Migration: Beginnings

Rate this book
Rhys and Jason are a newly married couple, enjoying their honeymoon in Hawaii when actions halfway around the globe bring crisis and change worldwide. Beginnings is the story of how Doctor Rhys Tambor and his husband Jason settle back into their lives in Portland, but soon find themselves embroiled in an adventure when evidence comes up that may prove an old legend from Jason’s family has a basis in reality. As soon as they discover what an old metal beam uncovered in an ancient cave in Utah may actually be, it’s a race against time for our heroes to find all pieces of the puzzle while avoiding a worldwide plot to stop them.

Migration: Beginnings had every element a good story should have. An exciting plot, attention to detail, but best of all fleshed out, well-written and well-rounded character development. There’s an abundance of well illustrated scenes that really make you feel like you are right there in the story, and that's something I really look for in a good book.

The world is hurled into chaos when weapons are detonated throughout Europe by unidentified forces. Planet Earth will never be the same again. Migration: Beginnings is an amazing action adventure story where protagonists Dr. Rhys Tambor and his husband Jason are in a race against time to find answers, while trying to evade a global plot to stop them. It’s action and adventure all the way, in this first work of fiction, by author Walter Hopgood.

This would be a highly recommended read from me to all fans of the Action Adventure, Thriller and Gay Fiction genre. This new book has very modern and different heroes. It’s one of those stories that come along once in awhile that makes you want to read it non-stop until you get to the end. I don’t do spoilers so I’m giving nothing further away here. And this, I hope, will only add to the mystery and enjoyment for the reader!

Without a doubt, I’ll be looking forward to reading more from Walter Hopgood in the future, as this looks like the beginning of a very interesting series. Five stars from me.

"If this seat were a man, I'd totally consider dating him."
Great cover art.
This should have been a great thriller, too. With atomic bombs exploding in Europe and coordinated terrorist attacks at airports throughout the east, the search is on for two artifacts - one had already been found - which, combined could solve the world's overpopulation problems. The key to it all seems to lie in a centuries old legend within the family of one half of a newly married couple and the amulet still worn by him. Reece and Jason might be an appealing couple if only the author would accept that the reader had understood that they were not just parteners, but married to their 'husband'. Husband. Husband. Husbannd. Really, it became the key word for the book. Together with some idiotic phrases like, 'followed Jason into slumber', 'dark thoughts tinged with darkness', 'nobody would be forthcoming', 'where the others congregated' (both of them!), and similar. Added to the rapther strange idea that, with atomic bombs exploded, a billion people dead from the initial impact alone, and half the world on the move in search of safe haven, the couple (sorry, married couple, two husbands) don't even mention societal problems - um, yes, some people somewhere might be sufficiently shallow not to notice the slight world disruption, but - oh, I cannot sufficiently express my disappointment with this non thrilling thriller.
Please give this to a decent editor and actually write in some thrills: shou!d be easy enough, the ideas are tucked in there somewhere. Oh, yes, the narrator was goo

My thanks to the rights holder of Migration, Beginnings, who, at my request, freely gifted me with a complimentary copy via Audiobook Boom. Much was expected, little received. But it is an excellent cover..

What a delightful book! Author Walter Hopgood masterfully wove together an engaging tale of action, adventure, science fiction, and romance into this first volume of what promises to be an engaging series. The main characters, Rhys and Jason are endearing and captivating. I'll not offer any spoilers, but their adventures take readers around the world on a treasure hunt of sorts and into the realm of traditional science fiction themes. It is a classic story of good vs. evil with nasty bad guys and head-strong heroes and heroines. Hopgood uses his impressive vocabulary to paint vivid imagery and create lifelike characters. It is a good start to a series, and I look forward to what comes next!

Firstly, I loved that this novel had a LGBT element to it, and this is something that really appealed to me about the novel. I really enjoy reading stories which have a “futuristic” theme to them and the synopsis of this novel sounded really interesting and potentially reflected a future that could become a reality. The story really is full of action and drama and there is a lot of intrigue and mystery as to what will happen next, so the story always keeps you on the edge of your seat. I found the descriptive writing really helped to bring the characters and settings and action alive, and the writing is really good overall. The plot is interesting and keeps you guessing, and anyone who enjoys a thriller, action-packed story will likely enjoy this novel. The ending of the book compels you to want to read Book 2, so I am looking forward to that coming out so I can find out what happens next in the story. If you like the action, thriller, drama genre, but also look for something different like the LGBT element in this story, then I recommend this well-priced novel.
