Like X-Files meets Die Hard. A scientist and the federal agent who is hoping to keep her alive are trapped in a building with a horde of hungry vampires. It wouldn’t be that unusual of a night, if it weren’t for the zombies. Caged takes place in an alternate version of modern-day Northern Virginia, where vampires, commonly known as vees, are considered our greatest threat. Cate, a scientist who works for the National Vampire Intelligence Agency (NVIA), is researching a vaccine to immunize humans against vees. Daniel, one of the vees set to be part of her experiments, has other plans. Mason, a special agent with the NVIA, would rather be anywhere else than in the research facility, especially once the zombies break out.
An excellent book that pulls you in and keeps your attention fully engaged throughout. Of course, I would expect nothing less from a talented storyteller of Robinson's caliber. Well worth a read for any vampire and/or zombie fan.
A Vampire book set in the suburbs of Washington DC. Scientists are trying to find a cure for Vampirism and an experiment has gone horribly wrong. Who will survive? And what have the scientists unleashed in the DC area?
This is a fast read, and it was a good palate cleanser for me. The themes of the book reminded me a lot of the themes in the original X-men...can we co-exist with mutants or do mutants take over the world?
I'll be interested to read the next book in the series when it comes out.
Caged is a thrill ride from start to finish. Robinson's new spin on the vampire genre doesn't delve into mysticism and magic, but plants us firmly in what could pass for the real world. And that is what makes this tale all the more disturbing. This world seems so familiar, so normal and mundane - except for the vampires. This dystopian vision manages to simultaneously present us with a murky and frightening milieu while snaring us in the murky waters of a morality play where all of our pre-conceptions are challenged. All that, and it is so much fun. Robinson does not disappoint.
