Pax Tate used to be a drug-addicted jerk, but you’d never know it now. He’s got a sexy pregnant wife, their own little family, a cozy home, and a successful career.
Everything is perfect.
Until someone from his past shows up.
Pax doesn’t hesitate to bring all the fury of hell with him in order to protect his family.
Right now my disappointment is huge. Really.. HUGE I'll just say I stopped reading at the little girl being kidnapped. This is so cliche and I'm so tired of this being used as plot/conflict device that I just stopped right there, around 50%. And this was planned for the guy who killed his mother and was in prison and he was helped by the house keeper. Beside the fact that the killer was calling the hero (the victim son)from prison and making threats. Is that even possible. Wouldn't the hero at least let anybody know about these calls?? This is so R. I. D. I. C. O. U. L. O. U. S. I was so annoyed that I could care less what happens. And the kidnappers told the hero to go to his beach/lake house and there they will make him using drugs every other hour I guess. Because as far as I read they had a drug of their preference (cocaine, heroine etc) in a piece of paper with the right hours for him to do them. Just no. This is a typical example how an author can destroy a previous couple story with a few bad words and bad ridiculous plot device. Honestly I'm in shock. And I loved the 1st book. REALLY: kidnapping? Prisoner contacting victim and making threats? Making him using drugs? I just can't.. And in the situation I left them in the book. I think only RAMBO, the X MAN, AVENGERS could save them

Pax Tate used to be an effed up asshole, but you’d never know it now. He’s got a sexy wife, their own little family, a cozy home, and a successful career.
Everything is perfect.
Until his past rears its ugly head.
Pax will do anything to protect his family, even if he destroys himself in the process.
I have to admit I absolutely dreaded reading this. If You Stay was a difficult story to read. The drug abuse and subsequent fallout wasn’t the happy we all want. But it made the end so much sweeter. Which is why after everything Pax and Mila have been through, I didn’t really want them to suffer again.
But life doesn’t really give you what you ask for, and Courtney is such a beautiful writer, she knew how to make us sweat for the happy ending, yet again.
This time Pax’s past is back with a vengeance. Quite literally. It turns out some revenges are years in the making, and while Pax and Mila are expecting their second child, right when his grandfather dies, everything falls apart.
You know, they always say a parent will do everything in their power to help their child, and in If You Stay we learn how Pax’s mother saved him, and in My Peace we get to pretty much experience just how far Pax will go for his daughter’s life to be saved.
I’m sure some, if not most, readers didn’t expect some of the plot twists, but I did. For some reason my gut feeling realized and I wasn’t surprised. But just how far things went, I didn’t expect.
Now, I don’t know what it’s like to do drugs, or (thank God) have loved ones in a position of drug abuse. Yet, Cole had me “clutching my pearls” anticipating each and every sentence as I was reading. I loved all the emotions evoked while reading the story, and I both dreaded and couldn’t wait for the next page. That’s when I know a story is as amazing as it can get.
Pax & Mila's story in If You Stay was a rollercoaster of emotions, and this new, continuation of their lives is one just as much.
My Peace is Pax's journey searching for just that... his peace. He has had such a sh!tty life for so long, now he is at a place that he is starting to be happy.
But his past has come back to haunt him, throwing him back in the dark place where his demons rule his mind.
This is a dark, raw, gritty story. As I turned each page, i never knew what I was going to be confronted with. My eyes may have leaked a couple of times as the story wound its way through all the twists and turns.
I wanted, no I needed things to work out for our lovelies.
And knowing more about the author's story with her son, and how it relates to Pax's story just made this story feel all the more real.
Thank you Ms Cole for bringing us more Pax and Mila, and letting your readers a little more into your life.
My Peace is a perfect follow up to If You Stay. And you MUST read If You Stay in order to truly understand this novella.
If You Stay hit close to home for me, so I knew immediately this novella would be the same way. But also knowing now that Pax is based on Courtney's son, it just makes the story all the more real and raw.
My Peace shows that an addicts struggle is never over and lasts a lifetime. And it takes the love of everyone in their lives to help them overcome any new struggles they may face. And even those ugly demons that sometimes try to worm their way back in. This book had me in tears, some ugly cryng at times. For some people it won't hit close to home but it will cause you feel everything.
I love how Courtney interwove a few different story lines into this. But also gave you insight into addiction and how even a small situation can cause any recovering addict to possibly relapse. Courtney tells this story from both Mila and Pax's POV; these two face new struggles each and Courtney really proves how strong their love is.
I can't praise Courtney enough for even writing this story, knowing how difficult it had to be. But I love that she did and there aren't enough "thank you's" to show my gratitude. It gave us readers more of Mila and Pax, something we can never get enough of. But it also gives readers more of an insight to what and addict and their loved ones go through. It doesn't really get any more real, raw or more life like than this.
I have such conflicting feelings over this book. See. This book screws with my HEA. And it screws with it in a big way. Pax and Mila have already been through hell and I hated seeing them go through more hell. They are now happily married with a little girl and my heart hated seeing the three of them put through the wringer again. And it’s hard because I really appreciate the authors reasons for writing this book and I know that real life isn’t always pretty. BUT this is fictional and in my fictional brain Pax and Mila were very happy and I just hate knowing that this happened to them. Also there is something that happens that impacts the little girl that I did not like AT ALL. I think I also need to acknowledge that it’s been years since I read If You Stay and I’m not sure that I would have loved Pax the same if I read the book today. I’m a different Teresa now. I will say though that the story was good and had it not been characters I already knew getting screwed with I probably would have liked it more. And I did love the end and how it all came together. And there was a cute little twist at the end that made me smile. So like I said, I can’t say I hated this book but there is stuff that holds me back from adoring it. So yeah. I’m very torn with my feelings.
It was good to revist Pax and Mila in the final installment of the Beautifully Broken series, it brought things dull circle.
This story was very thin, there wasn't really much to it. I also noticed that Pax lost some of his voice in this novel. He was one of my favourites in this series but it seems his personality amalgamated with Gabe's and instead of reading a story that felt uniquely Pax his character seemed distorted to me.
It didn't exacly end the series on a strong note but it was good to see these characters again.
My Peace is a continuation of Pax and Mila's story from, If You Stay, (the first story in the Beautifully Broken Series,) and must be read in sequential order. Pax and Mila are happily married and have a beautiful daughter, "ZuZu." Everything is going well in their lives. Pax has been clean and hasn't craved drugs in five years, business is booming, the romance and love that they have for one another has only grown exponentially over time, and they have close friends and family that they cherish. Their lives are full and abundant with blessings and happiness.
Then, everything changes... Danger, malevolence, and deceit enter into their lives. Ghosts from the past come calling, and Pax and Mila are tested. Temptations are provoked, and Pax and Mila's little family is put in danger in more ways than one. Will they all survive?
My Peace was a real page-turner. It portrayed the dark reality of addiction masterfully. It was filled with so much emotion, that I felt everything that Pax and Mila experienced. Their pain and tears became my own. There was a huge twist that I didn't see coming, and it made the story that much more engaging. I couldn't put down my Kindle, even if I had needed to! There was also a spiritual element to the story that made me smile, and cry tears of happiness. It was absolutely beautiful.
I could tell that My Peace was a very personal experience for Ms. Cole. The story flowed so seamlessly and effortlessly. It provoked so many raw emotions in me, and was so very "real." The characters were three-dimensional, and felt like they could have walked right out of the pages. This story really resonated and meant a lot to me, and I know that it will touch many other readers as well.
Another element that I loved in the story was getting reacquainted with Maddy, Gabe, and Brand, who were other characters in the Beautifully Broken Series. I adore this series so much, and was in my happy place reading about some of my all-time favorite book characters.
My Rating:
I give, My Peace, by Courtney Cole, 5 Emotionally-Charged, Beautiful, Raw, Dark, Twisted, Exorcising the Past Filled Stars! Fans of Mila and Pax, and the Beautifully Broken Series, need to read, My Peace. It was the perfect ending to their story! Those of you that love raw, realistic stories filled with romance and angst need to dive in to the Beautifully Broken Series. You'll thank me later!!!
4.5 Stars - Courtney Cole reunites readers with Pax and Mila in My Peace, the brilliant follow up to her new adult novel, If You Stay. It’s been years since I first fell in love with this inimitable pair and yet Courtney Cole had me lost inside their world in no time at all. Filled with powerful emotions and gripping heartache, My Peace is a breathtaking look at addiction and the lifelong battle to hold onto happily ever after. This book takes places years after the original novel, but marriage and a child hasn’t dulled Pax and Mila’s electric connection or obvious chemistry any. Their easy friendship, insatiable desire and undeniable reverence for one another poured off the pages, reminding me why I fell so hard for this couple to begin with.
Pax stole my heart all over again in My Peace. There is something so raw and honest about this character that just grabs hold of you and refuses to let go. He is beautifully broken, devastatingly real and his struggle makes him that much more captivating. I absolutely loved how Courtney Cole further unraveled Pax in this novel, diving into his long held feelings about addiction as well as his lingering misconceptions and personal denial. At times the writing was so powerful that I could feel Pax’s conflict, experiencing both his emotional and physical turmoil for myself. Courtney Cole has put so much of her heart and soul into this character that his thoughts and feelings practically bleed from the pages, ensuring that Pax is not only entirely unforgettable but guaranteeing that readers will invest themselves in his happily ever after.
With My Peace, Courtney Cole demonstrated her phenomenal growth as a writer. Heartfelt, gritty and painfully unrestrained, the author’s understanding of the human condition is utterly astounding and the formidable emotions of Pax and Mila’s story seemed to flow effortlessly from Courtney Cole’s pen with an authenticity that is unparalleled. My one issue with the novel was the pacing. There were moments where too much was happening at once - too many issues being brought to light or being resolved at any one time - that the storyline lost some of its clarity. For instance, I never quite understood if Pax’s initial accident was in any way tied to the events later on in the book. However, the overall statement of their story was not lost, and I loved the gripping honesty with which their journey occurred. An absolute must-read, My Peace is a profound and fearlessly reflective story of life, love and the wars we wage to secure them.

~ 5 Love Never Fails Stars ~
Wow….I don’t even really know how to review this book!! It was filled with both love and heartbreak. Knowing what a personal story/character this is to the author….my heart broke for her and Pax many times.
I truly appreciate the fact that she gave us more of Pax and Mila’s story. I know that writing this book is probably pretty difficult for her. I fell in love with Pax in his first book IF YOU STAY. He was a down and out young man you had a horrible childhood experience and then felt rejected by his father, so he turned to drugs. He was on a downward spiral until he met Mila. She was his shining light. I don’t want to tell the whole story of the first book, you really just need to read it if you haven’t. Then come back and reunite with Pax and Mila in My Peace.
This book shows that no matter how “healed” a drug addict thinks he is, it is truly a lifelong struggle. And that it takes the people who love the person to help them along. I loved the storyline she gave Pax and Mila in this book, while still showing her own families struggles through the eyes of Pax (who is based off her son)
My Peace is a novella and a fairly quick read but is filled with so much feeling and emotions that you think it is a full length novel. This story was told in Dual POV, so we get to see both Pax and Mila’s thoughts as the story unfolds. I couldn’t put this book down. There was the element of suspense added in to keep you wanting to turn the page and see how things would turn out. This is NOT a standalone novel. You should definitely read If You Stay first because My Peace is a continuation of Pax and Mila’s story told five years later.
I enjoyed that we got to see other characters from this series. I was nice reconnecting with Gabe, Madison and Brand.
I always hoped that we would eventually get to see more Mila and Pax and where their life had led them and I am so glad the Courtney Cole decided to open her heart and her life again to bring us this story.
Sorry but it totally ruined one of my favorite books with all the clichés and unnecessary drama!! It was like reading a bad soap opera!! I never said that about a book but I wish I could unread it!!
If you follow my reviews, you know that I find that I'm left feeling a little unsatisfied with novellas because they never feel long enough. That wasn't the case with this one though because it's filled with so much emotion that I it felt longer than it was, and boy was I exhausted by the end. This book is grittier, filled with heartbreak and angst, trials and tribulations, and with how Ms. Cole wrote the book, I felt like I was experiencing all the heaviness right alongside the characters.
The heart of this book is found in the realness of the characters, flaws and all. I believe that it read so well because the author really put her whole heart in this one and it shines beautifully through with every single word, words that tugged on my heartstrings. This book may have broken my heart, but it also left me with so much hope. Pax's story is one that I will definitely carry with me forever. There won't be a time that I won't think of him or root for him. I hope this isn't the last I see of him.
*Note: This book was provided to The Book Hookup by the author but that did not in any way influence this review!
3.5 stars-This is a little bit of a follow up with Pax and Mila, originally introduced in "If you Stay" They are living their HEA with their precocious four year old daughter, ZuZu but a nefarious character from Pax's past threatens to take away their HEA. Pax has to fight demons he thought he long since buried and Mila has to be strong enough to pull back to the here and now. Interesting quick read.
4.5 Stars!! My Peace is a novella and, if you know me, you know that I almost always feel like I need more from these short books. But, truthfully, this story it’s so full of angst, heartbreak, and hope that I was left very satisfied…and exhausted. We met Pax in If You Stay, the first book in this series. In that book he battled his demons and his addictions. As we start this new story, Pax is in a different place. His life is good, really good. He’s married to Mila, has a beautiful daughter, and is happy and at peace. But, this is the true crux of life – you never know when things will change. This story examines what happens when the unforeseen dredges up the past and takes you down a road you had no intended of ever traveling again.
Due to an accident, and other circumstances, including a shady character from his past, Pax discovers that an addict is never really cured. And he discovers it the hard way. As his fears become reality, his relationships are tested, and his future outlook becomes bleak. My heart ached for him and for Mila. Their love is put to the test and their family is at risk. This is a gritty story. Pax’s inner thoughts were uncensored and real. I felt like I was experiencing everything along with him and the heaviness in my heart was in part because I know how true to life this is for some.
This book had me on the edge of my seat…it broke my heart…and it gave me hope. So much happens in this short number of pages! These characters, with all their flaws, are believable and real. Once again, the author grabbed a hold of me on page one and held on tight until the very end. And, to me, two things are very obvious. First, Ms. Cole poured her heart into this one…her hopes, fears, and heartbreak are on display here. This story is written with honesty and care. And, second, Pax’s story is one that’s left an imprint on my heart…I will always want to know more about him and I will always root for him. I hope we see him again in the future!!
Pax and Mila are finally settled in their life. They have a wonderful home, a beautiful daughter, and Pax is doing well running the family business. A surprise announcement from Mila about the latest ‘addition’ to the family has the couple floating on cloud nine. Well…..Mila thinks so…..
A simple act of being a good Samaritan lands Pax in a predicament that the couple never saw coming. Add to that the pain accompanied to an injury from the accident, and Pax is spinning on his heals. Mila’s pregnancy is another cause of concern. Pax cannot get all of the stressors out of his mind. Then an ugly reminder of the past rears its head. Causing Pax to slip into some habits that are dangerous when paired with his previous addiction problems.
Nothing could prepare the couple for what would come ‘knocking on their door’. How will things end for Pax and Mila?
When I found out Courtney was releasing another book about Pax….I couldn’t wait to dive in. Nothing could have prepared me for the roller coaster ride that Mila and Pax were about to embark upon. Despite thinking I knew what was getting ready to happen in the story, nothing was as it seemed. A journey into a pain of unimaginable proportions!!
Courtney is always a wonderful writer, and Pax’s tale is an added ‘treat’ to the series!!
I was hooked by this story from the very first page! My Peace had all the elements I want in a love story – heart, passion, humor, emotion and plenty of sexy moments. The chemistry between Pax and Mila was electric and I simply fell in love with these characters as well as the rest of their family. Their relationship is beautiful and was very inspiring. Their journey together was so beautifully written that I felt every emotion the characters experienced -- I laughed, cried so many tears (happy and sad), felt pure joy and every ounce of pain. The story was so relatable and felt so real. This is my first book in this series and I never felt confused or lost at any point; it is a true stand alone. There were twists and turns along the way that kept me on the edge of my seat. I didn’t want this story to end. I do want to read the other books in this series. I voluntarily read a copy of this book and am leaving an honest review. I recommend reading this book.
What a beautiful and heartbreaking story, but true to Ms. Cole's fashion a happy ending is in sight. This story was hard to read knowing the meaning behind it for the author. However, I was transfixed by Pax and his journey. He fought so hard for his life, but things happen. Addiction is such a ugly and painful thing, but there is so much hope and wanting as well. I adored Pax in the first stories and I loved this one the best. It's important to remember the life of an addict doesn't always stay sunshine and roses. It has to be worked for and constantly revisited and worked on. It was a wonderful message, and I loved the story. We are all worth it!
This is the perfect ending to this series. I have loved all of the books I have read from Courtney. This one must have been so hard to write being so personal to her, but it was great. There was some type-o's that she normally doesn't have in her books, but I overlooked them because she is one of my favorite authors. Pax and Mila have a great love story that is real and not fantasy based. There are people out there that really live through this and more who don't make it. Thanks for bringing stories like these that make you feel and believe that "Love Never Fails". Thanks~
Everything is perfect for Pax & Milia but when he starts hiding stuff from her it goes down hill quick. Things are tenses and their lives are changing fast but there are outside threats that want to ruin their lives. There doesn't seem to be a way out of the danger their family is in but thankfully there are people who love them. When everyone is safe Pax is still in for a long fight. Milia will have a fight of her own as well and that's getting through to Pax. Some hot sex scenes. Fantastic ending.
This book follows Mila & Tate, 4-5 years after If You Stay. They are married, with a child and another on the way, and unfortunately their past comes back to tackle the peace they thought they had won.
This book was written very well. I actually enjoyed it more than I did If You Stay! The way the writer wrote about addiction was powerful and eye opening. The road to sobering is a lifetime commitment and the author wrote it in such a honest way.
3.85 Spoilers-- I feel like there were too many unanswered questions. Did they link Natasha to the grandfathers death? I'd have had the investigated. Was Natasha linked to his hit and run? Obviously Natasha began working for the grandfather after befriending Leroy. Who was the mystery therapist that helped Pax. How did Ethan's room smell like honeysuckles? Hope it's not another Leroy supporter. I hated what Pax was put through.

I was quite satisfied with the ending of this series but I was curious to see what this return would be all about. This was a touch more dramatic than I wanted it to be. While I adore the overall aspects Cole extracts from Pax's character, I think we could have accomplished the same without the over the top dramatics.
All the books in this series have been AMAZING!!! I read them all in about a week to a week and a had and even tho I couldn't put them down cause I could t wait to see what would happen next or to see how the next characters are ... I now bummed cause I have read them all and I WANT MORE!!!

My Peace is quite simply an amazing read. Courtney Cole dug deep to give up the follow-up to If You Stay and more of Pax's struggles to stay clean. The circumstances that force Pax to move back to the darkness his life once embraced was almost too hard to read. It was like watching a necessary trainwreck in order for the world to right itself once again. Pax and Mila have built a beautiful life together with their daughter and yet outside greedy forces threaten to destroy what they have so lovingly created.
I was taken aback by the absolute rawness that I felt as I watched as Pax's world starts to slip from his fingers. But as much as I was heartbroken for him and his girls, there was that spark of hope that he would conquer his demons and his enemies since this was forced on him and it wasn't by choice. If you know Pax and his story, you'll want to read this sequel. Knowing what the author has been through with her own son and his struggles makes this book that much more engrossing.
Both If You Stay and My Peace are must reads in my opinion. In the end, there is an abundance of love that will always prove to be a powerful force against any addiction. And with that love there is always hope.
As heartwrenching as it is heartwarming. You can't help but be affected.
