Case # 2 of the Karma Incorporated Series.

Karma does have a list…and Cassidy Hail is currently working on it.

Working for Karma Incorporated might sound like the best job in the world, but there’s one really big catch: you’ve got to die to get it. Cassandra Mercier died at the ripe old age of twenty-one and is now gainfully employed by the Afterlife Corporation as a Karma operative. She’s taken on the persona of Cassidy Hail and she’s going undercover to deliver some much needed cosmic payback. Her next target is a Shark.

Phillip Liam Nixon. Millionaire. COO of Butterfield Advertising Group. Chronic gambler, chronic womanizer and part-time embezzler. He’s going down and Cassidy’s the one who’s going to help him on his way. That’s if she can manage her own afterlife in the process, which is now brimming with Gods and Goddesses she didn’t know existed, an overly curious investigator who has his sights set on Cassidy, and the budding suspicion that something isn’t quite normal about the way she died.

Welcome to the Afterlife Corporation, where the currency of choice is souls…

Gillian Zane is an Amazon bestselling author that specializes in dark genre fiction for adults. Gillian defines herself by the city she was raised in, New Orleans. She’s tried moving away a few times but always comes back. At the age of ten, she decided she would be a writer and has been determined ever since. Between that decision and when she actually finished a book that she believed was good enough to publish, she’s served in the military, worked as a bartender, became a cog in the corporate marketing wheel as a person “that makes things pretty” and has since been laid off too many times to count. She currently writes full-time, but still, continues to “make things pretty” by designing book covers and websites for her fellow authors and bloggers. Gillian lives in New Orleans with her husband, her daughter, and a fat cat named Sushi. A prepper at heart, she also recently added chickens to the mix in her efforts to progress toward self-sufficiency.

Shark is the 2nd installment in the Cassidy Hail series. Starting right after the end of the first book Cassidy has her first encounter with one of the rulers who’s in charge of Karma Inc. Unlike her fellow employee’s she can see right through her glamor which makes her different from the others. Cassidy has another case which will send her into a corporate office after a man who’s using the company as his own personal piggy bank to fund his rich lifestyle. Can Cassidy deliver the Karma he deserves? What about solving her own case? Or the dangerous Drake who might be getting closer to finding out her secret?

I like Cassidy she’s been dropped into a world force to work for her life that she lived. Only she doesn’t remember what happened and why her short life was ended so quickly. She’s not a bad person she just may not have been the best person she could. However, she’s determined to figure out what happened. I like the potential connection to Drake the more we see him the more I like him plus he clearly knows she’s more than just a girl. I’m curious to see how this will play out.

I loved Karma Inc the first installment and Shark doesn’t disappoint it’s a whirlwind adventure as Cassidy navigates a corporate office coming into contact with her past which will leave her questioning who is responsible for her murder. I love the concept for Karma Inc it’s a unique concept that captures the heart as well as the imagination. I love the idea that someone who deserves a little Karma for the life they live actually get’s some bad luck. The Karma inc series has become one of my favorite series because it leaves me wondering what if. I’m curious to see how it will play out. I can’t wait to get my hands on the next one.

"Shark" is an great addition to the Karma Inc series. The story begins right where the previous book ends with Drake Greco confronting Cassie. She is shocked to find she cares what Drake actually thinks of her and she wants to know why.

Meanwhile when Cassie returns to her apartment to celebrate the end of her first case, she is shocked when two creatures dressed as men demand a conference with her boss, Brandon. It seems that she is the only one who can see them without their glamour. When she is requested to join the meeting she learns more about the powers that be (PTB) than she ever wants to know.

After a brief hiatus Cassie is assigned her second case. She will be working to bring down the COO of a Financial Services company. He is a vile, womanizing embezzler. However, what Cassie was expecting was running into Lauren, a friend from her previous life. Of course, things are further complicated when Drake shows up.

This installment was much better written than the previous book. Everything flowed better and I found I liked Cassie better. It would have helped if the author had differentiated Cassie's names better rather than Cassandra, Cassidy, and Cassie but it did not interface with my reading enjoyment. The books are short but quite enjoyable and I can't wait to see where future installments take us.

SHARK is the second book in the Karma Inc. novella series and continues on from where the first book⎯CHEAT⎯ended. Only about a third of the story is spent on Cassidy’s current Karma case, while the rest of it is focused on her personal life (and death). She still wants to know about how she died, but she no longer wants Drake to investigate her past life; he sees too much and turns her on too much. But Drake is intrigued, not just with the case but also with Cassidy, so he’s continuing with his investigation. In this novella we saw the appearance of a couple of people from Cassidy’s past life, as well as Persephone, the goddess in charge of Karma Inc. I think things are about to get a whole lot more interesting for Cassidy. SHARK is told only in Cassidy’s POV and ends in a little bit of a cliffhanger that leads us into the next book, LIAR. Each book is connected and can’t be read as stand-alones.

T.W. Contains a sexual assault scene [perpetrated on FMC. She easily recovers from it 🤷‍♀️].

Not as waffley as the first. Still too much for my preference at times, but that could easily be labeled under personal tastes.

Still a very fast read.
Most definitely need to have read the first before this!
A little more action in this episode, greatly appreciated.
Characters are getting more developed, though some parts feel somewhat off, potentially ‘too’ obvious. While others are still a very muddled mystery.

I really wish there was more interaction with the characters Karma duties. She mopes about, too obsessed in her own dramas, to the point of annoyance.
It feels shallow, both in character and world development. It definitely adds to the speed of the book, and not in a good way.
I don’t understand why she holds back so much in this episode? Feels very un-karma like…

Still, very greatfull for the improvement in the writing style, and some of the info dumps.

Just wish the author would include more development and interaction, fleshing things out and adding the depth this deserves [plus more humour, that lessened this time around].
It’s a fantastic concept, and presented in a very entertains fashion, with great dialogue for the most part.
