I don't like writing negative/ranting reviews. I really don't. I feel even worse about it when it's a Christian book. But since a review is meant to be an overview of my thoughts and opinions on the book along with an accurate rating, I'll do my best.

Along about the 40% mark, I was really, really wanting to give up on this book. I'm glad I persevered, as the best passages were in the latter half of the book, but the book still felt kind of flat to me. I read the whole thing, looked up all the references, and still didn't get much out of it. It wasn't a bad book, I just feel like it could have been so, so much better.

100 Days with Jesus is formatted as a 100 day devotional. Each day has a name for Jesus, a Bible verse where the name is found, and a definition. Following that, there's a paragraph that reads like a prayer...and basically just re-words the verse and definition. At the end of every single page was the same line... "Thank Him, praise Him, and worship Him today as the *insert word of the day*." Yep, that's all well and good. But...that's it? Several times I found myself going "wait, I'm done with that one already?"

Lastly...the grammar. The whole book needed a good edit. If exclamation points are your thing, that's great. I use them plenty myself. But when five out of six sentences end with "!!!"? It gets old really fast. Especially when there's multiple exclamation points in one spot...

Like I said, it wasn't a bad book and it's not my intention to bash the book or the author in any way. I just expected more from as large a publisher as B&H. More depth, more encouragement, more evidence to show me that this is someone I should be taking Biblical counsel from.

I'm sure many readers will enjoy the book—and I'm sure there are those who will get more from it than I did. It just wasn't a good fit with me.

A dear friend gave me this book and I have been using it as part of my daily devotions. Each day one of the names for Jesus, used in Scripture, that highlights who our Lord really is - I AM, the Way, Teacher, Wonderful Counselor, Author and Perfecter of our faith, Christ and many more. 100 names to focus on one each day and thank Him for who He is! Highly recommend!

100 Days with Jesus: A Daily Glimpse into the Person of Christ written by Diann Cotton is a small, hard back book.  The cover is beautiful with a navy background and the title is in gold embossing along with the artwork on the front.  Very visually pleasing in my opinion.  The inside contains breath-taking pictures from nature.  The whole premise of the book is to highlight the different names of Jesus, 100 of them in fact.  For each day, there is a picture that coincides with the name of Christ and on the adjoining page, the name of Christ, a scripture reference to that name, definition of the name, and a short prayer.

I used this for a few days in conjunction with my quiet time, starting on day 1 and had hopes to go 100 days, but to be honest, I had a hard time getting into it.  It was almost as if, inside each day was too much repetition of trying to drive home one of the names of Jesus.

I wouldn't say that this book is all bad and I may even try to give it another chance.  I do think this book would be best used as a daily devotional resource, taking each name, one day at a time and really focusing on that name throughout your entire day.

This book is a good tool for use as you cultivate your private world of communion with God. The author divides one hundred names of Jesus into brief, daily devotionals. I like that each day features a different image, usually of nature. The image sets a contemplative mood.

Each devotion features a verse with the name or title of Jesus in all caps for emphasis. Then a definition of the word is provided. The bulk of the devotion is a prayer with the name as a theme. The author gives a reflection question at the end.

This book is simple and straightforward. The prayers set a tone of worship and awe, and they can serve as springboards for your personal prayer time.

The only complaint I have is the excess of exclamation points, often more than one in a row. To me, they feel too casual for a book of devotions. However, some may feel that they add extra excitement.

If you are looking to grow in your understanding of who Jesus is, 100 Days with Jesus will help you study the many names He has, and the many ways He ministers to you.

My gratitude goes out to B & H Publishing Group, who provided me an advance copy of this book for review.

I love this book. The cover is both sturdy and beautiful. The photography inside is inspiring.

But it’s the contents inside that are the true treasure. The format is simple: Each day highlights a name of Jesus, and uses scripture to introduce the name. There’s an explanation of the name; a well-written short prayer that reflects what we learn from the name; and a question for thought at the end. Each short devotional gives plenty to reflect on as you go about a busy day. It does not take the place of regular Bible study, but would be a great resource with which to begin or end your day.

I am definitely going to purchase this book as a gift.

When I saw this book, I couldn’t help but pick it up and look at the beautiful pages within. I’m drawn to books that go through the names of Jesus because I always have to praise God for who He is in order to put my focus back where it should be, whether it’s good times or bad. I knew I had to read this book and see where it stood biblically. I compare everything to God’s Word to be sure that it is a book that I can recommend to others that draws people closer to God.

First of all, the pictures in this book are simply gorgeous. That was a pleasant surprise to me because I was not expecting to see pictures in this beautiful book. The cover is hardback and beautifully done, as well. My absolute favorite thing is the type of paper that the book is printed on. It’s not the cheap stuff! It’s beautiful and slick and makes the words and pictures on the pages pop.

The devotions are broken down into one page a day for 100 days. At the top of the page is verse of the attribute of God, followed by the definition of the attribute. The devotional ends with a prayer of praise to Jesus for that attribute, as well as a question to meditate on.

Now onto the content itself….the entire devotional points to Jesus. It is definitely a devotional that I would recommend. After going through them, I know my heart has been redirected towards Jesus. For me, I like to keep it by my bed and pick it up first thing in the morning. It helps me set my heart before I ever put my feet on the floor. What a beautiful thing to wake up each morning to praise God for who He is!

If you wanted to give this book as a gift, there is a page in the very front that has a dedication page.

If you would like to get a devotional, this would be the one. This book titled, "100 Days With Jesus" by Diann Cotton, is a great way to get closer to Jesus. Each day you will find a new name for Jesus along with the scripture verse to back it up. There are some great illustrations for each page to go along with the devotional. If you journal in your Bible like I do, you would love this book because the illustrations give great inspiration for journaling in your Bible. Please note: I have received a complimentary copy of this book from Lifeway/B & H Publishing in exchange for my honest review.
