424 books6,516 followersFern Michaels isn’t a person. I’m not sure she’s an entity either since an entity is something with separate existence. Fern Michaels® is what I DO. Me, Mary Ruth Kuczkir. Growing up in Hastings, Pennsylvania, I was called Ruth. I became Mary when I entered the business world where first names were the order of the day. To this day, family and friends call me Dink, a name my father gave me when I was born because according to him I was ‘a dinky little thing’ weighing in at four and a half pounds. However, I answer to Fern since people are more comfortable with a name they can pronounce.
As they say, the past is prologue. I grew up, got a job, got married, had five kids. When my youngest went off to Kindergarten, my husband told me to get off my ass and get a job. Those were his exact words. I didn’t know how to do anything except be a wife and mother. I was also a voracious reader having cut my teeth on The Bobbsey Twins, Nancy Drew, The Hardy Boys, Cherry Ames and the like. The library was a magical place for me. It still is to this day. Rather than face the outside world with no skills, I decided to write a book. For some reason that didn’t intimidate me. As my husband said at the time, stupid is as stupid does. Guess what, I don’t have that husband any more. Guess what else! I wrote 99 books, most of them New York Times Best Sellers.
Moving right along here . . . Several years ago I left Ballantine Books, parted company with my agent, sold my house in New Jersey that I had lived in all my married life and in 1993 moved to South Carolina. I figured if I was going to go through trauma let it be all at one time. It was a breeze. The kids were all on their own at that point. The dump was a 300 year old plantation house that is listed in the National Registry that I remodeled. Today it is beyond belief as are the gardens and the equally old Angel Oaks that drip Spanish moss. Unfortunately, I could not get my ghost to relocate. This ghost has been documented by previous owners. Mary Margaret as we call her, is “a friendly”. She is also mischievous. It took me two weeks to figure out that she didn’t like my coffee cups. They would slide off the table or counter or else they’d break in the dishwasher. I bought red checkered ones. All are intact as of this writing. She moves pillows from one room to the other and she stops all the clocks in the house at 9:10 in the a.m. at least once a week. When the Azaleas are in bloom, and only then, I find blooms on my night stand. I have this glorious front porch and during the warm months I see my swing moving early in the morning when the air is still and again late in the day. She doesn’t spook the dogs. I always know when she’s around because the five of them line up and look like they’re at a tennis match. As of this writing we’re co-habiting nicely.
Most writers love what they do and I’m no exception. I love it when I get a germ of an idea and get it down on paper. I love breathing life into my characters. I love writing about women who persevere and prevail because that’s what I had to do to get to this point in time. It’s another way of saying it doesn’t matter where you’ve been, what matters is where you’re going and how you get there. The day I finally prevailed was the day I was inducted into the New Jersey Literary Hall of Fame. For me it was an awesome day and there are no words to describe it.
I’ve been telling stories and scribbling for 37 years. I hope I can continue for another 37 years. It wasn’t easy during some of those years. As I said, I had to persevere. My old Polish grandmother said something to me when I was little that I never forgot. She said when God is good to you, you have to give back. For a while I didn’t know how to do that. When I finally figured it out I set up The Fern Michaels® Foundation.

Pretty typical story from Fern Michaels in the Men of the Sisterhood series. Nothing spectacular stands out at I write my review; finally some changes for a couple of the main characters, so we shall see what happens in the next installment (if there is a next installment). Enjoyable read, but not outstanding -- 5 out of 10.

Book 5 in the series.
I read most of the author's Sisterhood books, until they got too far out there. The concept of getting things from the male point of view intrigued me.
Sadly, didn't get through it. This is another too far out there plot for me to enjoy. I can only suspend my disbelief so far! Add to that, a certain political figure was mentioned, and I stopped reading. I don't want real life politics in my fiction, even if it's only briefly mentioned. We get bombarded enough with it as it is.

I found this at Target ...I had a gift card and was curious what to buy. I grabbed this beauty and "The Christmas Room" by: Catherine Anderson ...that's a great read if you are wishing for one. Not like this book ...but a great read all the same. I loved this cover, totally what pulled me into both reads ... I am a sucker for a great cover!! I see this is book #5 ... at times I was confused ... meaning like I was sort of outside looking in ...so I'm curious if I had read books 1-4 ...would I be more in-tune here? Not saying that I didn't enjoy this from start to end... it flowed pretty well considering my bits of feeling like I am missing a bit of understanding of these characters and their past??! Just me? not sure??! At times it did have me laughing. I think I have read something from Fern ... or maybe I am just so familiar with her name? Got go check ... I know I will be reading more from here very very soon. Love her style. Please check her out! ( ;

Fifth in the series but can be read out of order with little difficulty. Usually the men take a background role and I have enjoyed hearing about them.. In this series we have the men taking a front role with their BOLO Agency. The men are pretty much the male counterparts of the Women of the sisterhood.
High Stakes starts out slow, but picks up speed and soon is flowing quickly and readers are hooked to the end. Do not give up, It is worth the wait. With well established characters and an interesting plot. Michaels has seasoned the book with clues for readers to follow. Suspenseful and adventurous read.

I never cease to be amazed at just how much Fern Michaels has milked the Sisterhood series idea—in addition to the Sisterhood, the Godmothers and now the Man of the Sisterhood. In this book, the men go after a Supper Club adult-entertainment franchise, which they suspect is really a front for a major drug trafficking operation. Unfortunately for Toby, a nerdy friend of Dennis from school, who bring this to their attention, the club owners have become wise to his suspicions, creating danger for him. The men of the sisterhood go undercover to infiltrate the operation, bringing out new moves and ideas to catch their prey. Filled with an odd assortment of seemingly unbelievable antics, this book is typical of the series—and of the other two series. The book is an easy read for someone who is just looking to pass the time, definitely not something deep or dramatic. The story is intriguing and flows quickly. The characters are true to form and what a reader can expect and remember from other books. Just not sure how much more the author will be able to keep going in this vein. A good book to kill some time or take to the beach. I received this from NetGalley to read and review.

Investigative reporter Dennis West is approached by an old friend, Toby Mason. He was a braniac turned male dancer. Toby is in a real mess. His employers have him really suspicious and fearful of his life. Dennis brings in his crew of consultants (high ranking government employees) to investigate. You have the suspense and drama of what is going on with the bosses and the mafia. Then you have the hilarious hijinks of the guys going undercover into the male dance clubs for their own investigations.
This is the first book in the Men of the Sisterhood series I have read, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I have to be honest, it started slow. I think when I started I was expecting a thriller or drama. What I got was even better. I cried at one point because I was laughing so hard. I had to keep reading to see what these dudes were going to do next and how all the details would end up. I’m definitely going to go back and read some of this series. Very entertaining and an easy read. Four out of five stars.

Love, Love this series. Highly recommend to those that enjoy: Fast reads, Some romance, crime-suspense, mystery suspense, chic lit n romance n drama, humor, action packed suspense romance, mf. Started reading Fern Michaels in 2018. (As I write this review I'm up to book 26. March 1st 2019. )
Must begin with book and read them in order to understand all of the people that come into the Sisterhood and when the men start coming into it. Love the changes of the Post and how everyone works together around the table. Nothing gets discussed at the dinner table but only in the war room.
Romances develop, marriages happen, punishment/revenge happens to someone who wronged someone else whether it is someone within the Sisterhood or a random person. The sisters all work together to get through the tough times and the happy times. So many twists and turns. Love, Love reading this series. I take time off after I read a couple books and read my other genres and come back to read this series.

This is a book I received as part of a Goodreads giveaway with the understanding I would review it when finished.
High Stakes is the fifth book in The Men of the Sisterhood series and the first Fern Michaels book I have read. The writing and storyline are simple, reminding me of the old seventies PG13 TV mysteries we faithfully watched every week. The plot line is easy to follow with no crude language or gratuitous violence. A pleasant read just not thought provoking, more like a Sunday visit.
Because this is the first novel I’ve read of Ms. Micheals and part of a series, I couldn’t make out how all the characters fit together. From the back of the book I get that these men and one woman are the husbands/significant others of the main characters in the Sisterhood series but nothing more. There are no descriptions or back-story given to these individuals, just hints of personality. The only fully fleshed out character was the antagonist, a woman I found myself rooting for and whose storyline Ms. Micheals concluded, I found, appropriately.

The men of the Sisterhood a super club adult entertainment franchise which they feel is really a front for a major drug trafficking operation. Toby is a nerdy friend of Dennis’s from school that brings this to the men's attention. The club owner knows about Toby’s suspicions and this creates danger for Toby. Dennis is a reporter and went to the men of the Sisterhood and request that they help Toby. Toby is working as a dancer. The men of the Sisterhood go undercover to infiltrate the operation.
I like this story a lot. It was a quick easy read. I would have liked backstory but didn’t realize this was the fifth book from a series. It would have fit together a lot better if I had read the previous book I am sure I think I will probably go back to read them if I can find them. But I still enjoyed this a lot and it made me laugh at times. I loved it when the guys were in dresses. It did drag a little for me at times though. I enjoyed this and I really liked the characters and the ins and outs of this story and i recommend. But read the other books first.
I like this story a lot. It was a quick easy read. I would have liked backstory but didn’t realize this was the fifth book from a series. It would have fit together a lot better if I had read the previous book I am sure I think I will probably go back to read them if I can find them. But I still enjoyed this a lot and it made me laugh at times. I loved it when the guys were in dresses. It did drag a little for me at times though. I enjoyed this and I really liked the characters and the ins and outs of this story and i recommend. But read the other books first.

Book 5 in the Sisterhood series. Fast paced with lots of twists and turns. Recently there has been some public rumble that the earlier books were a little too “graphic and brutal.” Hah! This one has toned down the violence too much. The men always were a little more reserved compared to the Sisterhood, this time we needed a little more suspense. Nonetheless, this is a delightful book. If you are new to the series not to worry – this reads as a stand-alone – I recommend going back quick and catching up! Enjoy! 3.4 ..The Men of the Sisterhood series...I thought this was one of Fern Michaels better books in this series. As a child and then teacher, I always enjoyed the fun and imagination of reading the Mrs. Piggle Wiggle series. At times the Sisterhood books seem the adult version of that concept...far fetched but fun. If you are looking for complex writing and thought provoking books...these books are not for you. But, these are fun reads for a noncommittal state of mind...a good change at times. Poor Toby...headed into trouble and the Men of the Sisterhood have the "magic"cure.

I would have given a 5 star but I am tired of political crap in everything. I expected to fully enjoy another Sisterhood/brotherhood book and instead it is more crap about the current President. She has always named false Presidents and she should have in this book also.
As far as the story is concerned it was another great read and did enjoy it fully just didn't like naming political people It could have been a five star. Keep your political hating to yourself or you may miss your readership, Ms Michaels.

Fern Michaels does it again. The men of the Sisterhood are at work helping a friend of one of their own. They end up in shenanigans that are keeping my funny bone exercised. The Sisterhood books are among my favorites and the men come in second. Love the loyalty among them and especially the dog, Cyrus. These guys are hilarious as they work to bring down the bad guys and increase their funds for future gigs. If you have not read read Fern do so now with High Stakes. Love all her books.

I have always enjoyed the Sisterhood books and couldn’t wait for a new one to come out. When the Men of the Sisterhood came out, I was looking for an even better more complex read but was disappointed. They started off okay, but the stories just don’t hold my attention like the Sisterhood books, in fact I find them confusing – perhaps because I can’t keep my attention of the story. Hopefully we will have more stories on the Sisterhood soon with the men involved

This book is part of the Men of the Sisterhood Series. As far as I am concerned I had to force myself to finish this book. Why? Good question, I don't have an answer. Maybe loyalty. LOL This book is about a problem that may be going on, only the person bringing this to the men's attention is not sure. This books made no sense. It was boring and I am so disappointed. Maybe this is why I stopped reading these books so many years ago. Maybe it is time to put these series to bed...

This is the third book in The Men of the Sisterhood series, a series in which the men who are involved with the women of the Sisterhood take on criminals and find justice for their clients. In this novel, Toby, a friend of Dennis, feels he is in trouble with his employers and asks for help. As they work to help Toby, the men run into various situations with mobsters, etc. Once again, Fern Michaels shows her sense of humor by putting the men in unusual situations with humorous dialogue.

Sorry guys, but I will stick with the gals in the Sisterhood. Although the idea of the male counterparts to the Sisterhood is a clever idea, I was disappointed at how disorganized, individualistic, and self-concerned they were; a far cry from the strength, team-driven missions, and determined women of the Sisterhood. The plot was clever and. of course, looking to right the wrongs in this world provided interest, but it left me flat.

Series keeps getting better
As the series goes on, I have enjoyed it more and more. It honestly would have been outstanding if the recommendation for reading order would have put this series into the Sisterhood series at the appropriate time. It takes a good bit of the experience of the book if you already know the outcome and where it went beyond. This series seems to add details of the Sisterhood series.

This book is a Men of the Sisterhood story. Reporter, Dennis West, brings a request to the men to help his friend, Toby. Toby is working as a dancer and feels the clubs and the contests are being used to front a drug operation. The group votes to help but it is a drawn out affair without a lot of information. The book was a quick easy read.

I gotta hand to Fern when it came to this book . I really got into reading this book . but i really loved the part about where the guys had to dressed as ladies . i would have really laugh if there were pictures of them dressed in ladies dresses . or when Harry had to dance . really loved this book.

Okay I admit it, I am a huge fan of Fern Michaels and the sisterhood. As I read the girls stories it was interesting to see the girls grow and change. Now I am enjoying the men. I like watching them evolve. I loved the shaking, jiggling and dancing part of the story. The story was involved with several story lines. I really enjoyed this book.

Sisterhood Men at Their Best
Fern Michael's didnt let me down. I have enjoyed every one of her Sisterhood books. I was really glad when she started the Sisterhood Men Series. I can't wait till the next book comes out in her series. If you have never read this series you need to start with the first seven books. Once you start you will not be able stop reading them.

Another great story.
I was not really liking the beginning of the book. But because I have loved every other book Ms Michaels I kept reading. I do not remember exactly at what point but all of a sudden I realised that I was unable to put it down. The story took a lot of twist and turns but I loved every second.
I am now anxiously awaiting for the next Men of the Sisterhood.

For this coming out in June, I had to laugh at the political situation in the book vs what has been on the news concerning the current administration... The books politics could have been taken straight off of this weeks news concerning the Washington DC .... just had to laugh about that.
A good book as all in this series has been... I hope that there are many more to come.

Good book, but not as good as the Sisterhood. The guys are rather dull/boring I think. Maybe it’s because you don’t think of females doing the things they’ve done, but their books also seem to be more action packed, on the edge of your seat, and their revenge is fantastic. Personally, I think we need more of them, but I’ll continue reading about the guys until the Sisterhood comes back.

Really enjoyed this - think I might seek out other stories by the same author - loved the idea of the behind the scene operations and of the coming together of the different organisations to solve a crime and that it was not necessarily a "who dun it" murder story but rather a crime syndicate instead, refreshing not to be a murder!

High Stakes is the fifth book in the Men of the Sisterhood series written by one of my favorite authors, Fern Michaels. This is a funny, quick read. It's amazing what the men get into when the women are away. Thanks to NetGalley and Kensington Books/ Zebra Romance for the advance copy.

What a fun story! The Sisterhood always made me laugh and now the Men of the Sisterhood are making me laugh. Even though some serious stuff is going down, the story is exciting and amusing. Loved it. Thanks Fern Michaels.
