and Shelby need something from each other, and while Drew puts it under the guise of a 'contract', deep down, he wants something more, something he is too afraid to ask for, but Shelby catches on quick and is determined to heal him, no matter what. And like every suspenseful Lexi Blake romance, there is danger around every corner, and even though Drew has his demons, he will do whatever it takes to keep his family and Shelby safe, even if that means sacrificing himself to do it.

If you are an avid follower of my reviews, you probably know how much I LOVE Lexi Blake's stories, but until you pick one up yourself, you will not fully understand my addiction. So I challenge you to pick up a Lexi Blake romance and not fall in love the minute you turn the first page, because that's how it started for me, and there was never any going back from there.

And if you are a follower, then you know that I would not end this review without a dose of Big Tag. So, here you go and ENJOY!

"...if anyone asks me questions about why I'm here, I intend to answer I'm here because I love my family and because Andrew Lawless, while clueless in the real world, is the greatest lover on the planet."

"No, he's not,"
Big Tag shot back. "I have the T-shirt. Does he have the T-shirt? Charlie told me there was only one made."

Spoiler Free – although it is so hard to keep being SF. I want to shout out everything about this book.

Revenge, lies, betrayal, secrets, and heart-break this book has it all. And of course what would a Lexi Blake book be without Ian Taggart in it? Half as funny let me tell you that.

I have amended my review for book 2 as that it was more of a filler/StepStone to get where we meant to be getting to all the good stuff here in book 3.

After the major twist plot in book 2 Drew has officially put his plans to rest. Unofficially he has hired Shelby Gates to continue the research of the revenge that he wants. Previous revelation means his family cannot know. Tight knit clan and all that so I don’t really see that happening. But let’s just go with it.

We have a never surprise in the book and well once again I did not see that coming. There is so much action that it is well paced and full of twists and turns. I adore Lexi and her writing and here it is no different.

I wasn’t too sure about Drew to begin with. He is a douchecanoe King/ CEO of epic proportions but deep down he is just that lost little boy. He grew on me. Has be known to happen. Everything for Drew is very transactional. Shelby is a good strong female lead but with time she kind of becomes a mini doormat at the end. Thankfully Charlotte set her right.

The romance between Drew and Shelby was good and the sex scenes were well written although I skimmed at times. I really enjoyed it but it’s not Lexi’s best work but still at the end I wanted to know more of the why behind the actions of the person.

Love you Lexi. Look forward to more. Fantastic ending to a series that has been an absolute joy to read.

Definitely, definitely read the other books first. I couldn't follow a big chunk of the story.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am going to have a difficult time rating this book as I had a difficult getting into the story. This book is a continuation of a series and you absolutely have to read them first. The synopsis should really reflect that for the readers.
What I can comment on is that I have read many of Lexi Blake's books. She is strong author that I never hesitate to pick up and enjoy. Her writing is flawless and her characters are strong and passionate. This story pulls in a bit of suspense too.
I love Drew and Shelby together. The romance is off the hook and the steam factor is good! I wish I could have enjoyed the story a lot more. As it was it took me a week to read this because I really did not know who anyone was and I often got bored and lost interest.
You must read the others first! The 4 stars is because I am not going to downgrade the author for this, but rather the synopsis, and the fact I really did not enjoy the first half of this book.
WOW! What a fan-freaking-tastic conclusion to a roller coaster ride of a series. The end of Satisfaction had me reeling, screaming “WTF just happened” and left me wanting more… More passion, more sexy Lawlessness and more answers. I couldn’t wait to get my greedy hands on Drew’s book and finally untangle the convoluted web of secrets and deceptions behind his father’s murder. Although my anticipations ran high, deep down I did not want this saga to end. Seeing all their heartaches and joys, I fell in love with the Lawless family and will miss them tremendously. Lexi Blake has out done herself with another intense romance filled with twists and turns that had me constantly on edge. Revenge was by far my favorite read within the trilogy.
This is Drew’s story and he stole the show and my heart in this read. To fully understand his character, his experiences and the complexities of the story line, you’ll need to read the prior two installments. He’s a survivor. A fighter. A shrewd and successful businessman. Above all - Drew loves his family to a fault, selflessly putting their safety, happiness and protection before his own. Wary of outsiders, very few are permitted into his inner circle of trust, and with good reason. On the surface he’s guarded and manipulative, bringing the broody-temperamental-reclusive hero persona to a whole new level of sexy. But seeing his painful past, I understood the revenge seeking man he needed to be. I adored him despite his often-assholish like tendencies and I could not wait for that heartwarming moment when the iceman cracked under the weight of sweet Shelby’s affections. That’s when I truly fell for all things Drew, seeing him change from detached and unapproachable to so openly loving.
Shelby’s the perfect match for the likes of Drew. This tenacious reporter, hired to investigate the decades old murder of Ben Lawless, has a soft spot when it comes to our hero. Beyond compassionate and understanding, she endearingly tends to all of Drew’s needs - showering him with love while melting his icy heart. Together, their sexual chemistry explodes, making this the hottest read of the series. The connection they share is powerful and instantaneous.
Once again Blake had me under her spell, imprisoned within the pages of her riveting love story. This read had it all…lust, passion, intensity, unending plot twists, lovable characters, nefarious villains and touching emotional moments. For fans of romantic suspense, this series is a must read.
This third entry in the Lawless Brothers series is probably the best yet. Drew Lawless is the older brother who works hard to protect his siblings, while finding the people who murdered his parents. Of the four known siblings, only he knows the truth about his parents deaths. His goal is to take the culprit down, but his choice of weapon is a little questionable.
Shelby Gates is a reporter-a good one- and is totally taken off guard by Drew's proposition: he wants her to investigate the death of his parents, in exchange for a tell-all book. Drew goes in knowing he's drawing a target on Shelby's back, but feels he can protect her. But can he protect her from himself?
The characters were great-strong but flawed. There are surprises along the way, lots of strong emotions, and great flashes of humor. The strength of the connection between Drew and Shelby is titanium strong, but also fragile. We get glimpses of the Taggarts from the tangental Masters and Mercenaries series, along with flashes of the other characters in this series.
Shelby was bright, dedicated, and totally in love with Drew. Drew was a bit clueless, but finally reached a point where I didn't want to kick him in a sensitive area every few minutes.
Overall, a delightful read from a delightful author.
I LOVED this book! I have eagerly been anticipating the story of Drew Lawless since Ruthless and Drew did not disappoint. Socially awkward and not good at interpersonal relationships, Drew comes across as closed off and aloof. He loves his family and will do anything to protect them and get revenge on those who tried to destroy them. When he meets the gorgeous journalist Shelby, he is instantly attracted to her and wants her. He also realizes he could use her help and so a relationship of convenience is Drew's brilliant idea. She'll help him uncover the truth about his parents murder and he'll help her with her career. If only it were that easy with Drew. I love how Drew couldn't control his feelings for Shelby and had no idea what he was doing. I love that Shelby is a strong female heroine is isn't afraid to stand her ground with Drew and others. She doesn't back down and isn't a pushover. Besides the amazing romance in this story - there was also the mystery and suspense of who killed the Lawless parents and quite a few surprised thrown in. I have really enjoyed this series - I highly recommend it to anyone who loves a good romantic suspense with twists and turns and steamy romance.
First Impressions
Revenge is the finale of the "Lawless" trilogy and this is where we see the culmination of what has been building in this trilogy really come to a head and get the climax of the plot building. And what a WILD ride this one turned out to be. Such a tangled web that this author wove within this story and every time you think you know what is happening....then a new twist comes into play. I will say that the plot of mystery and danger is what took the focus in the book. The romance took a backseat which was the only aspect that was slightly disappointing for me.
First Line
"This is a mistake."
The Main Protagonists
The Hero: Drew Lawless
The Heroine: Shelby Gates
Summary
Drew Lawless will do anything to get the revenge for what happened to his family and when he learns who the true villain in their family disaster, he decides to keep it quiet from his family and to gain a friend and a mutual interest that will help him fight to gain the truth. But even though they come together with mutual interests and goals, there is a tension between them. Drew is so full of passion and thirst for vengeance he forgets about the human condition. Shelby while she has similar aspects, she has a softer heart for those that are innocent. Both come together to bring down the person that has destroyed so many lives.
What I Loved
I loved how the plot really built within the story. There were some quiet moments between Drew and Shelby that was beyond fascinating. And then we have the way in which they are working together, build a good friendship for each other and how they really compliment each other so well. They both have a thirst for revenge but have unique ways in which they approach that vengeance. Drew was much darker of a hero than I actually expected. And Shelby has the bubby light that really delivers such balance. The dynamic between these two just seemed to fit for them so well. The plot is what had me in a chokehold for this story. I just had to see how it would all be resolved but man my heart just broke for this family.
What I Struggled With
The pacing could have been slightly better here, the hero was hard to like at times. Quite frankly he was a jerk lol And I feel like the focus was the plot and I do think the author could have taken 50-100 more pages to get more romance within the story. It really suffered for the plot device but that can happen with this author sometimes.
Narration
A very solid narration, not the best or anything, but it was a decent one. I think the male POV was better than the female POV though.
Overall View
Revenge was a fierce and protective installment that really dug deep into corruption and greed. It had some feels, some heart and plenty of thrills and chills with a satisfying ending to a great trilogy.
In this third and final installment of the Lawless Series, Lexi Blake has turned up the notch in heat, suspense, and unexpected twist and turns as she has readers like myself on the edge of their seat as we await the epic conclusion of this series and the much anticipated story of Drew Lawless.
 photo 0eda8cd2d01c42ffa3f656bb5cd641_zps68nukfc6.gif I want to be the reason you need, Shelby. I want to be the only one you want. I’m willing to take the risk that you’ll use me for the time we’re together because I want you that badly. So kiss me because you want to. Kiss me because it’s part of our cover. I don’t care why as long as you kiss me.”
#RevengeLexiBlake
Revenge was a fast paced romantic suspense that continues off from the last book and so I highly advise readers to read the first two books in order to know what is going on and who are the key players in the story line. We all know Drew’s quest for revenge and so toss in Shelby Gates, a feisty investigative reporter whom we met in Satisfaction into the mix then it’s pretty much given Lexi Blake will hold you hostage as these two will take us on a whirlwind where truths, lies, secrets, duplicity are unfolded and exposed. As Drew and Shelby work together, danger begins to creep upon them threatening their safety and Drew’s siblings. How far will Drew go for revenge and to protect the people he loves?
 photo 0eda8cd2d01c42ffa3f656bb5cd641_zps68nukfc6.gif She’d looked at him with hot eyes and asked him to make love to her. He wasn’t a man who made love. He fucked. So why did he find himself nodding and agreeing? Because this meant more to him.”
Lexi Blake is one of those authors who doesn’t need plenty of chapters to hook you because once you start reading the first page you are automatically hooked. She has this ability to hold you hostage and let me just say this series had consumed me. I wanted to know every tidbit of information and family secrets. And Revenge was one of those books that demanded your undivided attention. Drew and Shelby’s relationship was palpable and intense from the start and as a reader, we knew these two were a perfect match for each other as they healed and pieced broken pieces within each other. So all there is left to say is go read this book and series as the writing was phenomenal and the characters were intriguing.
⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2
Overview:
Drew & Shelby. Book 3's plot is the conclusion of the Lawless family story (4 children orphaned years ago and their need for justice/revenge). The books should be read in order. Each book contains a different love story, but there is a common thread throughout each book as they try to uncover who murdered their parents. Dual POV. It has a HEA.
Drew::
Drew is a software geek who (due to his parents murders) grew up too fast and missed out on developing social skills. He likes to plot and plan and doesn't have much of a personal life. Inbetween building a billion dollar empire and trying to care for his siblings, he has been scheming how to take revenge on the people who murdered his parents. Because his childhood was out of his control, he's turned into a man who wants to control everything around him. He can be manipulative and a jerk at times, but he is fiercely loyal and protective of the ones he loves.
Shelby::
Shelby is an investigative journalist. Her father abandoned her family when she was young and her mother and brother have died, so she has no family left. Shelby is tenacious and she's like a dog with a bone when she's trying to dig up information. She definitely doesn't take no for an answer and I liked that about her. She is independent, smart and has a lot of backbone. She proves that she is loyal to Drew and his family.
Together::
Drew and Shelby met in book 2 (via her hacking skills on the dark web) and they are intrigued and fascinated by each other. Drew manipulates a situation, and before you know it Shelby is living with him and they work together to bring the murderer to justice. Drew withholds a secret from Shelby that she finds out about near the end of the book. Additionally, Drew and Shelby withhold a BIG secret from his family and they discover that about 1/2 way through the book.
These two have great banter and good chemistry and they need each other. She provides him unconditional support and challenges him as she doesn't cower at his directives. She's patient and tolerant with him and can be a buffer between those awkward social situations. On the flip side, Drew provides Shelby safety and companionship. He shows her that they make an awesome team and are better together than apart.
Overall::
I went into this book with high expectations and after the cliffhanger from the last book I was anxious to read this one. I felt like all of this noise and distraction revolving around the mystery of their parents took away from the romance between Drew and Shelby. Also, there was no epilogue and it just seemed to end too abruptly. Overall, the series was entertaining and enjoyable to read. However, this last book had a few too many twists thrown at me and I felt like it was a bit too much.
Quotes:
“Does this mean you forgive me for maybe, possibly buying your apartment building and having it torn down so you can’t go back to it and be murdered?”
“All I have to do to get a hug is give one of your down-on-her-luck friends a superexpensive home.”
“I thought about using lasers, but Shelby nixed the idea. I don’t think she’s keen on living in a house where we cut off the limbs of intruders. She’s weak on crime.”
-The finale to the Lawless Series...for now. I’ve learned to never say never because I have enjoyed Lexi Blake’s offshoot of the Masters & Mercenaries series featuring the Lawless siblings. If Ms. Blake chose to continue with this series, I would not object (hint, hint, nudge, nudge).
-More of a straight contemporary/romantic suspense. I love me some well-done BDSM and Ms. Blake knows her way around a BDSM relationship, without a doubt. However, I love that the Lawless series has focused more on the suspense and the romances have been been more vanilla than not. It’s a nice change of pace without sacrificing the level of heat Ms. Blake can bring.
-Hot alpha nerd alert. Drew, the eldest Lawless sibling, is probably the most damaged one of all, as he is the one who saved his siblings from the fire that covered up the murders of their parents and he scraped and clawed his way to bring his family back together and he’s been driving the revenge train to find out who murdered them. He is THE hottest hero in this bunch and he is my favorite. His need to control and manipulate situations to get what he wants is ingrained in him and he’s definitely twisted in his need for that control. I loved his character arc and the way love softens his edges but does more to bring out his positive attributes, not really changing him. He’s the one who his family turns to and he is the one man who needed a strong heroine to go toe to toe with him or this romance wouldn’t work. Thank you RomanceJesus, Shelby is that heroine.
-Ballsy heroine. Shelby has been investigating the Lawless murders and has not hesitated to butt heads with Drew, which pretty much told me that they were destined to get together. I was not wrong. I liked Shelby’s pragmatic side and her empathy for Drew and why he is the way he is. She never felt as if she was just womansplaining for him and she would call him on his BS in a way that worked for me.
-The wrapup to the mystery is satisfying. There’s some long standing questions I had that were answered, though I don’t think the bombshell dropped at the end of the last book wasn’t topped, in my opinion. My only quibble is the inevitable breakup felt a little obvious, and waiting for the climax of the story to come was a little slow, but when it explodes the tension more than makes up for the wait. I think it was satisfying to see the fallout from that bomb play out and the ripples it caused throughout the canvas. Now, that doesn’t mean that there weren’t surprises in this book and one big surprise is giving me hope for the future, so I finished this with a smile and a bit of hope for more, but if there isn’t I am more than happy with the way it all wrapped up..
The Bottom Line 4.5 stars
I really enjoyed this wrap up to the Lawless series and Drew’s my newest hot nerd hero crush. . There’s glimpses of old favorites mixed in with a few surprises, and all in all, good romantic suspense is had. If you were curious about Ms. Blake, but weren’t into the BDSM, I think this is the series for you. I definitely recommend it.
Another great read for us from Lexi Blake.The more I read her books the more that I fall in love with each and everyone of them.
I always pick a favorite character that I love more than the others and this time around mine is going to be Shelby.
Why? So many reasons she was intelligent,patient,kind,smart,protective,had a sense of humor was driven but most of all she was just a loving and giving person who always put others first .She cared about their needs and wants before her own.I loved the chemistry she had with Drew as their was always sexual tension between the two of them right from their first meeting even before they were together.Their sexual encounters were super hot as well as sensual.I loved how she was always making bargains with Drew in order to turn things in her favor but all along just playing along as she wanted the same things Drew did.
Sneaky little vixen!
Drew on the other hand was the total opposite of Shelby.I found him to be more of an a*ss most of the time,protective of his siblings,dangerous,powerful,smart sexy as sin, just really sex on a stick.As the story progressed I thought that he was less as an a** and more just socially awkward in dealing with women and messy feelings.I felt that he was lonely not necessarily unhappy just that he needed someone to love and care about him be and be a equal partner for him and give him hell when he needed a shove.I loved how he always thought about is brothers and sisters happiness before his own.He was so protective of them god help the person trying to hurt them.
Shelby and Drew made an awesome team when it came to trying to prove that his mother murdered his father now that Drew knows that she is alive and gunning for him and his family yet again.
This story had so much going on to keep your interest.And we loved it from cover to cover.We dealt with the ups and downs with Drew's ongoing relationship with Shelby as he messes up time and time again as he just isn't good and the relationship thing.The twists and turns the story took the surprises that popped up.I loved the siblings and their spouses and all their different personalities that added humor to the story that had you laughing out loud. Big Tag made me laugh more than once. Defiantly a consent favorite of mine throughout the series.Loved how strong the women were in this story whether they carried the name Gates,Lawless,or Taggart. This for me is the type of story that you could go on and on on about the things that you loved most about it and definitely goes into the keeper pile where I am sure that I will read time and time again.
Looking forward to reading the rest in this series as well.
This series should be read in order which I didn't yet I soon got the gist but I don't like a relationship that starts with deceit. That along with a too negative hero, too positive heroine and mediocre plot left me wanting more. It did have an exciting finish but I skipped a lot. Drew draws up a contract with reporter Shelby to work together to avenge his fathers murder.
Title: Revenge
Author: Lexi Blake
4 unexpected stars
How I wish I had read the previous instalments of this series before getting my hands on Revenge. Since I hadn't done so beforehand, there were many things that just les right over my head, especially when it came to Drew's mother and the death of his parents. To say that it took me quite some time to get a semblance of an idea of what happened would be an understatement. It only made me wish more and more that I had known that it was important to have read the previous books to get an idea of what the backstory is about this family since it would seem that it's not just about Drew, but the whole of the four Lawless less siblings.
4 breath taking dreams
Even though I wasn't able to catch up on the bigger picture, there was absolutely no denying the fact that Lexi Blake knows how to weave a story. To make you fall deep into it and make you forget about things like time, responsibilities and all the other things going on in your life. Drew and Shelby's story was captivating and interesting. I wondered the entire time if Drew would ever be able to drop his ideas of revenge in light of what Shelby does to him... and he to her. I really enjoyed the fact that Shelby was more than capable to dishing it out as good as she got, which was absolutely refreshing. As much as I enjoyed Revenge, the fact that I didn't know what had happened earlier was difficult to surpass since it was such a huge aspect of the series, but I still love how Lexi Blake can bring you through an adventure you never expected.
3,5*
Малко не ми достигна да дам 4*, но книгата е хубава, хареса ми и се чете много бързо. Не ми достигна нещо, защото отношенията между двамата герои повтаряха втората книга - Дрю и Шелби започват фалшива връзка, за да прикрият истинската задача на Шелби, а именно да разследва. Фалшива връзка, но с бонуси и изобщо не стана ясно кога прерасна в любов, при положение, че Дрю се опъваше като магаре на мост.
СПОЙЛЕР!!!!!
Много ми беше интересно в книгата историята около майката психопат. Прекалено хладнокръвно тази жена беше извършила всички възможни злини, но най-голямата да убие и децата си беше върхът. Не ми се е случвало да чета за подобна сюжетна линия и това си правеше тази книга уникална и много интересна. Радвам се, че мръсницата си получи заслуженото, въпреки интригите които се опита да направи.
I thought we saw our major plot twist of the Lawless series in the last book, Satisfaction. But Lexi Blake twisted us up just a little more in this final and conclusory book of the series - and it definitely wasn't a move that I saw coming. I have enjoyed this close-knit family of siblings with a tragic past, and I was very excited to get to the story of Andrew Lawless, family patriarch.
Andrew Lawless is not just the family patriarch. He is also a billionaire tech genius, and a bit of a geek with an inability to deal with people. Everything to Andrews is war, and he is trying to figure out where to move his players around the battle field to best suit his purpose. That includes the bombshell investigative reporter, Shelby Gates. In Satisfaction, we saw glimpses of Drew's unwitting attraction and grudging respect for the spitfire reporter, but that didn't stop him from shutting her investigation down at every turn. But after the big bombshell from the last book, Drew has decided that, in an effort to protect his family, he will bring Shelby in on the investigation, and maybe a little action on the side as well. Even though he was dictatorial, I adored Drew's socially awkward behavior. I also admired his drive, determination and intelligence.
Shelby Gates became obsessed with the players in the Lawless family drama after her brother, also a reporter, was murdered while chasing the story of Patricia Cain. When Andrew Lawless sends a private jet for her, her curiosity won't let her ignore the invitation. And when Drew dangles some very juicy bate in front of Shelby's inquisitive nose, she cannot resist temptation. I don't normally like reporter heroines... but Shelby was okay with me. She wasn't trying to totally expose our hero, and she wasn't insensitive to the Lawless past and plight. I did like how she handled Drew, and how she was supportive in a way that he did not know he needed.
The relationship between these two unfolded at a nice pace to match the story. There was quite a bit of chemistry there already, and Drew did apply himself to intimacy with a single-minded focus that was deliciously steamy. That being said, some of the back and forth on the relationship did get tiring and aggravating. I would have liked to see them building and strengthening their bond more fully by a certain point... but we still had a push and pull going to nearly the end. That's just a personal preference for me, and it may not bother you the same way.
The suspense plot for the series is finally fully revealed. We saw where it was going after the twist in Satisfaction, so you already know who the villain is. As a result, the suspense aspect in this final installment was trying to determine just how said villain was going to carry out her evil deeds. I was pleased with this part of the story, and often found myself rushing through the romance bits to get back to the plot conflict. Overall, I am happy with this series and would recommend it to fans of steamy romantic suspense. My one regret for the series as a whole is that I happened to be reading all of these books at times when I was continually interrupted by work (or work travel) and I couldn't focus on them for any substantial length of time. That always impedes my enjoyment when I have to keep putting the book down and coming back to it later. So a re-read might be in order at a later date.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from the publisher, Berkley.
I've been not so patiently wait for the conclusion of this series and I have to say I was not disappointed! I loved Drew’s character but at times I wanted to knock some sense into him when it came to Shelby. He was very stubborn and refused to see what he could have when it came to her and kept pushing her away. I also wanted to tell Shelby to stop letting Drew treat you like that as well. Yes, he does have issues but that's no excuse for his behavior. This story was filled with a lot of twist and turns and at one point I wasn't sure who could be trusted as I kept reading. Lexi Blake has a way of sucking you in with her writing. This was an enjoyable read and sad that the series has come to an end!
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with an advance copy of Revenge for an honest review.
Revenge is sexy, emotional and the perfect ending to this series!!! I loved the passion and the blond tech god! Drew was a mystery to me in the other books and cold but in this book getting his POV and seeing how Shelby sees him too, I fell hard for him. This book has so much heart and hope. I will be rereading and rereading again.
Ммм... За трети път една и съща история. Единствената разлика е разобличаването на "дъ биг бад уолф".
Липсва оригиналност. Липсва и особена дълбочина. Развръзката е представена в 2-3 изречения и е крайно незадоволителна.
When Drew Lawless discovers a fatal flaw in his plan to avenge his parents’ deaths, he turns to the one woman he'd promised he wouldn't touch. He offers her a deal, one that will bring her into his investigation, his life, and his bed. Investigative reporter Shelby Gates never dreamed how twisted the case would become—or how fascinated she would be with Drew. Every day they spend together binds them. And every night brings her closer to realizing he might be the man for her. As Drew's feelings for Shelby grow, so does the danger. From the streets of Dallas to Austin’s high-tech business world, Drew and Shelby play a game begun twenty years before—a game they will win, or die trying.
Alright so Revenge is the third book in the Lawless series if you haven't read the previous books I highly suggest you start at the beginning this isn't a journey you want to start without knowing where it all began.
The whole family involvement is heavy and complex so pay attention because details are important in Revenge.
Shelby and Drew were great together and I liked that Blake really tried to go out on this series with a major climax but in some ways it sort of went a little beyond which sort of crushed my belief in some of the things that came up... but when you're trying to make it go might as well go all out.
So hey, I give Blake props for that but it made me conflicted about how many stars I wanted to rate this book. I must confess I'm a little partial to the series and seeing as how I was wanting to know what the final reveal would be I uprated. Revenge is a great read.
Revenge wrapped up this thrill ride of a series perfectly. The Lawless series is a perfect blend of suspense, lies, intrigue, romance and geeky sexiness. <---Who could ask for more?
Really, can we coin the term 'geeky sexiness' and use it exclusively for this series? We really should. Blake mastered it with these characters, especially Drew. He's like an Alpha Geek and I'm in love. <3
Blake also mastered creating the perfect counterparts for boys. Ladies who could hold their own when needed, stand up to their men when needed, but also had enough softness that allowed these dominating personalities to feel like they could protect them.
In short, The Lawless series has it all and I was captivated from start to stop.
