The battle continues as the unchanged humans continue to fight for their lives against the savage beasts. There is one huge problem, though.... You never know if one of the beasts is disguising themselves as one of the survivors. 'The Reckoning' continues the nonstop visceral carnage and ceaseless man vs. beast battles. There is no place safe to hide as the freezing winter storm has turned their hometown into an inescapable place of imprisonment. The ending was a devastating shocker - and I cannot wait to find out how it plays out in the next -and final - book of the series: 'The Change' (Outage, #5) Narrator Troy Duran brings it yet again.
Outage: The Reckoning is book 4 in the Outage Series by T. W. Piperbrook. Over the course of one night, a Connecticut super storm has served to dump so much snow on the ground that it hides much of the carnage caused by power outages coupled with werewolf attacks. The power outages served to drive the people into the streets, as their home heating systems stopped working and found themselves prey to the packs of werewolves taking advantage of the situation.
Tom Sotheby has survived the first night. Little did he know that there were more nights to survive. The writing has a fast pace. The main character is very likable. The story is unique and fresh. There is a lot to like, despite the fact that some might feel that the premise is a little contrived. Clearly, Piperbrook is familiar with the precarious instability of the electrical systems during Connecticut storms. Couple that with the isolation and the dangers of multiple werewolves and you have the makings of a disastrous predicament.
The night is finally over and Tom is in what seems like a safe place with a whole bunch of other survivors. Until nightfall and the beasts come out again... The horror continues! Tom is trying to keep his fellow survivors alive but with so many beasts and no place safe enough it is not an easy task.
The Reckoning is fast action and suspence from beginning to end.
What a series! I managed to read through all 4 of these books in one weekend! I just couldn't put them down. From the beginning of the snowstorm till the very end I was completely immersed. Great characters, excellent story line, and evil werewolves. What more could a horror aficionado ask for? Please keep great books coming!
Well I sure hope this is not the end of the line for Outage! Another thrilling night as the werewolves continue to eat away at the remaining humans, this time trapped in a hospital. But the ending is begging for more. The first 3 novellas covered the first of three days, this 4th one covers the 2nd day, and surely we need two more to complete the entire 3 nights of terror! Count me in.
The storm is still blowing, people are still dying, and the wolves are still raging.
Tom is the lone survivor of the showdown at the end of book three. He’s lost his wife and seen some hideous things. When he wakes up in the hospital, he thinks it’s all over. He’s made it. But he soon learns the storm isn’t finished and neither are the wolves.
Something this author excels at is group dynamics. He puts a bunch of people together in close confines, threatens them with horrible death, and their reactions ring true. Being a fan of character driven stories, especially in the horror genre, I eat this stuff up. And I often wonder how I’d react. Would I be the brave one, step forward and handle things calmly and wisely?. Would I be the hysterical one, fall to pieces and scream my head off? Or would I be the coward, the one no one can rely on who does something stupid?
I’m glad I’m not one of the characters in this book as the body count’s high and there’s no guarantees for anyone. The wolves are too many to count and almost impossible to kill. Claws slash, teeth gnash and it’s bloody mayhem. Perfect for creature and horror fans. And a great continuation in the series.
I don't like supernatural stories where the werewolf or vampire is just a misunderstood creature. Give me a werewolf or vampire I can sink my teeth into. This series does just that the werewolves in it have no twisted souls hoping for redemption they just want to eat people. This was a fast paced story that just had wanting to read what happened next. The human characters are likeable enough the werewolves not so likeable. I mean come on they eat people. If you like your werewolf stories to be blood and guts then this one is just what the doctor ordered. However I will say read the first three stories before you read this one.
Okay just right from the beginning The Outage Series is action packed, scary and after book one I suggest don't read this story before going to bed, daytime only people. Well done Mr. Piperbrook.
Quick and fun read. Makes me excited to finish the series. I wouldn't mind reading more of these set in the same story but maybe from the others point of view
I feel that I opened the first page blinked and then I’ve finished it. There is just so much happening in the Outage series that I seem to be reading quicker. Every page is full-on and teeth grinding. An excellent read.
When Tom awakes in a hospital, he realizes that his night of terror is finally over. But have all of his friends survived? And why is the moon still so full and the storm is starting up again? Maybe it's not over yet...
I'm glad Mr Piperbrook changed his mind and decided to write this book! It answered many questions, though it did leave more to ponder. Horrifying but written in such a way that I was engrossed from the start. Tom has an amazing ability to survive and I dreaded the ending, fearing that this would be his last night. Perfect, I can't wait to read book 5.
I've just finished the first 4 novels in this series. Kept me reading for hours. I promise you will never look at a snow storm the same way ever again. Can't wait for the fifth book. Great story, awesome characters and the action just keeps on coming. Read this series with the lights on, and you will hope for no snow!!
I can never enjoy a snowstorm again. I shutter to think what these poor people went through and it chills me to the bones thinking about what happens next. If you love horror then the "Outage" series is what you're waiting for. Of course, if you read the box set this comes as no surprise.
I have been cheering for Tom throughout this whole series. I was disappointed with Rosemary and felt that regardless of a mother's love, how could she? It's been a thrilling nonstop rollercoaster ride. I wait to see what happens next in...
This was a great book for the 4th installment of this series. The book moves at a fast pace and you become so involved with the characters that you are left wondering what is going to happen next. Definitely a five star read!
Just when you think the tide was turning in favor of the humans, the Sun goes down and the Moon rises again! Get ready for some shocking facts when someone who was thought dead comes back and tells the survivors some truths.
I can't speak highly enough of this series. Like can it get any scarier or anymore gut wrenching. I have read all four in order and can't wait to read #5.
Really good ...edge of your seat book. Really liked the new characters...and some of the old as well. On to the final chapter of the story( book 5). Happy Reading :)
