After narrowly escaping with her life, Aphrodite wakes up to find herself at the demigods' base camp--a gorgeous tropical island. Powerless and injured, she has no choice but to glamour herself as a demigoddess in order to find out what's really going on. Lucky for her, she's not alone. Ares is with her, also in disguise. But she soon realizes she might be more of a liability than an asset when her panic attacks and nightmares threaten to expose them both.
Ares is as anxious as anyone to shut down the demigods' plot. But right now, all he can think about is Aphrodite. He almost killed her, for Gods' sake! And though the timing couldn't be any worse, he's falling hard and fast. He'll do anything to protect her . . . even if it means sacrificing himself.
Still, they find allies in the most unexpected places . . .
More goddess than demigoddess, Medea is married to the rebel leader, Jason. But there's something odd going on. Jason is acting very strange, and Medea finds herself drawn to a new demigoddess who mysteriously arrived on the island half-dead. She senses there's more to this visitor than meets the eye. Little does she guess . . .
War is coming, there's no doubt. But, in her weakened state, does Aphrodite have any hope of surviving it?
Kaitlin Bevis spent her childhood curled up with a book and a pen. If the ending didn't agree with her, she rewrote it. Because she's always wanted to be a writer, she spent high school and college learning everything she could to achieve that goal. After graduating college with a BFA and Masters in English, Kaitlin went on to write The Daughters of Zeus series.
I spent my childhood curled up with a book, and a pen. If the ending didn’t agree with me, I rewrote it. Now, I write my own endings, middles, and beginnings for the Daughters of Zeus series, including the best selling novel, Persephone.

CHARACTERS- If you read my review for the previous book I'm the series you know I hate Aphrodite in this book and my opinions on her have stayed the same. I still do not like her I don't think I ever will and I wish I could get into her character but I can't.
ROMANCE- So Ares and Aphrodite are gorgeous together. In the original mythology Aphrodite and Ares are quite different from this retelling and for the better.
PLOT- The plot was interesting enough and very enjoyable but still not as good as the first 3 books in the series.
ENDING- I will read the next book but I don't think I will enjoy it.
OMG, I so loved that book ! I can't even think straight, the end killed me !
I love Aphrodite and Ares together so much, they have one of my favorite relationship of all Greek Mythology. And I love their personality in this story. I'm so swooning over Ares, gahh~ Every glimpses of his past torn me apart. He's done horrible things but his personality is so opposed to that, I love how Ares was imagined here. It's fascinating how Ares is my favorite character in this series, and I just loathe him in the Covenant series by Jennifer L Armentrout ! (link to Half-Blood) Aphrodite is also a very good hero, I really enjoyed reading from her point of view. Overall, their relationship is amazing, they are eachother' salvation. I hope they'll stay together in the next book !
At first I liked Medea, but I don't know, I just don't click with demigods, it's just a personal taste. I don't trust them ahah !
I'd like to thank Kaitlin Bevis for creating such a good retelling of Greek Mythology in this series. It's just mindblowing to see how each myths form a coherent plot, it's so clever and interesting. For example, the way Aphrodite and Hephaistos' marriage is represented, ahhh~ so brilliant ! So, if you happen to read my review Kaitlin, I deeply thank you, as a Greek Mythology lover ! I'm a fan ! :D
Once again, the sequel to the Daughters of Zeus series did not disappoint me, not at all ! I hope Venus Rising will come soon ! 5/5 stars and an instant favorite !
I received a free copy of this ebook through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
From the book description, I anticipated that this book would be told through three perspectives: Aphrodite's, Ares's, and Medea's. Sadly, Ares didn't get any chapters--I was looking forward to seeing inside his head more. But that's okay.
Aphrodite has definitely grown on me since she first appeared earlier in the series, and so has Ares. I like how although he's the god of war, he is not truly bloodthirsty. Bevis is successfully giving the characters in Greek mythology more dimension than the characteristics to which they're commonly reduced, and even those have received a bit more depth and explanation. It's interesting to see how the actual myths about Aphrodite are playing out in these books. I was wondering how Hephaestus would play into things, and although there's not anything between them, we're given an idea about how she ends up marrying him (not a spoiler--it's Greek mythology, and it doesn't even happen in this book).
Medea practically required my pity and sympathy right from the start, though not intentionally. She's not a "pity me" character, but she still has lots of room to grow a backbone. Her life has been a hard one, to put it lightly, and her troubles didn't stop when Jason pulled her out of her previous circumstances. She's the type of character that makes me want to jump into the book and bust up some faces, and I kind of hope she does it herself. I was torn on her , I admit. Part of me sided with her, and part of me with Jason. Well, not with Jason, necessarily--we just shared one part of his opinion. It's a fine, very thought-provoking line.
I hated Jason from the beginning. There's not much else to say about him right now except I still hate him.
How it ends:
Goodreads doesn't have the next book, Venus Rising, listed yet. But it's supposed to come out sometime this year.
Note: Some swearing, but I don't recall f words. Implied sex (really, nothing on the page--yes!).
Dang, I forgot how good she is. I haven't read a Kaitlin Bevis book in years but I wanted, needed, to embrace something that had brought me joy in the past, so I picked up her next book. You won't regret continuing this series. Kaitlin succeeds where numerous mainstream published authors fail - she has created a sequel series as entrancing as the original.
The 5th installment in the Daughters of Zeus series and the 2nd of the novels with Aphrodite as the MC. The development of the romance between Aphrodite and Ares builds quite nicely in this book and I really enjoyed the new characters and subplots. The pace slows down a bit in the middle, but the cliffhanger ending makes up for it. There's not as much action in this one, but there is plenty of setup for the next book. I think that it was intriguing that this one focuses on the emotional and mental scars of trauma, not just the physical healing. Looking forward to the next novel!
After narrowly escaping the cruise ship with her life, Aphrodite wakes up to find herself in the middle of enemy territory, the demigods' base camp-- a beautiful, tropical island. Because of the poison the demigods have created, both she and Ares are unable to use their powers and are forced to hide behind a glamor making them look like the demigoddess, Elise, and the demigod, Adonis, both of whom are safely ensconced in the Underworld for their own protection. As thankful as she is to have Ares with her, it doesn't take Aphrodite long to realize that she may be more of a liability to their mission than an asset when her nightmares and panic attacks threaten to expose them both to an island of demigods and demi-goddesses who are armed with weapons capable of killing them. While Ares is just as anxious as everyone else to shut down the demigods' plot to assassinate the Pantheon, right now his main concern is Aphrodite. He's also wracked with guilt over having been the one to almost kill her. To further add to his distraction, he's also falling for the beautiful goddess, quickly and irrevocably. He'd be willing to do anything to keep her safe, even sacrifice himself...and maybe the others! Fortunately, they find allies in the most unexpected places. More goddess than demigoddess, Medea claims to be "what comes next". She's married to the rebel leader, Jason, and she's never had reason to think of him as anything less than her hero. Until now that is. Something is definitely going on and Jason is acting very strange. Medea finds herself wondering more and more if she's able to trust her husband. At the same time, she keeps finding herself becoming closer friends to Elise, the demigoddess who showed up mysteriously on the island, half dead. She senses that there's more than meets the eye about Elise but she can't figure out just what. There's no doubt that war is looming on the horizon, but will Aphrodite be strong enough to survive? Good thing for her, she has the god of war, himself, with her.
Wow! Just WOW! I seriously enjoyed this book ever so much. I really enjoyed learning more about the demigods. They were all incredibly interesting, even the ones I hated and wanted to die, painfully. The demigoddesses were particularly intriguing, particularly Medea. She's definitely the next step in the "breeding program" that Zeus had cooked up. I can understand why so many of the demigods were bitter and resentful of the Pantheon. After all, many of them had turned their backs on what Zeus was up to until they had need of them. That said, Tantalus got exactly what he deserved and I didn't feel one bit sorry for him. This book had the perfect combination of drama, action, intrigue, friendship, and romance. This series really is the perfect modern day retelling of the Greek myths.
I have no idea whatsoever why these books aren’t more popular. Because they are way better than some “good books” I’ve read out there. I swear!
Sure this book could’ve been shorter and it was stretched a bit too much in some places but I still loved it. And the ending.. it was awesome. I did not see that coming! And I usually always guess what happens next. It’s a pain.
I do feel like maybe there’s something missing.. I don’t know. But I would recommend anybody to read these books. I would endorse them personally for no cost if I could. They’re that good.
Okay wait, I figured out one problem with it: I think it’s harder to follow in some places, all the technicalities and the resulting consequences and the resulting consequences from those.. I don’t know. It gets a bit confusing, maybe. Maybe. But still good! I wish the author wrote more and more.
AND I CAN'T WAIT TO READ MORE. AHHH, I'M NOT READY TO END THIS SAGA <\3
Book 2 in the Aphrodite series, or book 5 in the Daughter of Zeus series. Well written, a little more grown up than the first 3 books in the series. A lot of self reflection in this book, which at times can get tedious, but overall an interesting story. Modernizing Greek Mythology in an interesting way.
Why the cliffhangers?!?!? Please at least finish the plot of one book before having a cliffhanger! Other than that, I really enjoyed the book and am looking forward to the next one coming out. Something about Bevis's writing keeps making me want to know what happens next.
aghh woman why you do this to me? if I thought Aphrodite was going to kill me this one just left me all hot and bothered one simply doesn't end it there
Okay, I read this book using Hoopla...it’s a good app, but you miss parts of the book because of the phone’s screen! Ughh. But the book is great, the series is riveting and keeps me entertained.
Sinceramente los capítulos de Medea me aburrían mucho aunque tuvo cosas interesantes en ellos, creo que el libro narrado solo por Afrodita pudo hacer el libro mucho mejor
