Still lost in time, Sekai and Sovieul find themselves in the castle of France's General Gilles de Rais, a dear friend to Joan of Arc, who was burned at the stake before the general could save her. De Rais suddenly becomes obsessed with Sekai--is there a connection between her and the late Joan of Arc? Meanwhile, Machiavello lurks in the shadows, no doubt plotting deceit and devilry--and an escape through time! From the creators of the manga classic that inspired the anime Revolutionary Girl Utena comes a dark and gripping Gothic fantasy.
I was already on the fence about this series, take my review of the first volume as evidence if you like, but not only can I confirm that this series never got finished but this was also such a garbage manga overall. The characters are bland, none of the important stuff gets explained, several scenes of sexual assault are peppered throughout the volumes in order to escalate tension, and with where this volume ends, NOTHING gets answered. We just have more loose threads and plotholes.
And once again, the only good things I have to say about this are the amount of research and detail that went into writing different time periods in France and the different historical figures of the time, and the fact that the art is nice. That aside, this is total trash, and not in an even good or enjoyable way. It's just hot garbage. Chances are high I will be selling the copies of these volumes on Mercari in the future.
I really enjoyed this manga! It’s definitely something only Be-PaPas and Chiho Saitou could create.
It is really fast paced which hurts it, but the story still manages to pull me in and has a lot of potential, plus the art is so beautiful. I enjoy the similar themes to Revolutionary Girl Utena (but I’m bias cause I absolutely love Utena).
I’m disappointed the story wasn’t properly finished. An anime that expands and completes the story would be so good. That’s very unlikely to happen, but it’s not impossible and I have hope.

I’m Actually quite torn about this short lived manga. Ikuni had many things planned for it and Saitou was the best artist to bring his ideas into the pages.
I suppose the audience were expecting another Utena, which was never the case here; and I’m glad he didn’t make it another rendition of Utena.
While a parody of old Gothic fiction with time travel, it did being a unique, alternative flavor to the alternative historic fiction; a much more queer tinged alternative history that is much needed. * let us be honest, queerness is more ancient than the established religions, I blame the white old male academics and their prejudice in the erasure of many queer historic truths recorded or erased by time* Even though I’m saddened about it, I’m glad both Ikuni and Saitou still creating art alone or together.
Their richness of fantasy and craft is unmatched and I hope we get more of it in the future.
As another addition to the series, it was really good. I love how Jeanne d'Arc played a role in this - she's one of my favorite historical figures. The art was also really nice, but I found the yaoi to be unnecessary.
As a conclusion to the series, all I can say is "What the..." because I cannot understand how the mangaka could have left this so... unfinished. What happened to Mido? Did Sekai end up going back to the present? Where did Sekai, Souviel, and S time jump to? So many unanswered questions... sigh.
There's some yowie elements in here and that only makes the book better! The second book has some more mature scenes. Recommended for my more adult friends. Recommendation to Grace!
